Unexpected Guests At Dawn

The last person Miriam expected to see in front of her door at the break of dawn was her half brother and his squire. They both seemed tired, possibly deprived of sleep, and she wasted no time in letting them in, and serving them a warm meal.

She didn't ask questions, not until Lucian and his squire were done eating. This visit was weird, especially because Lucian hadn't shown up with their father, or at least four guards trailing behind him. She didn't get visits from her family very often, and while she liked it that way, she didn't exactly forbid them from visiting her.

"What happened? Why are you out here without any security? And why do you look like someone who just ran away from home?" Miriam inquired as she slowly scanned her brother's body for any injuries.
