CH 50: Authority

Jason listened to her words and had even learned a few things that he did not know. But he had to eventually interrupt her because he needed her help.

"Q. I need your help. As you have sensed, I have become a Demi-Servant. One of my Divine Constructs gives me access to a few authorities and I need your help understanding how they work and how to use them."

Quetzalcoatl placed her hand on her chin and nodded like a teacher who had just been asked an excellent question by her students.

"Authority... is difficult to answer easily. (First part is fate wiki's explanation while the second will be my take on Authority.)

Gods have Authority over the world, allowing for world construction, event shifting, time-flow manipulation, kingdom-building, and other such powers of that level. Authorities are special abilities that fall into a different category than Codecasts, Skills, and Noble Phantasms. While normal skills 'accomplish a certain task by following a corresponding principle', Authority works 'simply by making things happen because one has that right.'

This is the explanation most magi, Servants, and demi-gods know to be true since this happened after the Age Of Gods but it is not the full explanation.

Authority can be divided into 3 levels.

The 1st and lowest level is the most common and goes by many different names. Dao, wills, domains, concepts, elements. This is what most gods are known for controlling. This is the most basic thing that a god will be in command of or have authority over and can control.

The general rule is 'the more powerful the god, the more Authorities they have. The more Authorities one has, the more powerful their Authorities are'. Take me for example. I am a chief goddess and have authority over at least 10 different concepts and several different animals or creatures.

This is also what your sword is limited to. It only can control Authorities of the first level that have been imbued with it due to it being in contact with such powerful beings for so long.

The 2nd level of Authority involves domains, territories, or kingdoms. This is not just like Poseidon being lord of the ocean but instead more like Zeus ruling over Olympus but that still is not the perfect explanation.

A domain is an area where that god has absolute command and authority. They will no longer be limited to what the first level of their Authority can control within that domain but they can control almost everything. They are also able to create their own species at this rank as well.

Any god with this level of Authority can become a Chief God of their pantheon if they so choose.

The final and 3rd level of Authority is Control. There is no other name for it because there is no other name that there can be for it. Gods with Authority of this level can control the universe and manipulate as they please. The only thing that stops them from doing so is other gods and their own mood.

As far as I can remember, there were only 4 gods who had this level of control. They were Vishnu, Ra, Amaterasu, and Tiamat. Even at my most powerful, I only had level 2 Authority, not to mention now in this weakened body."

Jason was surprised to hear all of that information. He never expected that even gods had such large differences between them. He figured that any god who controlled water controlled in on the same level as another but it seemed that he was mistaken.

He also learned that it was not that gods found these magical domains where they could rule but they had instead created their own.

Quetzalcoatl snapped her fingers to gain Jason's attention again. She was not done and had actually not even begun yet. She opened her palm and a fireball the size of her head appeared floating above her hand.

"That was just a little lesson. Now we will talk about what you need to know to master your sword.

What I have above my hand is not a small sun. These are just two parts of my authority to manipulate the sun which is fire and light. Most people think the sun is simply these two things when it is so much more.

Let me warn you, any god who controls the sun is one of the most dangerous. This is why 2 of the 4 beings with level 3 Authority are sun deities. The 3 most dangerous authorities in the universe are space-time, life-death, and solar."

The fireball disappeared above her fingers disappeared only to be replaced by another one the size of a fingernail. This one was much different than the previous one.

The heat it gave off was immense. All of the ice around them had evaporated for at least 10 meters while the next 900 meters had the ice melting at various degrees. Jason felt his entire body was burning.

Jason could not even breathe and it felt all the oxygen disappear. His blood and other liquids inside his body were literally boiling.

Then there was the pressure. Jason fell to his knees before the 'fireball' in front of his eyes and he could not stand. It felt as if the weight of the world was pressing down on him.

But even with all the pain, Jason was experiencing Jason was not dying. For every drop of blood that had evaporated, another one came back. For every bone that broke, it was immediately healed.

He felt himself constantly being healed just as much as he was dying leaving him on the edge between life and death. He understood exactly what Quetzalcoatl was teaching him. And her next words confirmed it.

"Do not forget just how dangerous the sun really is just because you see it every day."
