As the students panicked, trembling with fear, they could still hear the echo of the Tarakians growl reverberating in their ears. Nova didn't know how to react, the Tarakian who attacked looked exactly the way it seemed on TV but he felt something was off. As the class stood frozen in terror, one student suddenly sprang into action. With a release of her energy, Ellie rushed forward and swung her fists to the Tarakian, hitting it on the shoulder. When Ellie's hand hit the Tarakian, the Tarakians eyes began to change to red, the students lost the ability and will to move their body including Ellie.
Just as the students began to fear the worst, the form of the Tarakian began to shimmer and fade away, revealing the figure of the young man who walked into the class earlier. Their teacher had been using his ability to create illusions so as to test the students ability to deal with problems doing serious situations.
The students stood in stunned silence for a moment, processing the sudden shift in reality. " I thought we were going to die", one student said, his voice shaking. "I was so scared. I thought that thing was going to kill us all". " I knew it wasn't really a Tarakian another student chimed in. " It just felt off somehow. The whole thing felt strange". Don't start lying now, George", a third student said with a laugh. "I saw you wet your pants!" George's face turned red, but he couldn't deny the truth. The rest of the students burst out laughing, a welcome relief from the tension of the last few minutes. Even the young man had a small smile on his face. "Alright, alright",he said, holding up his hands."My name is Corporal Henry am going to be the one in charge of your combat training and other issues relating to it" Corporal Henry spoke in a calm voice. He continued " as some of you may have guessed what happened just now was the last assessment, you can check your wristwatches there you will see your new and updated rank".
The students checked their wristwatches and saw that their rankings had really been updated, some showed happy faces, while others showed sadness. Nova had originally ranked last, and when he checked his new rankings he was shocked. He ranked 57th! He couldn't understand why, as all he had done was stand there and observe the situation. He didn't do anything special like Ellie. "This is your current rankings", the voice of Corporal Henry announced. " The last assessment which was just done was worth 90% of your total score, so there have been some significant changes in the rankings. You can improve your rankings by challenging and defeating other students whose ranks are higher than yours and having good grades can increase your rankings. The rankings don't only test your physical abilities but also your mental abilities, the rankings are updated weekly, so don't get comfortable where you are now ", corporal Henry continued, " it's not impossible for someone ranked first to drop to last, so I advice you to work hard harder than everyone else. You are also going to be assigned dorms shortly after this, That's all for now, dismissed!" With that, the screens went blank and the students filed out of the room going through a portal were they would be assigned their dorms. Nova's mind was still reeling from his new rankings. He had no idea what he had done to earn it, but he was determined to figure it out. He would find a way to improve his rankings, no matter what it took.
As the students passed through the teleporter, they entered a new environment with a stage at the front. A woman who was familiar to all the students was there. It was Miss Smith. " I think she was the first person I met", one student said. " Wait, she was the first person I met too,"another student said. Does this mean she has the ability to duplicate herself?a third student wondered, " that's pretty sick," a fourth student commented. As the students continued chattering, Miss Smith explained how the dorm system of the school worked. There were four people to a room, and the room arrangements were done according to the rank 1-100, 101-200, and so on from rank 500, eight people had to share a room if they are less than eight students remaining they are to join the 2 worst dorms. The better the rank, the better and bigger the room, and vice versa. The students actually expected this. The rankings had to mean something, they all thought. After Miss Smith explained everything, she asked if there were any questions regarding what she just explained. The students were eager to learn more about their new home, and their hands shot up as they asked questions.
"Will the room arrangements change every week depending on our rankings?" One student asked.
Yes, your room arrangements will be updated weekly to reflect your current rankings," Miss Smith replied.
" What happens if someone in your room gets a higher rank than us?"another student asked.
"In that case, the person with the higher rank will be moved to a different room, and the room arrangements will be updated accordingly," Miss Smith explained. " It's important to remember that your ranking is not just about where your dorm room is, but also about the resources and opportunities that are available to you.
For example, higher ranked students have access to better labs, libraries and other facilities. So even if you are not at the top of the rankings, it's still important to work hard and try to improve your rankings."
"Are boys are girls staying in the same dorm" another student asked.
"No they are going to be in seperate dorms for reasons am sure you all know", Miss Smith explained.
After a few more questions, Miss Smith wrapped up the orientation. " Alright, I think that covers everything you need to know for now. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask your mentor or any of the other staff members.
A new message appeared on the students wristwatches, showing their dorm room numbers. The students were instructed to go to their assigned dorms. As Nova walked through the hallway leading to his dorms, he reflected on how the day had gone. He was quite pleased with himself, but he also knew that he had been lucky. He had to work harder if he wanted to maintain his rankings and increase it too. But for now, he was looking for a nice and refreshing good night's sleep.
