E.M.T, Police Academy (1)

Alex Hunter stood at a significant crossroads in his life. At the age of 20, he had already achieved more than most people his age. He had just earned his second degree, this time in criminal justice, and was eager to start his journey as a police officer. It was May 2004, and Alex had recently submitted his application for enrolment in the police academy. The new session was set to begin in July, giving him 7 weeks of free time.

As he considered how best to use these weeks productively, Alex decided to seek advice from his uncle Rick Hunter, the Chief of the LAPD.

When he arrived at the academy, he parked his car and took a deep breath. This was it. He stepped out and looked around, taking in the sight of the sprawling campus. Other recruits were arriving, some with the same eager expressions, others looking more apprehensive.

Alex confidently joined the line of new recruits waiting to check in. There were 60 of them, all eager to start their training.

Lucy also shook my hand. "My name is Lucy Chen. Nice to meet you."

Alex wanted to know more about them but after arriving at the destination and taking a look at the instructor, he shut up.

The first day of training was intense. They started with physical conditioning, running laps around the track, doing push-ups, sit-ups, and other exercises designed to test their endurance and strength. Alex pushed himself to the limit, feeling the burn in his muscles but refusing to give up.

Alex's previous physical training showed its results as he was the one with the best results on the session. He received surprising glances from the instructors and other trainees.

After the physical training, they moved on to classroom sessions. They covered topics like criminal law, ethics, and police procedures. The instructors were tough but fair, emphasizing the importance of discipline and integrity.

During breaks, Alex, John, and Lucy continued to get to know each other. They inquired about their reasons for joining the police department.

John started first. "I used to run a construction company back in Pennsylvania but my company went bankrupt. After I helped take down a robbery suspect at a bank in my hometown, I realized I wanted to do something more meaningful. So here I am, a 40 year old man, the oldest trainee in LAPD history. My son thought I was crazy for joining the academy at my age, but I knew it was the right choice."

Alex admired John's determination. "That's impressive. It's never too late to follow your dreams."

"And you, Lucy? What made you decide to join the academy?" Alex asked.

Lucy sighed, her expression softening a bit. "My parents are therapists, and they've always been very controlling. Joining the academy was my way of rebelling against their expectations. I wanted to do something that was completely my own, something they wouldn't approve of."

"Sounds like you've got a lot of determination. I'm sure you'll do great here." Alex motivated her.

Alex smiled and said. "I've wanted to be a police officer for as long as I can remember. My family is in law enforcement, so it's kind of in my blood."

As the day continued, they participated in various drills and scenarios, practicing everything from traffic stops to handling domestic disputes.

By the end of the day, Alex was exhausted but exhilarated.

Before leaving, Alex, John, and Lucy exchanged contact information. They agreed to study and train together.

As Alex drove home, he reflected on the day's events. Meeting John and Lucy had been a highlight, and he felt a renewed sense of purpose. The academy was just the beginning, and he was determined to make the most of it.
