Chapter 107: The Melee Begins

"Starmie, continue the Water Cannon cover!"

Durant is a Bug + Steel-type Pokémon, with a 4x weakness to Fire. It seems that it would be better for Ponyta to attack, but the power of Ponyta's flames isn't as strong as the Water Cannon, and the range is smaller too. So, in reality, the effect isn't much better than Water Cannon.

The Durant were so fast that Yang Yan felt the rocks above his head and feet shattering at an accelerating rate as he retreated!

With several loud "booms," the small hole was completely blown apart, and scattered rocks filled it in.

But Yang Yan and the others could still hear the sound of "clack, clack" coming from below. It was obvious that the Durant hadn't given up!

Yang Yan didn't know how many Durant there were or if any could rival Starmie. Just in case, he immediately prepared to move the Pokémon away.

After running a bit more, Yang Yan heard a huge explosion behind him. He knew the Durant were catching up!

The Durant were fast, and if they were determined to pursue, Yang Yan couldn't guarantee they'd outrun them.

"Stop, everyone prepare to attack!"

Only about 30 Durant had broken out of the ground, crawling toward Yang Yan and his group.

It was clear the Durant wouldn't let Yang Yan's group escape. They were determined to capture them all.

"Take them down! Starmie, Water Cannon! Everyone else, use long-range attacks—Butterfree, meditite, Ponyta, Treecko, and nincada! Eliminate these Durant!"

Yang Yan was fortunate. Due to their previous experience at the lake, Treecko, nincada, and meditite all knew long-range skills. If they had only close-range moves, they'd likely be overwhelmed by the Durant swarm!

Meditite, however, lacked long-range skills, and Yang Yan didn't allow it to engage in close combat. It could only clench its fists in panic, unable to help.

At that moment, it realized more deeply why Alakazam had never allowed it to participate in trials.

"Meditite, later the Durant will dig holes and attack us. Pay attention to the ground and stop their ambushes. The others will handle those on the surface. I'm relying on you for the ones underground!"

Yang Yan looked seriously at Meditite. Before their defense line was breached, their lives would only be threatened by Durant's underground attacks. And since he had to focus on commanding the Pokémon to handle the Durant on the surface, he had no choice but to leave this task to Meditite.

Meditite stared at the ground, feeling the vibrations from below. Though its Psychic powers were weak, it had enough natural talent in Psychic-type abilities to sense the movement underground better than most other Pokémon.

After focusing, it sensed several disturbances coming from below, moving closer. The nearest one was almost at Yang Yan's feet!

Meditite quickly stepped forward and prepared in front of the Durant's burrowing path. When the Durant reached its feet, it used Rock Smash to hit the ground hard, creating a large hole and knocking out the Durant below in one blow.

Yang Yan smiled and praised, "Well done, Meditite!"

"That!"

Meditite was overjoyed, realizing that it was no longer the one left behind. It had found its responsibility. At this moment, it felt that all its previous training had finally paid off!

Just as Meditite finished dealing with that Durant, the swarm behind had completely broken through the rock blockage, pouring out and starting to surround Yang Yan's group in a fan formation!

Luckily, Yang Yan didn't see any strong Durant here. The few intermediate-level ones were still behind, commanding the others and not yet ready to join the fight. They knew attacking too early wouldn't ensure a full capture.

"Starmie, Surf! Push them all back!"
