The World's Shift

I, the suspiciously previously unnamed protagonist, have woken up to my normal everyday life after a strange 'dream' I had when everything is so different, even me. But even when the world and even people have changed, I kinda gotta keep on living, which is confusing when no one notices ANYTHING WRONG with the world.

Back to School

William and I end up making it back to school at around the same time. Of course, the class knew why I was out, but William on the other hand was an unknown, other than the fact that he was sick.

He ended up just telling them that he got some experimental treatment, and could be at school now that he wasn't feeling as weak. Despite that, some other things seem to have changed. There seems to be a group of people following me around.

They totally think that I haven't seen them, but the whole, "Floating Elf Princess Fan Group" in bold letters on their shirts makes it kind of obvious. I've decided to ignore them for now, because I feel like talking to them would make the situation worse.

Like seriously, I checked the school web page, and their group is an official school club, like how did that happen, and what teacher let it happen? Are the teachers in on it too!?!

Although it is weird seeing everyone stare at me in the hallway since I use Gravity magic while I can make myself invisible, as seen before with the whole reporter incident, it also prevents me from seeing and hearing for the most part, so I have to be careful with it. Obviously couldn't navigate the hallways like that.

Today is a weird day at school though because the teachers want to go over what they are calling, Career Planning Day. Stupid school events. Can't they just let us learn in peace, but guess the school's higher-ups want to feel like they are doing something.

Anyway, Career Planning Day is a day where teachers meet with you and your parents and talk about your future, simple stuff, however, they thought it was a good idea to make the whole day about it. I have to fill out this stupid form about my top three choices of college, or careers after high school. Basic stuff.

I just fill in the top three Magic Study schools and leave it at that. If one good thing came out of the Shift, it was magic, and I'm going to pursue it.

My parents came with me to school to talk about this annoying stuff, and we are currently waiting to talk with the teachers. Now, you might be wondering about my dad, and don't worry I'm not an anime protagonist, he exists. He's just normally gone for work by the time I wake up for school. He just looks like an older version of me before the shift, but with blond hair and elf ears.

He's got blue eyes, and he's around 6'1 or 186cm for sane people with a good measuring system. He's got a slight beard, and looks pretty average, just like most of my family. Because that's just what we are, or were, before the Shift. Of course, things are a little different now that I'm a one-in-hundred-thousand genius in Gravity magic.

Basically, all that happens is my parents and the teachers going over my future, with me in the corner awkwardly adding to the conversation every once in a while.

My parents obviously support my decision to go into magic research because, let's just be honest here, it's very profitable. It is taxing work so the demand is high, but with Gravity magic, it's no problem for me. I want to do it because it interests me, but the money can't hurt.

So you might be wondering what William wants to do, well, I asked him and he said he either wanted to go into Magic Studies for Time magic or become a doctor. He loves Time magic, but he says he wants to be able to help others beat their sicknesses they are struggling with, as he did. He did get into Time magic to help cure his magic poisoning. Good thing that wasn't needed.

However, I will keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn't resort to that solution in the future, just in case something happens.

Although William doesn't have an innate talent, he is super skilled at Time magic, I guess that just shows you how far determination gets you. I was looking over and it seemed as if he was slowing down time around him, so time on the outside would move faster in comparison. True skills there.

How did I notice you ask? Well, I would like to say something cool about magic flow, or seeing the technique, but nope, I saw a fly pass through where the spell starts and it slowed down to the point I could notice it. Lame answer I know, but that's reality.

By the way, his interview with his teacher and parents is literally right next to mine.

"-at do you think Jess?"

"Hm?" I didn't quite catch what they were saying.

"We were talking about how you are planning to take a test to get into the highest magical school, Spectrum University."

"Oh yeah..." Spectrum University got its name from the fact that it not only teaches many different types of magic, like a "spectrum" of different magics, I know, creative, but is at the top of its field in that regard. It's pretty much the best school for almost any type of magic, including Gravity magic.

However, its acceptance rate is unbelievably low for obvious reasons, I believe it's like 5%, which can only hold up because of the number of people that apply globally each year. Normally only rich schools go to that school because getting a scholarship is so difficult and connections are important, however, if you have a talent in magic, they will occasionally scout you to come to their school, so I'm crossing my fingers.

If I want to become a specialist in Gravity magic, that school is a great first step. Most revolutionary magicians come from that school. Even the one who created the taboo Mind magic graduated from there. Just goes to show how deep the history of that school is.

Now then, back to the problem at hand, luckily the conversation between my parents and the teacher is finally wrapping up. Took a while. Seems like a person from Spectrum University is coming here to scout people soon. It will be an event across multiple schools, so I'm interested to see how this goes. I might finally get my chance.
