A Fateful Encounter

Throughout the week, Rolf had gone through intensive and strict training under William's watch and was competent enough to be deemed worthy as "butler". Although stuttering under William's watchful gaze, he memorized the servants' proper mannerisms and behaviors, and did splendidly as a 3 year old butler.

It was the last night of Rolf's first week of training. Exhausted and beat, Rolf did his usual nightly preparations of opening the door and window. For some unexplainable reason he just felt more comfortable and refreshed each morning he awoke, although he was confused by how the door and window was always opened all the way, he just thought that it was the wind during the night, or perhaps, an curious animal checking out his room before getting scared off by the fire.

Ready to lay down onto his bed, Rolf began putting his head down to sleep, until he heard a strange creaking sound coming through the door. Hesitating, Rolf decided to listen for a couple seconds just in case he was hearing things. Only silence ensued, deciding to close his eyes, he then heard a low whine coming from the door!

Quickly getting up and turning around, Rolf was aghast, lying near the door, was a bloodied animal!! Running over towards the animal he saw that it seemed to have been wounded, although it didn't seem serious, it clearly lost a lot of blood and may be knocking on death's door soon.

Carefully picking it up, Rolf noticed it was some sort of dog. He's seen dogs a couple times with the knights to understand what they looked like, although what he didn't notice was its fangs and pointed snout. What was more surprising is that the small "dog", from its face, was directly half black and half white. (I'll include a reference image for a better perspective)

Quietly opening his door, Rolf began moving towards a secluded bathroom where he could wash the "dog" and put some sort of bandages on it. Luckily, most servants were out cold due to their heavy workloads.

After washing the dog, Rolf did his best to dress its wounds, luckily the "dog" was quite weak and tired meaning it couldn't struggle nor hinder Rolf's treatment. Cleaning up the mess he made in the bathroom, Rolf slowly made his way through the corridor and back into his room.

Adding more wood into the fireplace, Rolf decided to bring the dog into his bed to sleep after seeing it constantly shiver, where he placed it on the floor. Only until laying down with the "dog" in his arms did he realize just how soft and comfortable its fur was, causing Rolf to promptly fall asleep.

Hours later during the night where Rolf's body would devour the gray shroud of smoke, something even stranger began to happen. After being absorbed into Rolf's body, some came back out and went inside the "dog's" body!

The next morning, Rolf awoke to feeling something on his chest, slowly opening his eyes, he was greeted by another set of eyes, only, there were different colors - one was an enchanting silver, and the other was a dark, golden yellow. After picking her up without resistance, Rolf felt that it weighed more and held it up to see if it might've grown.

Picking her up he figured out that she indeed looked and felt bigger… and another thing he found out by looking at the "dog" was that it was female. After checking her wounds and petting her, he was surprised to see them gone and that she recovered during the night. In response to the gentle touch she started licking Rolf all over, not only did she feel elated, but she felt an inexplicable feeling telling her to be with Rolf.

'Should I give her a name? I mean, if I keep her, then I would have to call her something right?' Rolf thought. Before deciding what to do he got up and walked towards his table where his untouched food was sitting and brought it to the "dog". Feeding her large piece of meat and sharing the rest of his water with her, he decided to think up a name. Unfortunately for Rolf, after quickly eating, the "dog" licked him one last time before leaving through the bottom of the door.

Stunned, Rolf didn't know what happened until a loud knock on his door woke him up out of his torpor.

"Up and at 'em youngin, the Headbutler is calling for you" one of the maidservants hollered.

Gritting his teeth in hesitation, Rolf decided to close his door and window and prepare for the day, 'Perhaps she will come back tonight' with that thought, a smile threatened to appear on Rolf's face, however, he decided to get through the day before thinking about it once again.
