Chapter 5: The strange dream

"Who are you?" I said to the mysterious eagle that was flying towards me. I woke up with a shocking expression on my face, suddenly having a painful headache. "My head hurts! What happened yesterday? And where is my sister? I really need to speak to her" I spoke with a sudden realization that I was in my tent. Just as I stepped outside, Luka and Jacob jumped at me, asking me endless questions. I gave Luna a glance telling her that we need to talk later. She got the message and nodded.

"Why did you go into the forest?" Jacob grabbed my hand, making me face him. "Someone came to tell me that Luna went in the forest," I answered. "Who was it?" Jacob asked in a serious tone. "I don't know, she was wearing a black hoodie," I said. "Did you see her face?" Asked Luka. "No" I could tell it was a girl though but I was too confused so I told them the whole thing. But I did not mention about the bird I saw before I fainted. Now that I think about it; how can an eagle be here at night? Ok now I'm really confused.

After that, we told the principal everything. Well! almost everything. He finally decided to cancel the trip. We were both relieved. Now we no longer had to worry about that transformation stuff anymore. We all got back inside the bus. I could tell that almost all of my classmates were disappointed because of me. "Finally this journey has ended! I'm so happy!" Luna grinned.

"Same as you! How 'bout you boys? I'm sure you had a lot of fun than us," I smirked at the boys who were looking pretty tired. "Well No! Because we literally spent the whole night searching for a certain someone who ran into the wild without anyone knowing. What are you a superhero who has night vision? Do you think you can find someone in the dark?" Jacob yelled at me.

"As if I knew the hoodie girl was lying! Who do you think am I? A lie detector!!" I yelled back at him and was feeling quite proud of myself. "Well! It was pretty obvious that the girl was lying!!" He glared at me. "Well I'm sorry that I couldn't see she was lying!" I frowned, turning my face to the other side. "Here they go again!!" Luka and Luna looked at us and we all started giggling.

By the time I reached home, the sun was already setting. On the other hand, I was feeling too light-headed so I greeted my parents and rushed to my room. I threw myself on the bed looking at the ceiling of my room. "Come to think of it, I did not tell Luna about my dream!" I suddenly realized. 'Maybe you should speak to her tomorrow' my eagle spirit said. "So now you decide to show up" I could hear her giggling at the back of my head. I didn't want to argue with her today so I decided to go to sleep instead.

At night, I woke up not knowing why. "Did you sense something Spark?" I asked. 'Yes! Someone is watching us!' I turned my head towards the window. "Can you tell who is it?" she stayed silent for a while. 'Yes it's an owl but not an ordinary one. It's-' "It's like us!" I got out of my bed, walk towards the window and I saw it. It had glowing eyes that were black as the darkness.

I could tell that my eyes change its color because my vision was ten times better than before. We stared at each other for a while until Luna opened my door. "Crystal told me there is an enemy on our terri-" She stopped talking as she looked at my eyes. She approached my window and saw the nocturnal bird. Her eagle spirit, Crystal, told her that the enemy was here. The more she looked at it, the more she was getting consumed by its aura and I could see feathers growing on her neck. "Hey! Snap out of it!" I grabbed her shoulder and she turned to look at me; her eyes were yellow and had a piercing look.

After a while, the owl flew away. Luna went back to her room after hugging me, she was as confused as I was. 'Quite surprising that it did not attack us' Spark said. "You're right eagles and owls are enemies. Then why it didn't attack us?" I continued to gaze outside. 'Like us huh?' Spark interrupted my thoughts. "Well you were about to say that right?" I said. 'No idiot! I was saying that she is a half-human and half-bird.'

"That literally means the same thing"

'No it doesn't! She is our enemy and we are nothing like her!!" Spark said.

"Nevermind! I don't really have the time to argue with a silly bird!!"

'And it's useless to talk to you humans!!' She spoke furiously.

The next morning, I came down for breakfast thinking that it was time to tell Luna about that eagle I met, who I assumed I was dreaming of. 'Well he was in your dreams too though.' Spark interrupted my thoughts again.

After breakfast, I dragged my sister into her room and closed the door behind her. "Hey! Listen I need to tell you something it's about our trip in the forest." I gave her a stern look. "What happened?" she said in a tense tone. "Yesterday, before I fainted I saw a harpy eagle flying at my direction and he had the portion in its beak. When I asked him who he was, he only said to consider him as an angel. I don't really know his name." I wanted to know it myself who was the person that saved me so I decided not to tell her.

"Do you know who found me in the woods by the way?" I asked changing the subject. "Oh! It was Jacob!" I did not expect that. 'Well that didn't take you long to discover' Spark added. 'What do you mean? You already knew about this?' I asked in my mind. 'No! I just found out, Luna just said it!' And she started giggling again. 'You know sometimes it's pointless to even argue with you!' I said. 'I know right!!' She started laughing hysterically which made my head almost explode.

'But you need to ask the leaders for that because what you saw was a lie, Jacob is human! If he was an eagle I would have sensed it! Especially my kind!' She finally spoke after blasting my head for a whole minute. I nodded and asked Luna if we could go to the leaders. She agreed and we sprinted in the forest. Our parents were not at home so it was pretty easy for us to go out.

We knew on foot it would be too slow so we transformed and flew to the castle. "Your highness!" We bowed as soon as we arrived at the place. "Hello girls!" Hippogriff greeted us. "Please call us by our name! If you don't, I'll be angry." Griffin grinned at us but as Roc came the atmosphere suddenly became serious. "What brings you here girls? Is something bothering you?" Roc asked. We didn't really have to explain because Griffin had already read my mind after that and he told the others.

'So before you fainted you saw that eagle and you're thinking that Jacob is not that eagle,' Roc said. I guess Griffin also told him that I didn't want Luna to know that so he mind linked me. 'Yes Roc!' I nodded in agreement. 'And why do you think that?' he questioned me. 'My eagle spirit can sense him and she told me that he's just a mere human being.' I said.

'But I will advise you to keep an eye on him and look for signs of transformation!' Roc ordered. 'Hannah it is going to be hard for you to do this task alone for the first time but I believe you can do it,' Griffin encouraged me. The whole time when we were mind linking, Luna stayed quiet and I felt pretty bad for her. She knew what was going on but it didn't really matter for her; she has always trusted her leaders and me.
