Chapter 12

Olivia's POV

He just said he was human. Did he know what that meant to me? It was a subtle reminder of what I had done. The evil I let my father compel me to do. Could I ever forgive myself? I noticed that his gaze was on me and I willed myself to be strong.

"I'm also hungry, do you think you can get me something to eat?" He asked.

I was more than surprised by his new behavior. If I had known that the potion would make him act like this, I might have done it earlier. But the cost is too much and I feel guilty. Perhaps I should just drink the second one and write a note to him?

Father said it will kill him off slowly, which meant I wouldn't die immediately. What if he caught me before I died and went through extra means to bring me back just to punish me?

I nodded.

"Alright, hurry up, it's getting late." He said and relaxed back in his bed. I stood up and left his chamber.

The person who had stopped me earlier was a servant. She dared to accuse me of doing something I wouldn't dare say. When she explained what she claimed to know I did, I chuckled.

I tried to speak severally but I couldn't. She was surprised that I couldn't speak.

I gestured to her that I was mute and couldn't even say my name, so how could I have said such things against the Alpha?

She apologized and left me alone. It was too scary for me, considering I had just done something bad. What if someone had caught me slipping the potion into the king's wine? What would I say was my reason?

Nothing, of course, I couldn't speak, to begin with. Maybe Devon would not believe it. I could say they were framing me since they knew I couldn't speak to defend myself.

I entered the kitchen and some maids were there. I don't know what it is they all do here, it's not as if the alpha is always that hungry. But they are always so much in the kitchen.

Devon asked me to get food for him, I gestured to them. Rather than answering me, they began to mock me. I felt annoyed at that. If only I wasn't this way, would they dare to mistreat me? I would have been their Luna!

The maid that had met me outside suddenly came in.

"What's going on here?" She demanded and they all quietened. "I asked a question."

"It's this mute. She came in here and started moving her hands like a magician, we don't know if she wants to jinx us as well."

The maid turned to me. She might have just been noticing me as well.

"Olivia, what do you want?" She asked softly.

I could feel pain in my chest because of how I was treated. I tried to gesture to her but my hands kept shaking. Despite that, she managed to understand what I needed.

"Alpha Devon asked for a meal? He doesn't usually eat this late." She said.

The maids snickered. "Perhaps she's using it as a means to get something for herself."

I turned angrily and opened my mouth to yell. "Sh..ut... Up!"

They all paused at first and I felt like I had subdued them but then they all burst out laughing.

"Enough." The other maid who might just be the head maid commanded. "Give her the Alpha's meal."

The maids arranged the food the way Devon was always served and handed it to me. I took it and left, bowing slightly to the head maid in appreciation. As I left, I could hear her scolding them for the way they had treated me. I tried to block their voices from my head.

It wasn't my fault I was the way I am. I didn't ask for it, I didn't cause it. I didn't commit any crime against the moon goddess for her to make me like this. Regardless, I took the meal to Devon. He had managed to sit up in his bed and his eyes followed my every movement.

I placed the meal on the table beside him. I stared at him, wondering how he would be able to eat alone.

"I can't lift my hands." He said. "Feed me."

My eyes widened and I put my gaze on the floor. Feed him? When did our relationship become this? How did he trust me to the extent of asking me to feed him?

"Are you shy?" He asked.

I shook my head. I wasn't shy at all.

"Then take the spoon and feed me." He said. "Move the chair closer to the bed, hold the tray on your laps, and feed me."

I held the chair and began to move it slowly. I was waiting for him to suddenly get up and say he was messing with me and then begin to eat by himself. Even if he insults me in the process, it wouldn't be as hurtful as this was weird.

"Olivia, time is going! I don't eat this late. What delayed you anyway?" He suddenly asked and I quickly shook my head.

He chuckled. "Do you know that when people lie, they either answer too quickly or too slowly and when they're corrected, they want to answer rightly?"

He caught me, I was about to answer properly. I smiled sheepishly. Nothing had happened. The maids were helping me prepare the meal.

He didn't say anything as to whether he believed me or not but I hope he did. If he asked them, they could say anything and I wouldn't be able to defend myself.

"Feed me, Olivia. The meal is getting cold." He said. It dawned on me then that there was no escaping from this. I had no choice, I sat down beside his bed, took the tray, and set it in my lap. I took a spoon full of the food and moved it to his mouth. He stared me in the eye as he opened his mouth and took it in.

This is weird.
