*knock knock*
Winchester came from his room to open the door while scratching his head. His eyes were barely open.
"Mr Winchester!" Jessica exclaimed as he opened the door.
"Ms Lennon?!" He was surprised.
"Sorry to disturb you, Mr Winchester. It was a bit urgent."
"No no, it's-it's completely fine. Come in, what are you doing here? It's cold outside..." Jessica followed him inside with a slight nod.
Turning the lights on in his hall he made her sit on the sofa. The room had authentically old styling with dark brown floorboards and dark brown wallpapers. Everything was so dull coloured but one thing caught Jessica's attention, that scarf. The scarf lying on the arm of one of the sofas in the hall. It was quite colourful than anything else in the whole room. It had a red checkered pattern all over it with white as its background.
"What would you like to have Ms Lennon, it's probably snowing outside I guess, you might be too cold." He offered while lighting up the fireplace.
She rubbed her hands and blew them up,
"Yeah, it's quite cold." She chuckled slightly.
"But it's fine, I'm okay just sitting here."
After he was done he came and sat in front of Jessica,
"Yeah, so what made you come here late at night?" He questioned.
"Ahem!" She cleared her throat nervously.
"You earlier...asked me to keep the first murder a secret from him- Mr Hebrew. Can I ask why?"
~~~~~
Here Hebrew eyes were wide open staring at the ceiling, usually sleeping straight helped him in sleeping when he wasn't able to but this time, it didn't work.
He sighed as he closed his eyes again, "You seem to hide it very well from everyone, even from the media."
After a long time, being home on his bed he used to sleep peacefully. But now he seemed to lose that happiness from his life.
"This isn't something I had ever expected to come to me..." He mumbled in his thoughts.
He wasn't sure how he would solve this case, this case could be a huge turn in his life.
~~~~~
"Suddenly why-"
"Hiding it from the media was absolutely understandable but from Mr Hebrew? Even when he is the one solving the case?" She interrupted Winchester.
A slight frown could be seen on her face.
"Why did you have to hide it from him? You even handed him the second murder's case but you still are hiding many things from him. Why?"
Suddenly Winchester felt slight unease, he never knew someone so naive as Jessica would question him about such deep things. He hesitated.
"Ms Lennon, things...aren't so easy right now and that murderer is still out. So, I recommend you to go home and take res-"
"You think I'll be able to? Everything I gathered, I found out as evidence or link to the case has been given to someone who is so blinded by his own arrogant aura that he can't see anything else. Everything I worked on has been labelled under his name and you keep hiding things from him. And after all this, you want me to go home and rest?" She was breathless by now.
"Ms Lennon this time isn't correct, you have to wait."
"How much more? How much more do I have to wait? This case isn't just a case, it's my life, my dream my everything."
"Ms Lennon, I know how you feel right now. But we had to call him, he is one of the finest detectives of Whitecha-"
"Who fakes evidences?" She sarcastically laughed interrupting him.
"How did you-"
"He was in jail for the last five years for faking evidence and hiding his name from a crime. And still you trust him?"
Jessica wasn't able to understand these two men's point of view. On the one side, was a man full of arrogance who committed a crime and still lives as if he wasn't ever wrong in his entire life. while on the other, is a man who trusts this criminal fully as if he believes Hebrew was never wrong but also keep hiding things from him as if having trust issues. She felt suffocated by their thoughts as they give her the feeling of an abyss. Having no end, no answers.
"Finest detectives...do you know what he feels about you? He calls you fake, he thinks you fabricate things and then present them."
"Now whom should I trust?"
"Listen, Ms Lennon-"
"I won't!"
"Answer me, why are you hiding the details of the first murder from him?"
"I can't tell you this, it's confidential!" Winchester was bound.
Jessica stood up, she knew the way Hebrew had provoked her, the same can be applied on Winchester too.
"Then I must tell him. After all, he is the finest one."
She said and made her way towards the door,
"Stop!" Winchester stood up from the sofa and reached for Jessica's arm.
"Do you even know what you're up to?!" His voice raised.
"Yes, I know! I'm doing what is right!" She jerked his hand and was about to open the door when he declared.
"He-he is violent!"
Jessica turned around and looked at him with many questions in his eyes.
"I know him since he solved his first case. It's been twelve years since I am named as an officer and I've seen his work up close."
He rubbed his forehead as he knew what he had started speaking, he had to end.
"Continue please." She requested.
"Hebrew has an inhumane nature when it comes to interrogating criminals and witnesses."
"With his keen observations, if he ever finds out that someone's lying then he might do whatever it takes to make that person speak. During his work, it doesn't matter if the person is a male or a female. The only thing which matters is the truth."
"I never want him to treat people that way again and so, I gave you the case. But the situations were terrible and out of my hand when I saw that corpse lying under the bridge. The murderer seems to be very clever and I had to call him."
"Is this why you had to hide everything from him?" She asked again for surety.
He nodded, "This murderer is quite inspired by the murderer whom people used to call Jack the ripper. By the corpse of the second murder we had also found a small note which was probably written by him, it said, we won't be able to find him just like Jack the ripper."
"And so, we had to call him. Because he is the only one who can solve this case. No criminal since I became the head has been so clever as him."
"And so, I had to hide things from him, I hope you understand."
Jessica nodded slightly, "I'll take my leave now."
She left Winchester's house and waddled over the dark road sunk in her thoughts. Winchester didn't seem just too right in her eyes. Hiding evidences and details from a detective just because he is inhumane, it didn't make sense to her. But still she wondered,
"Is he really so inhumane?..."
