The guest in enemy territory!

Someone was arguing in hushed tones. I keep my eyes closed, there is no real reason but my instincts tell me to wait. " Why do you defend a foreigner and an enemy at that!!!" A rough voice whispered rather angrily. "The war is over Brian, he's not our enemy anymore" the tired voice of Ivan replied." Not at the moment!" Brian hissed angrily. After a few breaths later he continued. " you know how it works Ivan, this peace is just a façade. A trick to get the common man to support his Highness's whims. As soon as his Highness gets upset we will have another war upon us. When the time comes will this bastard stay with us or will he turn his cloak and stab us in the back!".

I hear someone sigh. It's probably Ivan. " I know that Brian, how many wars have I fought with you? Just believe me I know he won't betray us. He's a good lad" his tone is the only thing hinting at his annoyance. Obviously this is not the first time he's had this conversation.

"You better close your eyes and wait" Joe whispered in my head. " We don't know our situation yet". Joe cautioned me. "Why are you whispering? . You are in my head Joe, m no one is gonna hear you except me" I did not miss the opportunity to be a little bit of sassy. It's not everyday that I get to ridicule Joe. After all they don't tell you that you are your worst enemy for nothing! "Shush!!" Joe hissed in my head angrily. In my gleeful moment I had almost missed an important snitbit of the conversation going on. "Fine I'll take responsibility to his actions and I will make sure he swears his loyalty to this country. He will not get the privileges of being a citizen of this country until the military judges him to be worthy but he will be under our law and will have to uplift the responsibility of a citizen of this country. Is it enough or do you need more" Ivan whispered in a rather serious tone. It was my first time hearing someone talk sternly when whispering. "Are you sure Ivan? If this lad betrays us we will take your head!" With that the other man " Brian" walked off and once more silence descended to the place I was.....wherever that is. Sound of soft footsteps broke the silence and I sense a presence near me. " I'm sorry lad, I had no other choice. It was either your life or your honour and I made the choice for you. I hope you would forgive this old man"
