Just the fact that Da Vinci was 23 years older than Michelangelo is enough to disprove it.

When Michelangelo began creating "David," Da Vinci was nearly fifty years old, so it was impossible for him to be the prototype of a youthful David, with a robust physique, a determined expression, and muscles full of young male hormones.

The reason this legend has persisted is firstly because Michelangelo's David is too famous.

Secondly, it's because Western art historians indeed believe that Da Vinci once modeled for a statue of David.

Not for Michelangelo's, but for his mentor Verrocchio's.

As to how well Da Vinci could sing when he was young, that is no longer verifiable since there were no phonographs during the Renaissance.
