4 Cashing In.

(Maybe slightly slow paced to set up for the future. There will be time skips as I choose the time for his future when the main events start.)

After the talk with Henry, a few bounties were put for live and uninjured wolves. A few people brought some wolves that were caught and Jack began to use his powers over wolves to train them and resell them.

He also gave them a small order that if they were abused to kill their new owners and their families. He may want to get more money, but he did not want the wolves to be completely wiped out or treated as common dogs, but he had to compromise.

He sold the wolves for 5 dollars for the males and the females for 10 with inflation to 2010 was about $125.32 and 250$ respectively in today's money. That meant most people could not afford it, but it meant that the ones who bought them would be more carrying as they would have spent more money for them.

He had been here 2 months and he had sold and retrained about 80 wolves so he had made 400 dollars. Of course, he took 60% of the profits and Henry took 40 percent. Meaning he still had made 240$ or 6000 with inflation.

He still knew where the wolves he sold were and he could command them from his home. What he saw was that they were all used as guard dogs or trackers. He also saw them being used to tracking runaway slaves and he felt a bit bad about it, but it was not his place to meddle.

As for his own pet wolves, they were with him as he had gotten out of the hotel to a new house he was renting. He had made quite a name for his strange outfit and his seeming perfect ability to train and tame wolves for sale.

The men who bought wolves from him recommended him to their friends, bringing him more business and showing that wolves were not just the blood-thirsty monsters that people thought they were.

At the moment Jack was messing around with wire trying to make barbed wire while his pets watched with interest. The basic barbed wire was just two pieces of wire and a spiky part wrapped around it. In time this would end the cattle trails, but for now it would be his first invention.

He could do it with his bare hands while he was in the process of inventing/stealing barbed wire early. For now, it was just barbed wire, but he would need to patent it so he could have the royalties.

"Well, at least it was easy to make. However, I can't do it all by hand. Maybe I should buy or free a slave and turn them into a werewolf."

However when he heard himself he became disgusted with himself. When he was out in Afghanistan his best friend saved his life and just thinking about it was like he was degrading that memory.

"Nah, I may not be the best person around, but what would Jamal say if he knew I even thought about it. Wait, a prisoner will not be missed."

As he was thinking about how to get some loyal servants he heard footsteps coming toward his home. He was starting to get used to using his senses and from what he could smell it was Henry's butler.

"Red, go open the door please."

The brown wolf walked off and began to paw at the door handle until it opened. The butler saw the wolf opened the door and had to say they were well trained. No wonder people were going crazy to buy their own. Even Henry had bought 3 for himself, but they were not this good.

"Can I go in?"

Red just walked in while looking back as if telling him to follow. The man followed the wolf until he saw Jack messing with wire while looking quite focused. Jack looked quite strange with how large he was while messing with some wire.

However Jack's voice shook him out from his thinking.

"So what can I help you with?"

The man coughed.

"Well your wolf let me in and I can see why people love your business. Sir Henry wanted to invite you to a small celebration with some businessmen who wanted to learn how you train the wolves."

Jack shook his head. "And lose my business, no thank you."

"A shame, what would you be working on right now?"

Jack looked at him and showed him what it was.

"Barbed wire. The idea that will make me rich however tell Henry I will be there. Fang, can you bring me my coat?"

The wolf went to the bed and grabbed the trench coat with her teeth and brought it to him. He grabbed the coat and put it on.

The Butler nodded. "Well, we have brought about another 12 wolves for you to train."

Jack got up and began to walk out toward Henry's house. It was not long, but when they got there he saw about 12 wolves in cages. He checked them all to make sure they were not hurt and they were just mad to be locked up.

When they saw him they just calmed down. 'Sorry about this, but it is better for your species if you are tamed them by being wiped out.'

"I see they are all healthy. Bring them to my home and I will start with them. Also, the price will have to go up from here on out."

The Butler was going to say that the price was enough, but Jack was just huge and he could sick his wolves on him at the snap of his fingers. The wolves stopped looking calm and he swore could see their eyes slightly glowing red, but after he blinked it stopped.

He just had to accept as his instinct was telling him he should just stay quiet and say yes.

"Yes sir."

That made Jack smile as his control over peoples minds was getting better. In time he should be able to easily mind control them with but a glance. For now he should just practice.

"Good."

People began to take the wolves in the cages to Jack's home where when all the people were gone Jack let the wolves out of their cages and he used his ability to control and talk to wolves to explain what was going on.

They all agreed without question as if it was for the best they would do it. Of course, he gave them the same order he gave all the others to kill their owners and their families if they were hurt or abused on purpose.

For now, he now had 18 wolves in his house counting his own; however he would be selling all of the new ones as he had no need for so many right now. For now, he just went back to working on the barbed wire which would make him quite a lot of money.

He also found that land was quite cheap right now and he wanted to make sure he was the one who bought the oil fields in Texas. As long as he owned that land he was set to be one of the richest men of the time and more after.

However, the war of Independence was beginning to brew as Texas had a high American population who came for the land but were still loyal to America. Jack might be American at heart, but countries in time would not matter to him.

He went back to work and within the week the wolves were sold and even if they wanted to stay with him he could not keep so many for now. In time he might get more as his wolves right now we're getting stronger.

From the wolves, 7 were male and 5 were female meaning he made 109$, or about 1650$ dollars. He found that this was quite a lucrative business as he did not take much. All he had to do was talk to the wolves and they would do it.

For now, he just worked on his barbed wire until the ball which would be in about a week. Jack avoided thinking of any of the strong beings as he knew that he might jinx himself so or now he just would take his time to make sure his plan went well.

Barbed wire would be a good thing for war like it was used in the world wars especially at the siege of the Alamo. If his barbed wire slowed down the Mexican Army it would show how good it was showing it was worth buying.

Jack got up and as it was the night he felt at his best. He felt his body growing stronger and if he wanted he felt he could rip the house he was in off the ground, but knowing the kind of beings were around it was not much for now.

Good thing he was just getting stronger, but it was slow. For the following week, Jack worked on a way to mass-produce barbed wire while they brought him wolves which he then sold, making him more money.

When it was time for the ball he was done with the machine that would make him his first fortune. He whistled and called for his wolves as he was bringing them with him. He no longer used the chains as leads but he found they were quite good weapons.

He started to walk toward Henry's house while his pets were around him like guards. What no one noticed was that they were quite a bit larger than a normal wolf, but it was not too noticeable right now.

James ran to him when the kid saw Jack as he liked to pet the wolves. When Jack saw the kid he sighed as this kid always followed him around.

"Hey James, how is your mom?"

"Ma is just fine. Can you sell me a wolf?"

"You got 5 dollars$?"

James sighed as no matter how much he begged Jack never sold him a wolf for cheap. He was saving his money so he could buy one, but when would that be. When he was an old man?

"James, I will see you later."

James waved goodbye while Jack reached the house of Henry. He saw a few men and women dressed in fancy clothes who all looked at him and his wolves with interest. His clothes seemed to be good leather and the wolves were all beautiful.

When Henry saw him the man smiled and approached him.

"Jack, it is good to see business is booming. My butler said you were working on some wire."

Jack shook the man's hand.

"Yup, I feel it may change how things work and make me rich. As you did help you can get a cut as well."

"That is some confidence. Are you sure it will work?"

"Positive.

"Well come with me. I would like to introduce you to my daughter Janise Colt."

A young woman with blond hair and a dress of the time approached and as Jack had no idea about the custom he did not take her hand and just stared.

"Nice to meet you, miss."

Henry felt it was odd, but did not say anything about it. She smiled at his height as she had to look way up to look at his face.

"My, my, father was not kidding when he said you are tall. How tall are you, sir Conner's?"

"6'7 and proud of it. I have not seen you around."

"Well, I do not live at my father's home. I am married so I live with my husband and our children."

Jack nodded. "Well if you ever want to buy a wolf I can go 20% off."

She just laughed at his joke. "I thank you for the offer sir. I will stop bothering you two. I hear you have businesses."

For the rest of the ball Jack spoke with Henry and a few other businessmen about his barbed wire idea. He did not tell them how it was made as he was not that stupid, but hearing about it they all felt it would be a good idea to invest in it.

One man thought about it. "Sir Jack. If you can prove it works I can begin to buy and spread word about it. This will make you a very wealthy man if it works."

Jack nodded. "Of course it will. It will keep people's cattle and land safe from cattle rustlers and keep the cattle safe."

More and offers if it worked so Jack would have to get busy as he had to get ready for when the war started. While the war would be a danger to most people he just saw it as a good way to get rich.

War is like an untapped oil field. Just poke the right part and you will get so much more from it than meets the eyes. After the party ended he walked home thinking of the money he would make.

However he smelled that someone was following him. The guy was normal, but he smelled of gunpowder and lead.

'Seems I found my first test subject for my venom.'

Jack walked to a secluded part of the town and the man followed him. However Jack stopped while his wolves all looked at the man who pulled out the pistol and pointed at him. He seemed calm as if he had done this before.

"No hard feelings however you need to die. Your idea will now belong to my employer."

Jack just sighed. "Why are humans so greedy?"

Jack approached the guy and the guy did not bother and just shot the ball that hit Jack in the chest. The bullet did not even leave a mark on his clothes or even hurt. When the man saw that he panicked, but what scared him more was that fact that Jack's and his wolves eyes were glowing red.

He was paralyzed, but what he saw next was even worse. Jack's mouth and jaws began to grow with huge fangs. Jack grabbed the guy and bit him on the shoulder. Toxic venom began to enter the wannabe assassin until Jack let go of him.

He fell to the ground while he began to convulse whole his veins turned black, bones shattered and his flesh ruptured. He was getting bigger, but not in a good way, he was filling up like a balloon until he stopped moving with black liquid leaking from his body.

"Shit, that was graphic. Seems my venom is even worse than I thought."

Jack took a deep breath and smelled the scent of one of the guys that was with Henry at the small party.

'Well seems I got another willing test subject.'

Jack grinned and walked away leaving the scene. He would need to try to find a way to avoid all his potential servants dying or he would never be able to turn others.
