Chapter 3

Renee POV

I arrived at the benefactor's home, and I was amazed. His home is a beautiful castle, and it looks like he is taking care of his home. There was a caretaker's home, and a guesthouse. I have been told that the castle is called "Château de la riviere-garou", or Castle of the Werepire.

Let me explain werepires and their counterparts, the vaewolves. Werepires are vampire-werewolf hybrids, but the werewolf gene is a bit more dominant. When they transform, they look like a werewolf with bat wings. Werepires can go in the sun, drink blood, and eat food. Vaewolves' vampire gene is a little more dominant, they don't transform into a werewolf. However, they transform into a frightening looking creature that looks like something from those Ed and Lorraine Warren movies, but with claws.

Vaewolves only eat food when they are trying to reproduce, but can go in the sun. Both creatures are able to feed on other vampires and werewolves, and eat raw meat. Vampires can feed off no-fangers (creatures who are in between humans and vampires, but not hybrids), but other vampires are gross to them. Drinking animal blood won't do much for beings who drink blood, it is like a human eating a candy when they haven't eaten all day. Their strength, as I heard, is amazing. Think lifting trains strong or throwing a beached whale back into the ocean with ease. Silver won't hurt us, but blessed by hunters, we are screwed. Anyway, they can turn others into werepires or vaewolves, but need a lot of care.

I see a bus and the people occupying the bus are werelves, or werewolf-elf hybrids. I guess they are trying to become part of the werepire lord's pack. You are not required to join a pack or coven, but there are some perks and some downsides. You will get protection and resources, but you will have to deal with entitled or biased people. The werewolves at my village don't belong to a pack, and love autonomy. My parents haven't been in a pack in two centuries. We might be confused with rogues (werewolves who are outlaws), fortunately we shifters can sense lies due to heartbeats.

A tall, pale woman with blue eyes came outside and greeted me. She is a vampire-werewolf hybrid, and she was the most stoic being I have ever seen. "Nurse Boudon, I am Mr. Oman's assistant, Selina. Please come with me! I will show you around," said the woman in a terse tone. Selina turned around abruptly, and started to march back inside the castle, with me rushing behind her. The inside of the mansion is beautiful, the design is a modern style. The conservatory and laboratory are spectacular. The castle has ten bedrooms and five bathrooms. The hearth room, parlor room, wine cellar, large kitchen, pool, attic, mudroom, and home office are magnificent. This place gives me a homelike feel.

I smelled the earthiest, most addictive scent that I have ever smelled. The scent was coming from behind me, and I felt a looming presence behind me. I turn around to find my mate behind me. Only one's beloved could smell like this.

My mate is a mountain of a man, I am guessing 203.2 centimeters (six foot eight). He has a warrior's body, which makes me wonder how he is so quiet. He has beautiful, cacao black skin that looks so flawless. This male is ruggedly handsome, he kind of reminds you of an African warrior chief. He looked so out of place in his custom-made, fancy clothes. His eyes screamed intelligence, his aura screamed danger. I can tell that in his aura, he is confident but has seen some things. His amber eyes seem old and jaded. His black buzz cut suits him just fine.

I was told that he is a council member, socialite, industrialist, philanthropist, hotelier, investor, and owner of a biochemical genetics laboratory. If Mama was here, she would welcome him as her son-in-law, while Papa would be incredulous about him. Papa will always be protective of his daughters, and wants us to be independent. Mama wants us to be with financially stable males while being employed. Mama has always told us to always have your own money. Papa doesn't believe in house husbands, but doesn't want us completely reliant on our mates. Nikita will size him up, while the younger ones will be excited about having an older brother.

The mountain finally spoke in a deep, but slightly accented voice. "Hello, Renee. I finally get to meet you in person after all this time," he said as lifted my hand and kissed the back of it. I looked at him in confusion, and was about to ask him when a faepire (a fairy-vampire hybrid) came rushing in with his injured child. The child dislocated his shoulder, and was crying in pain. I rushed over and helped the child. I rubbed his arm gently, had the father distract him while I relocated his arm. I advised the father to take him to the village clinic for medication. A distraught werelf came rushing in with her three-month-old baby. I checked the baby, and she had a cold. I advised the mother to take the baby to the clinic also. A three-month-old with a cold is bad. A teenage dhampir came in with fresh first degree burns on her arms. I immediately helped the poor girl, it took me an hour to calm her down and treat her wounds. What have these people been doing to themselves? Oman and Selina both looked embarrassed, annoyed, and a bit angry. There was a wave of people coming in to get treated by me, one by one. It took me all day to treat everyone. It was as if the majority of the pack were accident-prone. What in the name of God is going on here? I was so exhausted, I was starting to fall asleep. Oman picked me a carried me into a bedroom. He took off all of my clothes and tucked me into the bed. Oman kissed me on my forehead before I fell asleep.
