Chapter 10

Renee POV

Julian and I are sparing together, and I was finally able to take him down. I skipped breakfast because I lost my appetite. I have been so jumpy lately that I have been losing my appetite. Julian and I were just taking a break when a female vampire came rushing towards me with her dhampir child. "My lady, my son is very sick. I gave him some medicine, and it isn't working. It made him worse," said the hysterical mother, who sobbed as she handed the boy to Julian, and then shoved the medication she used on the boy. "How old is the boy?" I asked. "My little boy is five," she sobbed. I know that I shouldn't have done this, but the ignorance astounds me. "YOU GAVE ADULT ACETAMINOPHEN TO A SMALL CHILD! BRING ME EVERY MYSTIC WEREWOLF AND VAMPIRE WHO IS COMPETENT IN POTIONCRAFT, NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWW!" I screamed at the mother, making her and Julian flinch. She ran with her tail between her legs, while Julian called the warriors to get a first aid kit. It took us the whole day to save the child. The boy was finally resting peacefully, so I took the mother to the guesthouse with Julian in pursuit and had her kneel on the ground. I know that what I am about to do is harsh at a time like this, but I speak for all medical professionals who had to deal with clueless parents.

"Do you understand why I brought you here? I didn't want to wake your son up. Did you know that there is a perfect reason why children have separate medications from adults? Acetaminophen can be extremely harmful. Did you know that your child was overdosing because you gave him an adult acetaminophen? SHUT UP! A CHILD NEVER ASKS TO BE BORN, AND A CHILD DESERVES LOVING PARENTS. That innocent creature deserves much more than a foolish and careless mother like you. Acetaminophen overdoses can happen to children if you are in a hurry, and grab the wrong medication. Acetaminophen overdoses can happen to children if that child mistakes it for juice or sweets. I wouldn't hold it against them because they don't know any better. Acetaminophen overdoses can happen when you combine medications, use the wrong formulation, or decide more is better. SHUT UP OR I WILL GIVE YOU SOMETHING TO CRY ABOUT! Tell me! Are you one of those mothers who think that, just because you read a medical journal or a magazine, that you know more about medicine and the human body than the medical professional who went to school for it? Tell me! Are you one of those mothers who think that, blindly listening to Mommy blogs instead of a trusted medical professional? DON'T LOOK AT JULIAN LIKE HE IS GOING TO HELP YOU! You had five years to learn how to be a decent or okay mother. I am not saying that you have to be perfect, there is no such thing as perfect. However, as a parent, it is your job to know and learn how to take care of your child. If we were all mortals, he wouldn't be here right now! You will take parenting and cooking classes, and then get certified in CPR/First Aid. You will have to prove that the boy is safe with you. You will be paying for the classes, considering you were at fault. You are going to find a part-time job, so you can spend time with your little boy. I know being a parent, let alone a single parent, is difficult. However, you chose to have and keep the child. He is your responsibility until he turns into a legal adult. Your son is not your free caregiver or personal atm, he is a living and breathing being. Now, you can go," I said. The mother scurried off to God knows where.

Julian glared at me as I had to drink a cup of water from the kitchen. "Did you really have to yell at her after she almost lost her child?" he asked in a judgmental tone. I am not about to let a guy who has never been a nurse or doctor in his life try to judge me. "Considering that I had to save a child from his mother's stupidity with the help of mystic werewolves and vampires. Considering that, one of them threw up on me. Let me think, yes! It took us a whole day to save the child. Do you have any idea what it is like to lose a patient? Do you have any idea what it is like to fail to save a child? Do you have any idea what it is like to work long hours, and receive little gratitude? Do you have any idea what it is like to be treated like a dime of a dozen? Have you ever been puked, peed, defecated, or bled on? Do you have to make sure that a narcissistic doctor who lacks common sense doesn't accidentally kill the patient? If not, please refrain from your comments," I said.

I left a stunned Julian at the guesthouse, and went to Oman's bathroom to take a nice bath. Once the bath was ready, I stripped naked and got in. Once I was in the tub, tears started to fall. I began to cry over almost losing the child, over losing my temper, and my fight with Julian. Oman had some business to take care of. I was in the tub for an hour crying before I got out. I dried myself with a random towel, and put on some lotion. I made sure my phone was in Oman's room charging when I was helping the child. The people who helped me are watching over the child. I checked and answered all my messages and calls. It is quite difficult to sound like everything is okay when you cry for an hour. After I was done with that task, I climbed into bed, and went to sleep.
