6. System Upgrade

"Oh wow! What did you say? I can use my power now."

The system was really speechless; out of everything I said, it only listened about the power. Sigh, did I really choose a good host?

"Hey, why aren't you talking?" Ethan asked again.

As for Ethan, he heard every single word, but to escape this embarrassing moment for both of them, Ethan changed the subject.

"Yes, i heard it. You can use your power now." Hearing this, Ethan was really happy. He always saw others using their powers to do anything and had always been envious of them, but now he has his own power.

"Can I try it now, or will it be dangerous?"

"Why don't you find out?"

"Fine, then here goes nothing." Without any hesitation, Ethan pointed his hand in a direction where no one lives and said, "Fire beam."

But after waiting for quite a while, nothing happened. "Why is it not working? I saw everyone do that, and their power comes out like magic."

"Hahahaha... You really are funny. You know, you are one of a kind. Hahahah....."

Suddenly, Ethan heard laughter from the system and felt quite embarrassed.

"What are you laughing about?"

"Nothing, Ethan. It doesn't work like that. First, you have to visualize the power you have. Imagine a fire beam. Second, feel the mana inside you. When you use these two actions simultaneously, then you will succeed."

Even though the system wanted to tease him a little, it stopped itself. Ethan had already been through quite a painful hour, so it directly explained without a second thought.

"Ok, let me try." Ethan then closed his eyes and started to feel the mana inside his body. After about ten minutes of concentration, Ethan finally felt the mana inside his body below his stomach.

After that, Ethan started to visualize a fire beam. Even though he had never seen one before, because novels and anime in this period are very popular, it wasn't that difficult.

Once he was done visualizing, Ethan pointed his finger forward again and tried to move his mana to his finger. Even though it was difficult, it still moved as per his instruction.

When he finished moving his mana to his fingertips and visualized the fire beam, something seemed to trigger inside him. A red beam suddenly shot out from Ethan's finger, which looked like he was holding a gun. This made Ethan very happy.

But when he saw the damage it had caused, he became speechless. "Is this really a fire beam?"

This time, the system didn't stay silent and started laughing like a maniac.

"Hahaha... Really, Ethan? What did you expect from an E-grade power? Hahahaha..."

Ethan stared at the black spot on the wall silently, ignoring the system completely. "I can't even kill a small mosquito with it. How am I supposed to kill monsters?" Ethan said.

"Maybe you forgot, but you have a system now."

"Yes, an unreliable one."

"What? Why don't you find out after upgrading me?"

Then Ethan remembered the core and told the system to absorb the core fast.

Suddenly, the beast core which was on the table vanished in front of Ethan's eyes. He just blinked a few times, but nothing changed. "Hey, did the core disappear suddenly? Did you do this?"

"Yup, who else is so magnificent like me?"

"Now don't talk. It will take me an hour to finish my upgrade, so just stay silent until then. And you too, sit down somewhere because you will also feel some changes inside you. So be ready." Finished saying, the system went quiet. As instructed, Ethan sat down on the floor and waited for what was to come.

Thirty minutes later, Ethan started to feel something warm and comforting. It felt good, like his mother was hugging him again, and tears started to drop from Ethan's eyes unknowingly.

This went on for another thirty minutes and finally came to an end, but Ethan just sat there without speaking.

The system also felt the emotional fluctuations from Ethan, and being a smart system, it stayed silent and checked his status.
