Ten steps

Xia Biming no longer had the guts to bid on another item. Luckily for her, nothing else interested her.

Over at another table, "Tian Tian, why didn't you win that bid for me? I really wanted those bangles." Zhao Liling whined. She just hated losing to Xia Biming.

Feeling annoyed, Yu Tianhao finished his 11th drink of the night and excused himself. He just wanted some fresh air.

After a few minutes, Zhao Lingyu excused herself on the pretense of using the lady's room. She headed towards it, but at the last second switched directions to look for Yu Tianhao. She found him on the balcony smoking a cigarette.

"Brother Tianhao, what are you doing here?"

"I'm smoking, what else would I be doing? You should head back inside, don't let your sister catch us out here together." He directed with by waving her away with one hand.

Zhao Lingyu caught his hand, "It's okay Brother Tian Tian, I told her I was using the restroom. I still have a couple of minutes before needing to head back. How bout I relieve you of some of your worries?"

"No! Lingyu, you can't do this here."

"So you want to get a room?" She said in a seductive voice while placing his hand on her hip and drew herself close to him.

She pulled the cigarette out of his mouth with her other hand and lifted her head to plant her lips on his. "I can help you."

He pulled her in for another kiss, falling for her addictive lips again. He wanted to go in for another kiss when they were interrupted by the sound of a falling object. Their heads both shot up to find Zhao Liling standing before the balcony.

She had dropped her phone on her quest to find Yu Tianhao since the auction was about to start. She didn't expect to find him with Zhao Lingyu in such an atrocious situation.

"What are you… Was what Biming true? Was she talking about you two?" Zhao Liling didn't want to believe it, but she saw it with her own eyes.

"I'm sorry older sister! I tried to stop what was happening between me and brother Tianhao but couldn't bring myself to." She cried her fake tears. "I've loved him as long as you have! I wanted to feel his love, too!"

"Zhao Lingyu! He's about to become your brother-in-law and the father of your nephew! Did you not think of the consequences?!" Zhao Liling's anger blew up, she walked towards the two and slapped Yu Tianhao across the face.

Smack!

"How could you do this to me? To us?" She rubbed her little belly and her tears started strolling down her angered cheeks.

"Don't hit him, Ling! He loves me more than you. I'll raise your child as my own if you wish!" Zhao Lingyu pleaded her sister.

"What the hell are you talking about? I am the one with Yu Tianhao! Not you!" In her rage, she also smacked Zhao Lingyu across the cheek.

Smack! Smack!

She just couldn't help it; she gave her another slap after the first one.

"Yu Tianhao! Come back with me right now or else!" Zhao Liling grabbed Yu Tianhao away from Zhao Lingyu and dragged him back to banquet.

Zhao Lingyu stood in disbelief for a few seconds before following suit. She had already dug her heels in too far to stop. She raced after the two.

She found them arguing right in front the entrance to the banquet. He was attempting to get out of Zhao Liling's hold as gently as he could.

"Yu Tianhao! Zhao Lingyu is just a child. How could you do such dirty acts with her? She is going to be the aunt of our child." She rose her fists up to pound them on his chest.

Yu Tianhao didn't resist and took them, he also felt bad guilty he saw Zhao Liling's tears and he thought about his child. But Zhao Lingyu couldn't take it! She wanted to sever the relationship between the two.

Zhao Lingyu didn't even think, her rage burned bright and fiery in her eyes. She just acted without reasoning and ran towards the couple. She couldn't watch her lover get hit!

She ran over quickly and pushed Zhao Liling away from Yu Tianhao. "Liling! Don't hit him anymore!" Her loud voice carried into the banquet and everyone looked to see the commotion including Xia Biming.

When all the guests looked towards the noise, they saw the younger Zhao Lingyu push her sister Zhao Liling away from Yu Tianhao. Zhao Liling's heels weren't very tall, only about five cm. But she still lost her balance from the unexpected force.

Zhao Liling screamed and tried to grab onto to anything she could but failed before toppling down into the banquet hall. The entrance of the banquet hall had a set of stairs that led into it. It wasn't tall, but still had a series of steps; about ten steps.

Zhao Liling went tumbling down the stairs with her screams. When she ended at the bottom of the set of stairs, she was in the banquet hall and felt a sharp pain in her lower abdomen.

She immediately clutched her baby bump and let out another agonizing cry of pain. The pain was like no other. She happened to wear a light pink dress with a thin skirt. She noticed a line of red on the skirt between her thighs. And then she felt the wetness from the pool of blood beneath her.

The table in which Xia Biming happened to sit at wasn't too far from the entrance and she witnessed the whole mess. She stood up when she saw Zhao Liling fall, with her thoughts only on the innocent life inside the woman. She was the first to reach Zhao Liling.

"Zhao Liling! Are you okay? What happened?" Xia Biming supported Zhao Liling's back and then noticed the blood pooling between the legs.

"Oh my god! You're bleeding!" Biming understood the situation now and looked behind her to see Xue Changmin standing there. "Chang, call the ambulance! Hurry!" Her voice was panicked and broken.

Xue Changmin reluctantly following Xia Biming to the fallen woman and did exactly as Biming instructed him. He acted quick and then bent down to pick up the fallen woman, not caring about the blood.

The three of them rushed out of the hall and into the car that Xue Changmin had just called for. He placed Zhao Liling in the backseat where Xia Biming sat as well without hesitation. He made the decision to drive personally and sped all the way to the nearest hospital.

"Chang drive faster!"

"I'm already going so fast Biming, calm down! Try to calm down Zhao Liling or else she might hyperventilate!" He was already breaking nearly all traffic laws on this road just to please Xia Biming.

"Xia Biming, why are you helping me? I don't deserve your kindness." Zhao Liling didn't understand Xia Biming's intentions. She thought that the latter had hated her.

"No, you don't deserve my help, but the child inside you did nothing wrong. Now stop talking and focus on breathing. I know it must hurt but bear with it a little longer." Xia Biming allowed Zhao Liling to squeeze her hand as much as she wanted in an attempt to alleviate the pain.

They reached the hospital within five minutes and Xue Changmin carried Zhao Liling inside with Xia Biming following behind. Once they got Zhao Liling into emergency care, the two sat on the side outside of the ward replaying the events that just happened.

Xue Changmin could not understand why Xia Biming would help her enemy either, "Why did you help her?"

Xia Biming's stomach churned thinking about everything, "I don't know. I just didn't want the child to be hurt. I acted on impulse."
