Chapter 1: Welcome to another world

As the young man sighed, sitting on his desk chair in front of his computer. He had no idea that his great adventure was about to start.

All right, I'll introduce myself. My name is Jemuel Shirakami, my father is Japanese and my mother Gabonese. 'For those who don't know, Gabon is a small country located in Central Africa.' I'm a nineteen years-old college sophomore, and for a few years now I'm an Otaku. Of course, with no social who spend the majority of his time watching anime's and reading manga's or light novel.

"What ?! How did I end up like this ?!"

Well, it'll take too long to explain but you can say I saw how useless I am and falling in love with that part of the Japanese culture was the best things that happened to me during these recent years.

I'm 6-foot 1, with white hair and sharp brown eyes, and because of my neutral facial expression, people tend to think of me as a cold person... Which is sometimes true ! but I am also able to laugh and smile with people, even though I admit that recently, I only did it when I was watching a good anime and reading a good manga or light novel.

I don't like going to college but for people like me with no talent, nor ambitions or motivations, we have to do this if we want to live a decent life in this society. Obviously, my parents are part of the reasons I go to college. They want the best for their son; therefore, I'll do my best to graduate, find a stable full-time job and live a decent life.

Actually, I live at Tokyo in an apartment of 400 sq. (Square foot), with a small kitchen, bathroom and my living room associated with my bedroom. I'm able to rent this place thanks to the monthly allowance my parents give me and my part-time job that I began recently. They're really nice but sometimes I'm a bit embarrassed of having to depend financially of them.

Oh right ! I just finished the season 2 of Re: Zero-Starting life in another word.

It's one of my favorite anime's and Light novel-series. I love the fact that the main character is so human and that most people can relate to him.

"Aaaahhh man ! I'd love to be summoned to another world" I said blankly.

"I might be able to start a new life even though I don't know why another world would need me when the one where I was born doesn't."

Anyway, I'm hungry. Let's see what's on the fridge.

A 2L cardboard box of expired milk and a small packet of skittles (candy). I see, so that's where this bad smell come from.

"I guess I'll go buy a pizza", I said after sighing.

I'm not a fan of home delivery, it's expensive and it doesn't cost me anything to walk 10 minutes from here to the pizzeria.

"What time is it ?... 8:00pm. Humm, I think the pizzeria close at midnight on weekdays. Nice ! there's still time."

Then, I went to get some clothes in my closet and got changed.

I wore a black long sleeve shirt, a dark grey pant and a brown sneaker. I took my phone, my wallet, the key to lock the door and the small packet of skittles who was in my fridge in case I'm too hungry.

"Ok, it seems that I have everything I need. Let's get going" said I nonchalantly when others would be excited to be able to eat a pizza in a few minutes.

I opened the door, suddenly, while walking through it, a bright white light appeared and blinded me for a few second.

When I opened my eyes, I noticed two things. First, I was in a rather dark narrow alley which was unknown to me, with a paved road and the two buildings of this one looked old enough to be considered part of the medieval time. Second, it was a sunny day when it was supposed to be a moonlit night.

"But... How did I get there? I was supposed to be in the hallway of my apartment building in front of my door."

At that moment, my heart started to beat so hard that I could hear it. My eyes wide and my mouth open, I heard a crowd at the end of the road and started running towards it. When I got there, after taking a look around, I noticed I was at a marketplace.

I catch sight of different kind of people and race. Some with cat ears and tails, others with reptiles' ones, a talking bear who was wearing an armor, and obviously humans like me.

While looking at them, I lifted my head to my right of the road and saw plenty of medieval-style buildings and houses lining what looked like an endless road. At the end of it, in the distance on a hill was standing a large and magnificent white castle surrounded by a large black fence with spikes and a gate at the entrance. At the top of it, was placed a red flag with two gold crowns embroidered on it.

After that, calmly with my eyes closed and a nod of the head followed by a snap of the fingers I said with a loud voice

"Yea ! I've been summoned to another world !"

As I had many questions, I couldn't either hide the fact that I was excited about the life I'll have in this world.

"How did this happen ? And why me ? Is it finally my time to shine ?! I bet I gained some kind of superpower like super strength or fire magic."

Then, I calmed down and started to think about where I am going to spend the night, and how to make money here. Thoughtfully, with my thumb and forefinger on my chin, I started to take inventory of everything I had.

"I have my smartphone, my wallet, the key of my apartment and a small packet of skittles."

I doubt it will be of much use to me. I'll have to find a way to survive here first, I thought as I sigh.

After that, while staring at the sky crossed by birds, with a big smile, I raised my hand toward it and then, closed it tight.

"Let's start this life in another world !"
