Who Is Vonruil?

Walking down the street a twenty-three year old boy wearing blue jeans and a black hoodie passes by the people avoiding any hand contact. Just then a little boy is running down the street and bumps into him. As the boy looks up he sees the most beautiful boy he has ever seen. With purple eyes, black flowing hairs and a slender body, Jason was no less an angel on first look (What the boy didn’t know was the boy he just bumped into was Vonruil, an angel blessed and the Warlord with mystic magic who fought against Demon king Rival and saved humanity. But was betrayed by his own allies and forced to accusations).

Seeing Vonruil the boy says “Man you look like an angel!” And runs off.

A small weak smile creeps on Vonruil’s face as the boy runs off. It’s been a while since he smiled like that cause of a human. Ever since vonruil was betrayed by his allies, he’s been hiding in the human world under the disguise of Jason, a commoner who works at a shop for living. Apart from the boys who work with him and the owner, he speaks with no one. Because of the betrayal, the humans believe it’s cause of him they are suffering and are also offering bonds to whoever can kill Vonruil.

As he comes near a shop, the shop owner comes out and says “Hey, Jason, how many times do I have to tell you to come a little early. You know the other boys can’t lift as much as you. Now go back and get to work. One of them might break his back.”

Yes, after losing everything, Vonruil is now living the life of a commoner Jason who works small jobs to make ends meet. What happened to the once mystic magical angel Warlord Vonruil? Why is he now a commoner? For this we need to go back in time.

Two Decades Ago

Two decades ago life on earth was a bliss. Heaven was literally on the earth. Love, caring and fun was all that everyone knew. Till Demon King Rival descended upon the earth and started attacking the people in their sleep and making their souls devil. Soon chaos erupted and the once blissful earth was now split between good and evil. The evil doers were so bad and powerful, they began to overtake the earth.

Seeing all of this Vonruil called out to his allies Ethor (God of Freedom), Keona (Goddess of Spirits), Xanbis (God of Ice) and Mavros (God of Logic) to fight against Rival. But little did he know they had joined hands with Rival’s henchman Xidan.

Left all alone, Vonruil did not give up and kept fighting till he managed to defeat Rival, but in the last moment of his attack his allies betrayed him and turned everything against him and banished him forever. Even the gods feared him so when they found out he’s been defeated, they feared in rage of revenge he might mis-use his powers so they took his powers away and believed Vonruil would remain hidden.

Or so they thought, but Vonruil managed to escape and came to earth and began to live like a commoner so he could protect the humans in any way possible. But Vonruil was also bearing a pain in his heart. He was engaged to the Goddess of Spring Xania, but she also released an official verdict declaring she has no connection with the fallen warlord, and the fact he had to betray his love for Xania, hurt him more to the extent even though he was alive, he dared not face him.

Now with no home, no friends, no love, no destiny, Vonruil decided to forget all of that and began to live a life as a commoner.

Present

Looking at the owner, Vonruil says “Yes, sir I’ll get going right now.”

As Vonruil goes to the back, on entering the other boys greet him. One little boy with a pale face comes over to Vonruil and says “Jason, did you…”

Before the boy could say anything Vonruil gets down on his knees and says “Here, (vonruil hands him a bun and a packet) and the packet is for lunch.”

Smiling, the boy kisses him on his cheek and runs off.

As the boy leaves, another boy, the same age as Vonruil comes over and hands Vonruil a bun and says “Here, I know you don’t have that much money. You bought him food, now you won’t have any left for yourself.”

Vonruil takes the bun with a feeble smile and says “Lenor, thanks”. (Ever since Vonruil came to the shop, Lenor has been taking care of him like an older brother).

Seeing the other boys gathered, Vonruil says “What’s going on?”

Looking at the boys Lenor says “Oh for no reason a conversation striked about that Vonruil guy. I hope he stays banished forever. (Vonruil flinches a bit on hearing Lenor say that for him, but he knew if Lenor knew the truth, he would never say that). But it’s a fact. Man, what’s the use of being saved when everything has been taken from us. Look at the mess he has given us. Now we are like rats scavenging for life.”

“Lenor, at times even after you lose everything, you still have to live cause you are still breathing.” Vonruil says looking at his own life “Sometimes things are not right or wrong, and at times things don’t make sense, but you have to go on if you want to find out the answers.”

Taking a sigh, Lenor leans against the wall and says “Whatever, nothing can justify Vonruil has ruined our lives.”

Just then the owner shouts “What are you all doing slacking off? Get those bags loaded.”

Getting up Vonruil and the boys say in unison “Yes”.

As Vonruil and Lenor come over, the other boys also come over and make their formation.

Lenor stands on the right side of Vonruil, Teddy (Same age as Vonruil, is a bit chubby) stands on Vonruil’s left as the other boys form a line and then each one of them passes the bag to Lenor and Teddy who raise the bag for Vonruil to lift and load into the container.

As the bags are loaded, Vonruil goes to the side and sits down sweating profusely. A teenage boy comes over and says “Here, (He gives Vonruil water) drink a little, don’t drink too much, you’ll choke, my mom used to say that.”

Hearing the boy say that again, Vonruil says “Your mom really taught you a lot of good things. How is she?”

In a sad tone the boy says “She would have been fine, if she was alive, but thanks to that Vonruil, she’s dead…(The moment Vonruil heard cause of him, his breath stopped for a second).” Continuing, the boy says “If Vonruil had not cast the ice sheet on the sea at that time, my mother would have made it to the shore.”

And so the day passed. On the way back home Vonruil stops by the stall he usually has his dinner at before heading home. As he sits in his usual place, the diner lady comes over and places a plain bowl of soup noodles and says “Jason, sorry but the income is not good so this is all I could make.”

Just then another customer comes and orders food. As the diner lady places a bowl of soup and noodles, the man says “What? Hey, no bread and gravy? And where’s the salad?”

Looking sad the diner lady says “Sorry, but it’s so hard in the market. Those rouges just won’t let you live.”

The man says “Sh**, it’s all cause of that Vonruil. His ally Mavros has taken over the market and keeps on making strange rules, the market people find it difficult to meet. Damn that Vonruil, he should have taken his allies to wherever he ran off to.”

After eating Vonruil gets up, seeing him get up, the diner lady says “The usual bun and packed lunch for morning?”

Vonruil says in a calm tone “Yes.” and places the money and leaves.

As Vonruil leaves, the man notices a scar on Vonruil’s right hand as he places the money and leaves. Seeing the scar, the man says “That’s a nasty scar.”

The diner lady says “What? Oh that, he’s had it from the first day he came here. He told me he got it when he was saving a girl.”

The man points to the money and says “The money…”

The diner lady smiles and says “Yes, it's more than what he ate and will be taking in the morning. But that’s Jason for you. He always worries about others rather than himself. If only he was Vonruil, the world would have been a better place.”

Vonruil was standing at the gate listening to their conversation. As he walks off into the distance, he begins to talk to himself giving a small feeble laugh and says ‘Vonruil is the one who is best where he is, banished and Jason is the one who if, was Vonruil, the world would have been a better place. Man, fact, Vonruil and Jason are me, how can I be banished and be a saviour at the same time? What did I do so wrong in helping them in every way that they betrayed me for Rival? And what’s with the Mavros thing? Oh forget it I’ll go mad soon thinking about this. Just live as Jason and forget everything else’.

As Vonruil enters his home he looks around. Apart from a bed and a chair and a few utensils in the kitchen, his home is empty. Just then a knock on the floor gets his attention. As he opens the door, he sees it’s his neighbor who’s holding an envelope.

The neighbor says “This came for you. I was afraid it might get wet in the rain, (pointing to his broken post box).”

Taking the envelope, Vonruil thanks his neighbor and comes back inside. He sees the envelope but there’s no return address.

As he sits on his bed, he opens the envelope and a key falls out. He picks the key and sees it's a rather peculiar looking key and says ‘Did a far distant warlord uncle leave me his mansion to hide in? Is there anything else (He looks in the envelope), a letter?’

Taking the letter out, he looks at it and says “Wow, the person has beautiful writing”.

The Letter reads:

“Vonruil, this key is the answer to all your questions of despair”

Keeping the letter on the side of the bed, Vonruil picks the key and says “Answer to my questions of despair? Everyone wants me banished, what’s to despair about that? Vonruil doesn’t exist for anyone any more. I lost everything, is that something to despair for? Honestly, this key to me is…no use.”

Getting up Vonruil throws the key on the side table and goes to take a bath. As he comes out he hears voices from the outside and takes a look out of the window and sees a group of people have gathered around three boys.

Vonruil comes out and sees everyone is aiming to hit the boys so he goes over and says “Hey, what’s going on?”

One of the men from the crowd says “They are followers of that Vonruil. They should be dead as well.”

“Followers?” Vonruil asks confused

“Jason, you go to work early and come back home so late.” One of the men says “It’s obvious you won’t know what’s going about. A group of boys are getting back together with Vonruil. Somehow he has managed to come back.”

Shocked on hearing Vonruil is back, considering he himself is Vonruil and is doing no such thing, Vonruil says “What? What do you mean he is back?”

A man goes over to the boys and says “Speak the truth if you guys want to live.”

One of the boys says “Some guys were troubling us. They have been bullying us and always taking our money away. One day we found they were scared of Vonruil, so we began saying that we have met him and soon will be joining him. Since that day they have stopped pestering us. Today, we were passing by and talking about how using his name helped us, this man overheard and started beating us.”

Another boy says crying “If we really knew Vonruil, do you think he would have let you all beat us up like this. Vonruil has a kind heart, he would never let anyone be….”

“The hell he does, if he had a kind heart, would he sell us off to the Rival?” One of the men from the crowd says in an angry tone.

“Let the boys go. Looks like we misunderstood them.” One of the men says “It’s all cause of that Vonruil guy. He’s a curse, see using his name only brought you so much trouble and you say he has a kind heart. If I were Vonruil, after all this, I would not live. As long as he is alive, peace will never be on earth.”

Another man says “Jason, it’s quite late, can the boys stay over at your place for the night. You live alone, so it would be more appropriate.”

Agreeing Vonruil escorts the boys to his home and says “Find a place yourself, this is all I have.”

The boys look around and then one of them says “See, what mess we got into. I told you don’t take that Vonruil’s name.”

Another one says “I told to take his name cause they were afraid of him. I only wanted to save us. I myself don’t like him, it’s cause of him we all are suffering.”

The third one says in a sad tone “If it wasn’t for him, my brother would be here.”

And starts crying. The other boys go over and hug him.

Seeing all of this Vonruil gets up and says “I’m going out for some work, I’ll be back late, so you guys can sleep.”
