Chapter 15

Peter and Sarah were out on their usual daily walk when they were approached by a boy who looked to be younger than either of them. They noticed him even before he said anything, since he looked really out of place.

His skin was quite dark for someone who was living this far up north, this was supplemented by his surprisingly natural looking green hair and feather shaped tattoos along his arms.

In all honesty, Peter thought he looked like more of a gangster than anyone he had to deal with before, but instead of picking a fight the boy just seemed to be weird and kind of shy.

"Wanna hang out?"

He said, losing all of his confidence midway through the short sentence. The siblings didn't really feel like they were dealing with a bad person so they decided to just play along.

The trio slowly walked towards a nearby park, and when they arrived they sat down around a table. Peter couldn't help his curiosity and decided to check up on the friendly kid.

"You are …"

All three of them started to speak in unison but they stopped almost immediately. It looked like Peter wasn't the only one who was curious.

Awkward silence followed as none of them expected things to turn out this way. The silence was finally broken by the newcomer whose nerves got to him so he decided to just come clean.

"My name's Manda Drage and my mom asked me to be friends with you."

This was a lot of new information at once but instead of thinking it over Peter continued the conversation.

"Why did she ask you to befriend us?"

"No, she asked me to talk to just you. It's because of your job."

This was all of the information he needed. He sort of had an idea about who Manda's mother was when he introduced himself. Helen was the most wanted person in town and one of the few who still had actual wanted posters.

The only question left was whether they wanted to cause trouble, or maybe try to lure them into a trap. At that moment it seemed unlikely, since the boy in front of them was way too honest for someone who wanted to set a trap.

"You have a job?!"

Sarah's sudden interjection made Peter realize that his secret was partially uncovered. Thinking that the situation could only get worse for him, he decided to get things over with as soon as possible.

"Can we continue this at your house?"

Manda was ecstatic inside. He genuinely wanted to be friends with the twins, especially after realizing they were like him, so he agreed without hesitation.

With Manda in the lead they started going back the way they came, then they went further. They walked past the Williams family house and stopped right next to it. Turns out the twins were neighbors with a gang leader for the past week without knowing it.

The house had a similar design to their own but it was somewhat larger and had a lot more signs of people actually living there. The family house had a problem with this since they barely had any personal items.

Standing in front of the door there was a slight pause in the steps of the two guests.

[Caution is advised.]

This was the second time ever they got a message like that and their shock was clearly visible. Manda figured out what happened after a short while and he started desperately reassuring his new friends.

When they finally gathered their courage to go in, the lady of the house welcomed them with unexpected delight.

"Wow, that was fast! You're already this close?"

Peter was expecting a much colder atmosphere, but that didn't mean he was completely trusting. He checked Helen just in case they needed to get away.

The last message was completely new, and he wasn't sure what to make of it. Setting that aside, he was somewhat relieved because based on the abilities, if there was trouble it wouldn't be a physical one.

"Good afternoon ma'am, my name is Peter Williams and this is my sister Sarah."

He tried to be polite to hopefully increase their chances of getting away. After introductions were over, they could get to the point of the visit.

"Could we talk? Just the two of us."

The gang leader understood what he meant and her response sounded a little dejected.

"So you know. Fine, we can talk in my office."

Sarah and Manda were left alone in the lobby while they went up to the second floor where Helen's office was. They sat down on the opposite sides of her table.

"You two are quite interesting, my ability doesn't work on either of you."

Peter didn't know what to say in response. The only thing he could think of was asking for clarification.

"How so?"

"I can't see your future."
