S2E47 - The Horrors of Humanity

"OH FU-!"

*BOOM!*

I rip open the door with my rifle up, ready to gun down anybody we see. Through the dust, I see a total of three guys all lying on the ground with minimal movements. I hear one of them making a snoring sound, but the other two are moaning in pain. One of them turns around to face us and goes to lift up his rifle, only to find a 7.62 round surgically implanted into his skull.

I hastily pop a round into the other two as well, finishing them off.

[Humans killed x3 - 300p]

[1020p]

Very quickly, Shane and I find out that we're not alone in the building as from the left, towards the storage of the meds, a couple shots ring out, ripping by us.

"SHIT!"

Shane can't help but yell out as one narrowly misses him, grazing his cheek. I duck forwards, towards the shelves in front of us. As I get behind the shelves, bullets begin to rip through those as well, so I continue on, reaching the body of one of the guys we killed.

I grab the corpse and pull it over me, hoping that it'll stop any bullets from hitting me. Luckily, it seems the group firing at us has to reload. I notice that this guy was using an Ak-47, so I pick it up with an extra mag and sling my DMR over my shoulder. I get up and sprint over towards where this guy was shooting at us from.

I reach the door that the guy was firing at us from, and find it closed. As I twist the knob, I notice that it's locked just in time for the guy to start firing through it. Shane reaches the other side of the door as I get fed up with this. So, I do what's only reasonable.

I take the AK and fire through the wall, not knowing what's on the other side. As the gun fires rapidly, I get a few notifications letting me know that I am indeed getting kills. But… This is way too much for just a small group of raiders…

By the time I run out of ammo, more shots ring out from behind the door, prompting me to grab the other mag and dump it through the wall and door as well. When that mag is finished, all goes quiet. Then, I look at the messages that popped up…

[Humans killed x7 - 610p]

[1630p]

That makes no sense… Each human I've fought has been worth 100p. Was there a walker or something? No, those are counted differently.

After waiting a few seconds and hearing nothing, Shane and I get ready to go through the door. Andrea and Gerard come up behind us, watching the back door. I give Shane a nod and walk up to the door before giving it a solid kick, ripping it off its hinges…

"O-oh… Fuck…"

Inside the room is a barricade. Hastily thrown together using tables and chairs. Nothing that could stop most bullets… But there's another barricade in front of this one…

Lying, face down on the ground… Is a family. A man, woman, and three children… All dead… Two of the kids look like they were well into their teenage years… But one of them, a little girl, only looks to be about eight…

"Oh…"

I start to feel light headed as I look down at the little girl, her arms tied behind her back with blood dripping from her forehead. My blood runs cold, and my hands begin to shake. I drop the gun in my hands and stumble backwards as I start to hear a ringing sound, only to be caught by Shane. I look down at my hands, finding them to be covered in blood… I don't even know when they were… I stumble over my words,

"I-I… Wh-…Huh…"

I feel my heart begin to beat wildly as I stare down at the girl I killed. I did that… I robbed a family of their lives. I didn't even notice the man standing up from behind the barricade with a gun drawn. I'm rocked back to reality as the suppressed sound of gunfire rings through the room. I fall to my knees and look down at my hands, imagining how those people must have felt. Being used like they were shields.

Tears begin to stream down my face, causing my vision to become blurred. I continue to stare down, and slowly look back up at the family.

As I stare, a different feeling begins to well up inside me. My face begins to heat up, and I clench my fist. An unbridled rage bubbles over, just in time for another of the doors to the room swings open. I quickly draw my pistol, before the door is even fully open.

[Pistol drawn. Deadeye active.]

Time begins to slow down as the man behind the door comes into vision with a pistol drawn. I hurriedly aim it at him, pulling the trigger as he comes into the room. Time begins to run normally again as he falls over, and I feel a slight amount of exhaustion build up in me.

I stand up and walk over to the guy I just shot, putting another round in his head. We're getting rid of these guys. I speak to the group with venom lacing my voice,

"I'm gonna kill all of them. You guys can stay here and take cover, but creatures like this don't deserve to stay alive."

Shane, Andrea, and Gerard all look at each other before Shane shrugs his shoulders and says,

"Well, if they're willing to use a family as a human shield, who knows what these guys would do to our group. Plus, those executions out there as well. Might be for the best."

Andrea sighs and says,

"I'm not the best shot yet, but I'll help as well."

Gerard looks to be the most hesitant as he sits there for a while, before taking a glance at the family. He then looks up towards the roof and lets out a sigh,

"Haaaah… God dammit. Alright, I'm in. I'm down to play a little bit of exterminator."
