005: Prepared?

The bustling sounds of cars speeding along the road could be heard outside after going outside and leaving the building behind him.

It was the same scenery that greeted Levi yesterday at the airport. The loud noises were rather unpleasant. A few honking cars even made themselves important for various reasons.

Levi could only sigh at the behavior that never changed in urban metropoles wherever one visited even if that place was about half the planet away.

He was never really a fan of highly urban cities. It just annoyed him. And outside the US it tended to be more packed than even New York.

So after having finished his business meeting here he pulled out his phone again and turned it on. And soon after he could hear it ringing when he placed it back into his pockets.

"Give me a break..."

He reached back into his pockets and answered the call.

With the phone placed at his ear, he was already opening a car that stood at the ready for him. It was the taxi that was ordered for him just a moment ago by the receptionist when he asked for one.

Taking a seat with his suitcase placed near him he started speaking after closing the door.

"Hey, Sarah. So what's it this time?" He asked in English and could already see the driver of the cab looking at him through the rear mirror.

"To this hotel, please." This time he said it in fluent Korean and reached out with a card in his hand.

The driver only nodded at him after taking the card with the address on it and started driving.

Focusing back at his partner on the other side of the phone he looked outside the car window.

"We got a little bit of a problem with a few people misusing your benefits lately, sir."

Levi frowned. "You know how I feel about the sir thing. Just use my name already. It makes me feel old. Anyway, is this about the paternal leave vacations?"

He was not completely clueless. There were noticeable amounts of people going on vacations after having had newborns. She already had asked him about this once. So he figured she was asking about it again.

"The costs in our human resource department are increasing explosively....Should we keep the wage increase per child active? Isn't it rather unreasonable?"

Levi chuckled. "It's fine. It will be a boon to us in the future. More loyal personnel, future workers. I like it that way..."

The real reason he made these incredibly costly social benefits for his employees was so that they would proliferate as soon as possible. Everything he did was so that the preparation of an incoming doomsday was as good as it could be.

The most important resource were human lives after all. He would go insane otherwise if he ended up in a world where there were little to no humans. It even already drew him insane by not being able to figure out what exactly is going to happen.

And he tried finding out, but remained without real progress. There were a few tensions between countries indicating a nuclear katstrophe, then through his mother he noticed that a few medical companies were ramping up vaccine research after finding a new virus.

So the likelihood of a new pest breaking out was also high. Considering that one disease from his old life, it also made sense

The thing he hoped that would not happen was something celestial or otherwise massively dangerous that he could not handle at all. No matter what the preparation was.

"But together with the massive expenses for our Orion project last month it puts the company in a dire situation. The numbers are close to running into the red..."

As if on queue, Sarah mentioned those preparations. Orion was that project he wanted to succeed in regard to a space invasion. But maybe he was already just getting too paranoid with his thoughts running wild.

Though, he was also sure that escaping to space was pretty much out of the question anyway. The time would already run out by the time the clock hits zero. And the amount of people would be marginal that a survival of the race is doomed.

Hence the benefits he placed for his employees to just go apeshit in fucking and getting a lot of children.

Who knows, maybe that will be beneficial later. There have been a few hundred or so births in the last 2 years.

As he mentioned, he made incredible progress in the last 3.5 years ever since he started all of this, but one way or another, there were limits that only time could solve. And he didn't have that luxury. He only had a little bit less than 2 years remaining.

Come to mention that project. It was his try to make the human race a spacefaring one. But they only managed to make rockets more efficient and able to return safely to Earth again for now.

Like a certain company managed in his old life. Yes, he was talking about SpaceX.

"They are? Alright, I will transfer a reasonable amount to the company account later. That should bring us back on track."

He had immense amounts of money by now. Some small hiccups would not stop him.

Truthfully speaking he could afford such projects tens of times and not run out of cash. There were a few other such projects pertaining certain themes.

And the more he traveled and spun his economic web with the governments of this world, the more he became a monster moneywise.

Even Scrooch McDuck would not be able to come close to swimming in money.

"..." He could hear a faint sigh from Sarah which brought a small smile to his face.

"How about you finally settle down a little bit as well? Try to relax more, can't have my most important employee exhausting herself."

"If I did that, everything would fall apart here."

"True, I guess. Anyway, I will end the call now. Just let the people do what they like. It won't make too many problems." Even if, the time was narrow enough that he didn't really care about petty assholes trying to con him.

"Alright, later then." With that she ended the call and he put his phone back into his pocket. But not without noticing the good connection he had.

"Looks like the special satellites that were shot up by us make a whole difference in the mobile electronics development.", he murmured lightly.

Just sighing he relaxed some more since it was still some time when he would board the train to the next city to hit the airport again.
