Chapter 70 Expanding

The next day when John woke up, he looked at his watch. It was 8:30 am, John sat up and saw that all his ladies were sleeping. John got out of bed slowly, then he walked over to the cribs and saw that the kids were still sleeping as well.

John walked out of the room after he covered Joey back up, the little rascal loved to uncover himself. John walked through the hall and made his way to the exit. Opening the door, John was greeted by a blue sky and beautiful sunshine.

Some people were walking around and doing some chores, everyone here had a certain job. There was also quite a bit of leeway when it came to the jobs they did. As long as the job contributed to the group, they were allowed to do anything.

Some of the jobs around camp were fence duty, basically you kill any walkers that come to the fence. The there was different household jobs, such as cooking, cleaning.

There was the caretaker job, these people would keep an eye on the kids and make sure they were well taken care of. There were farmers who tended to the farm and then there was the livestock caretakers or even butchers.

There were also many other jobs that were important to the group. One man knew how to make ammo for the guns so that was immediately made his job. John did a check on this man thoroughly, anytime this man did anything, John knew.

John's first group of Androids were not only integrated into the group but they watched each and every person closely. If they saw anything suspicious, they would immediately report to John. If the situation was serious enough they were ordered to eliminate that threat.

They only left that group of guards leave because the guards had left peacefully and didn't make a scene. John didn't blame them either because his orders weren't complicated enough. However, this was changed when John came back to the prison with the other Androids.

John had a safety protocol in effect that if any threat to his family was seen, they would immediately execute that person. It didn't matter who they were, even if it was Rick the Androids would not hesitate.

Anyway, John walked over to Rick, who was sitting with Carl and Judith. Michonne was also sitting nearby and they were all enjoying themselves. John sat down next to Rick and started to eat some cupcakes he had stashed away. Carl looked over at John, his eyes begging for a cupcake.

John sighed and gave Carl one of his cupcakes. John said, "You owe me kid." Carl nodded his head as he smiled in victory.

John looked over at Rick and said, "Hey Rick, after breakfast let's gather some workers and get started on expanding."

Rick nodded saying, "Yeah let's get this project started. I was thinking, we should set up a radio tower. Then we can have better contact with any scavenger groups."

John nodded and said, "Great idea. We need to be careful, there could be hostile groups around. It would be good if they could call for back up."

Rick said, "We need this place to stay around for a very long time."

John said, "Rick, we don't need this place. We could survive fine out there. This is just to get things back to how they need to be. Just because this place is secure doesn't mean it always will be."

Rick sighed and said, "You're right, but this place is the hope for mankind."

John nodded and then ate the rest of his cupcakes. Carl tried to grab another but John shoved them all in his mouth, filling his cheeks like a squirrel. Carl put his head down in defeat as John smirked at him.

When Rick had finished with his family, he followed John around. John was recruiting people for his workforce. John gathered all his Androids, there was thirty of them. John had also gather 30 men and women from the group to help with the expansion.

John started to show them his plans, he said, "Alright everyone, thank you for volunteering. The plan is to dig a long trench where the fence will be put. Half of you will be working on cutting up a train car to get the materials for the fence and the other half will be digging the trench. In a week, we may take some of you from each group and have you work on building a radio tower. Any questions?"

A man asked, "Why the hurry to expand?"

John smiled and said, "No worry, it's just that some residents feel cramped living in the prison. We are trying to accommodate them."

Another man asked, "Is that the only benefit?"

John shook his head and said, "No we want to expand the farm some more so that we can be fully self sufficient. It is the last thing we need to take care of."

The man nodded and kept quiet. Seeing this John asked, "Any more questions?" Everyone kept silent so John split the group in half and put 15 Androids with 15 humans in each group. John then assigned each group there task and they started to head off and start.

John watched them go off with a smile. His family came over and started to greet him. John then walked with them over to a table and watched them eat as he fed Joey a bottle.

John stayed with them for about an hour before he left them. He walked over to the gate after he grabbed his sword. John walked through the gate and the area was pretty clear of any walkers.

There were only about 20 walkers in the immediate area, the rest of them were spread out in the field. John walked over to where the men were working on the trench. John killed all the walker that came towards him, striking fast and viciously. The walkers stood no chance at all.

When John arrived near the men he saw they were digging and they had already made a little progress. Having 30 people digging at the same time helped speed things along. It also helped that the Androids never grew tired.

John looked around and saw that a 3 foot trench had been dug for about 45 feet. John nodded in acknowledgement, as he praised the workers. John picked a shovel and began to dig as well.

After about 4 hours, John stopped and said farewell. Then he jogged back to the prison and met up with his family. When Amy saw him covered in mud she wiped his face with a wet cloth before she kissed his cheek.

John smiled and sat down with them, he ate some lunch with them. They were eating some roast beef sandwiches. The bread was home made and John fell in love. He said, "I need to marry whoever made this."

Alicia smiled and said, "Is that a proposal?"

John nodded and said, "Who made it?" Amy walked over and kissed his cheek.

John said, "Oh, my mother hen made these. Such a good wife." John then kissed her quickly before he backed away. Amy smiled as she held Cassy.

John then spent a couple of hours with his family before he left once again. This time he was headed for the other group, near the train tracks. John hopped in his car, but Carl and and Rob came over and asked, "Can we come?"

John said, "Sure, you asked you dad, right Carl?" Carl nodded and then both got in as the car. John drove out of the gate and started driving towards the track, but he was stopped by Carl and Rob. They asked at the same time, "Can we drive, just for a little while?"

John was about to refuse, but he saw their pleading faces. John sighed heavily before he said, "Fine, but only for a while and don't be driving crazy." John then hopped out and sliced a walker that came towards him as Rob got into the driver's seat.

John sat in the passenger side and said, "Alright, hands ten and two, put your foot on the brake and shift gears before you slowly press the gas." Rob nodded and followed John's words and slowly pressed the accelerator.

However, he slammed on the brakes because the car shot forward and he got nervous. John thought, 'I'm going to regret doing this.'

John then said, "It's alright, no big deal. Now you know how it feels to start, try again." Rob took a breath before he tried again this time pressing the gas even lighter than before. The car still shot off, but he was ready this time so he nervously looked forward and John taught him some more as they kept going forward.

When they came to a turn, John said, "Alright, now press the brake lightly to slow down as you turn down this road." Rob nodded and he did the turn although it was a little awkward. John let Rob drive for about 20 minutes before he had him switch with Carl.

Carl who had been learning while in the backseat from Rob's first try, slowly pressed the accelerator and felt the car jerked forward. Carl kept calm and looked forward as they went down the road. Carl feeling confident sped up a little going 40 before John told him to cool it.

John didn't want his baby to get fucked up again. The Androids had just fixed it fully, a couple weeks ago.
