Chapter Fourteen: The Eve of Exams/New Member

It had been a gruelling week studying under Sensei Nakano, but Bodhi had somehow survived the torturous teaching. For better or worse he was at least competent enough to get a passing grade on the upcoming Japanese Literature exam.

 …

As long as there weren't too many Katakana and Kanji questions. He still struggled a bit with those. But! His hiragana was up to par for a student of his year, so he just had to hope and pray for the best.

"With this last lesson, you should have a not zero chance at passing the Lit exam. I wish you the best of luck pupil Hamada," Hana said, bowing to him.

"Thank you, Sensei Nakano. I will strive to put your teachings to good use," Bodhi replied bowing even deeper to the girl across from him.

Being their last lesson together also meant that the peer tutoring club was now abolished and no more, meaning Hana had to find a new club. And she had absolutely no clue what she was going to do.

She hadn't really any hobbies besides that of studying and organizing, a habit she may have picked up from her family's flower shop.

 Nakano's Flower's

 Original, she knows.

But the point still stood, Hana had been making bouquets ever since she was little and took great pride in organizing the flowers into beautiful eye-catching arrangements. Did you need one for a birthday? She would personalize the bouquet to match the person the buyer was getting them for and would even include a card detailing what each flower meant. Valentine's Day or White Day, Anniversaries? She had that shit on lock. She had easily helped dozens of people get together and saved just as many, if not more, couples from breaking up because one or both forgot about their anniversary.

Hana Nakano, florist and relationship saver extraordinaire.

Sadly, there was no garden club or any of the like meaning she would have to settle for something that wouldn't feel right or give her a purpose.

Her afternoons were going to just be drag from now on.

Bodhi, however, was unaware of her internal dilemma of a pitiful high school existence after she was done tutoring him and just barged on ahead saying what was on his mind.

"Man Nakano, although you made my life hell this past week, I gotta say, it never felt too much ya know? Your schedules were great at keeping me on task I ain't gonna lie," Bodhi began, before stopping himself and collecting his thoughts.

He just came up with a fantastic idea.

"Hey, if I were to give you a bunch of stuff about me and what I needed to do, would be able to make me a schedule for it? I'll pay you if you want," Bodhi asked.

"Huh? Were they really that helpful? You were complaining about it every chance you got!" Hana told him. Seriously, he had been complaining the entire week to Kunimi about how 'hellish' her study schedule was. She nearly quit being his tutor for such a blatant attitude.

"Well of course I complained! But it still doesn't take away the fact that it made everything so much more…manageable? Yeah, that! It would be a really big help," Bodhi asked yet again, clasping his hands in prayer that she would accept.

"…sigh. Fine, I guess I could make you one. It's not like it'll be any harder than the one I made for you earlier," Hana accepted. She had some free time now after all. No club and all that.

"Awesome! So, I made a list of everything I do every day and roughly how long it takes me, you'd need that info right?" Bodhi questioned, pulling out a folder with tabs going along the outside, labelled Monday through Sunday.

"…You assumed I would say yes, didn't you? Awfully presumptuous of you Hamada…" Hana replied dead eyed. But took the folder anyways, she was curious as to what he got up to outside of when she was tuto- WHAT THE HELL!?

Hana's eyes kept getting progressively wider as she kept reading. Each day was packed full of working out, practicing, and homework, on repeat. Each day seemed to alternate with different forms of working out. Upper body, lower body, core, and legs, it alternated between them all. And each day either had a 10km run or a 45-minute bike ride on it.

"Yeah, a bit dry, eh? It's a bummer I haven't found anywhere I can swim yet. My Friday workouts normally had a 1000km swim," Bodhi sighed.

"…You do this every day!? That's insane!" Hana yelled.

"QUIET!!" Mrs. Fuji yelled from the front of the library, her voice easily carrying through the stacks.

"Shhh! I don't want to get in trouble!" Bodhi whisper-yelled. "And yeah of course I do mate! I'm an athlete first and foremost and I do what I have to do to become the very best," Bodhi said. "I do take Saturdays and Sundays off for the most part, only doing technique and a little run those days,"

Like that made much of a difference Hana thought to herself. But she couldn't help but notice that most of what he was asking her to do was already done, it just needed to be organized. Easier job for her she surmised.

"Well, you've done most of it just by giving me the information. But I'll still organize it for you Hamada." Hana told him, walking past Mrs. Fuji bowing an apology as she did.

"Awesome!" Bodhi cheered, giving Mrs. Fuji a high five as he passed by.

The pair had made it outside to the bike shelter where Bodhi's ride awaited him and where the two would bid farewell.

"You know what Nakano? I'm truly grateful to ya. Without you, I would have surely missed out on the training camp, so what I'm trying to say is thank you," Bodhi said. Bowing respectfully to her.

Hana was taken aback momentarily. Although she didn't really know Bodhi all that well she could tell it was genuine. Smiling back at him she responded, "You're very welcome, Hamada."

"Sweet! Anyway, good luck with your exams! Bummer we won't be able to hang out as much. If only you could join the volleyball club!" Bodhi chuckled to himself, starting his bike up and revving it away. "See ya!"

Hana stared at his back as he drove off. She couldn't lie, she too enjoyed the time spent tutoring Bodhi, he was a big pain in the ass most of the time, but he put his all into her teachings, and being able to put 110% into anything one set their mind to was something to be admired for. Maybe one day she could put her all into something? She had to find that something though, so with a sigh she turned and began her walk home, but something Bodhi said kept nagging at the back of her head.

"…if only you could join the volleyball club!"

 Now wasn't that a thought?

She needed a new club after all.

Author's Note:

Sup people!

Two things. One this chapter was initially longer but I shortened it due to me not liking what I wrote. I do that more often than should.

I think I should have more faith in myself. Maybe.

Who knows?

Second thing, my summer job ends this Friday meaning I'll be able to write some more over the weekend and next week. So expect the next chapter either Monday or Tuesday.

Training camp arc will start too! bout time I got into that.

An unexpected Kiyoko encounter as well? Maybe you guys will eat well.

That's it for now!
