My Husband's Lover (13)

"What happened?" Guoliang asked when he saw Liqin carrying me.

But Liqin ignored him. He just walked past him and carefully put me down.

It was already evening and the tents were set up. Guowei was somewhere looking for wood.

Guoliang ran beside me and asked again, "What happened?"

"Just two legs becoming tired after minutes of walking," I explained.

"Let me massage your legs."

"Guoliang," Liqin interrupted. "Yanyu is your brother's wife. You cannot just touch a matried woman like that."

"Guowei would not mind. He even encouraged me awhile ago to pursue Yanyu."

"You still cannot do that. It is against the law of the heavens. And your brother asked me to tell you to help him gather the woods. We met him on our way."

Guoliang immediately ran somewhere. I looked at Liqin suspiciously.

"What?"

"As far as I can remember, we met no one on our way here."

Liqin cleared his throat. "Give me your legs. I am going to help you massage them." He sat beside me.

"I never knew you were a liar, Liqin. You were so natural."

"Just give me your legs."

"Do you want me to cut them off?"

He forcefully but carefully place my right leg on his lap.

"Liqin, I'm your friend's wife. You can't just touch a married woman like that," I teased.

He put more strength on his hands which caused me to shout in pain.

"Hey! Do it gently."

"If you keep on talking nonsense, you are going to feel something more painful."

"I wasn't talking nonsense. I wa- Hey!"

"I already warned you."

I kept quiet while Liqin massaged me. Even though I wanted to talk, I did not because I could not risk feeling something more painful as Liqin said.

Thinking about it, everything was too dramatic. It would have been understandable if I was injured but I was not. It was just minutes of walking then Liqin carried me the rest of the time. Was this body so frail?

I hated walking, but my original body could hold out an hour of walking. I even joined a marathon because of our PE class.

Nothing happened much until midnight. I was awoken by the sound of Liqin and Guowei arguing. I peeped outside and saw that Guoliang was there too.

"I knew it. You always told me you want to visit my hometown. Is it really my hometown that you want to visit or my brother?" Guowei was angry.

"Guowei, I am not kind of person. You know that."

"Tell me why I should believe the words of a cheat."

It was ironic hearing those words coming from someone who was a cheat himself.

"Because I am not a cheat. When are you going to believe me? It is still the same when I was framed."

"But you are not being framed right now, Liqin. I saw you. You were about to go inside Guoliang's tent. Had I not interfered, what things could you have possibly done behind my back?"

"Even if you did not interfere, I still would not have done things."

Guowei looked at Guoliang. "So how did it feel to fool your brother? You made think you were in love with Yanyu when you had been having secret affairs with Liqin."

"Guowei, we did not do anything," Guoliang said. "And why should you be this affected if we really did something?"

Guowei stopped shouting. I stepped out of the tent and all three looked at me.

"Guowei, they were not doing anything behind your back. I asked Liqin to help me. After spending the whole morning together, I had fallen in love with your brother. I told Liqin about this and he was willing to help me," I said.

He believed me. Realizing his mistake, Guowei went back to his tent. He could have said sorry first before going back in. He accused Liqin of cheating.

"So that's it for tonight's show. Let's go back to sleep," I said while turning around.

I was about to go back inside my tent when Guoliang grabbed my left hand. "Is it true?" he asked.

"True what?"

"That you love me."

Guoliang had an anticipating look. When I looked at Liqin, he had the same expression.

"I guess so?"

Guoliang broke into a big smile. "I love you too, Yanyu."

Liqin stood between us and faced Guoliang. "Yanyu is your brother's wife. This is against the law of the heavens."

"Then I will gladly be a sinner. Surely you have broken the law of the heavens just for the sake of love." Guoliang smiled even bigger. "Thank you, Liqin. I did not know you were helping Yanyu. Because of your actions, I thought you were trying to break us apart. My judgment was wrong. You are a good man."

Guowei faced me and said, "You are welcome. But all credits go to Yanyu. I did not know she was in love with you."

He left. As he walked away, I wanted to chase after him. He looked sad. It was as if I had to explain to him that I did not feel that way towards Guoliang.

When I was about to enter their tent, I saw Guowei and Liqin's silhouettes. They were hugging.

Silly me. Why did I think I had to explain? Liqin was sad because of Guowei. He would never be sad because of me. I was not too important for him to be affected. After all, I was just his rival.
