Rain paused and the atmosphere seemed to darken and turn colder instantly.
Suddenly, her eyes widened and she shrieked without thinking, "Derek, behind you!"
At first, Rain had hazily seen the still shadow of a gigantic figure looming beside the doorway to the attic. Of course she hadn't thought farther than the formless shadow being a reflection from an object, but when the reflection moved away from the darkness to reveal its hideous silhouette, Rain realized too late that it wasn't just a shadow.
Subconsciously, she garnered all her strength and tried to pull her master to the side. But as soon as she could've still failed to shift him an inch, like greased lightning, she was slickly carried off to the farther end of the corridor.
Derek furrowed his brows and looked down on the girl in his arms confusingly. "You called me by my name?"
