The Man Who Committed 99 Crimes

"Your majesty! Yin Yu committed yet another notorious crime. This is the 99th time already!"

"According to the rules of heaven, he should have already been punished deep in the fire pits of hell long ago. Why is he still here?"

"Your majesty! Please bring justice to us all!"

A man with an appearance like that of someone in their twenties, wearing that of a golden robe was sitting on the throne while listening to all the complaints coming from the other gods in this large jade room.

He asked slowly to the woman who sat beside him, "Lanfen. What do you think we should do?"

Lai Lanfen wore beautiful gold accessories and hairpins on her hair and a golden robe similar to his. She looked at him and didn't know what to reply to him with.

Hearing no response, he continued, "The thousand death valley sounds good."

"No!"

Without realizing it, she had already blurted it out. Lai Lanfen quickly shut her mouth and looked down, not daring to face him.

He looked at her with a little trace of disapproval. "No?"

Lai Lanfen felt bitter. She complained inside, 'Isn't that your own nephew? The thousand death valley is a hundred times more worse than the deep fire pit in hell.''

Yin Shufeng didn't continue to make things hard for Lai Lanfen. He looked down at where the other gods are at and asked, "Where's Yin Yu?"

"Replying to your majesty, the last time Yin Yu was seen was at the Misty Lotus Pond."

"Bring him here."

"This uhhh…" One of the gods hesitated.

"What. You can't even bring back a brat who's hundreds of thousands of years younger than you?" Yin Shufeng's tone became colder instantly.

Just right as Yin Shufeng finished saying his words, there was a bang as the large iron door was opened forcefully. A couple of servants that were guarding from outside were thrown inside as they hit the floor hard and passed out with blood trickling out of their mouth.

The gods in the room were shocked. They all look towards the main culprit who dares to act so ruthless in front of so many important figures in heaven.

A young man who wore a dark black robe walked slowly into the jade room from the entrance. He had an elegant demeanor that's hard to ignore and even without smiling, his outstanding handsome appearance can make anyone envy him.

As the young man stopped right in front of Yin Shufeng, Yin Shufeng looked at the young man's face as he narrowed his eyes slightly. "Yin Yu."

'He looks too much like her.'

Just thinking that made Yin Shufeng displeased.

Yin Yu raised his chin slightly to look at Yin Shufeng. "Just as you want, I'm here now."

Yin Shufeng sneered. "Do you know your mistakes?"

Yin Yu replied to the question with another question. "Do you know my mistakes?"

"You dare!" Yin Shufeng angrily shouted, "Have we ever treated you unfairly? Yet you continue to act rebellious and commit crime after crime!"

Yin Yu only kept silent. He knew. Even if he were to say something right now, it'll only be a waste of saliva in front of Yin Shufeng.

The other gods in the room started to talk amongst each other.

"Yin Yu is a disappointment as "that" person's son. I wouldn't want such a son either."

"Hmph. Isn't that why his parents left? They didn't want to acknowledge him as their son."

"He should just leave! Nobody wants him here either!"

"Your majesty!" A god in a purple robe stepped forward. He cupped his fist and said, "Yin Yu is of bad character and bad influence. I suggest we use the most severe punishment in heaven!"

The other gods also stepped forward to agree. Everyone wanted Yin Yu to suffer and pay for what he's done!

Except for one of the higher rank gods in the room, Ping Qi.

Ping Qi stood up from his spot and said, "Your majesty. Although what the other gods are saying is true, we cannot forget one important factor. Yin Yu plays a major role in the near future. Instead of a punishment that'll likely interfere with heaven's will, why not send Yin Yu to the mortal realm to collect the core of sins from mortals to cleanse his own sins from crimes he committed?"

Yin Shufeng was pleased when he finally heard what he'd been waiting for. He asked Yin Yu, "What do you think?"

All this time, Yin Yu had been quiet and unbothered by others. He only came for one purpose. Since there's an opportunity, he naturally won't refuse it.

"I'll do it."

"Good." Yin Shufeng announced, "Yin Yu has committed 99 crimes in heaven. With each crime committed, a new sin is born. He is to go to the mortal realm and find all 99 cores of sins from 99 mortals that committed the same crimes as his in order to cleanse his own sins. During his journey, he must abide by three rules. First, he is not allowed to hurt the innocents. Second, he cannot reveal his identity as a god. And last of all, he is not to play the role of a villain in the eyes of the public. If any one of them is broken, his journey will end and he will be punished accordingly to the rules of heaven. That is all. Dismissed!"

Yin Yu looked at the portal of heaven and earth in front of him. Just one more step and he'll be transported to the mortal realm. But, before he took that step, somebody called out to him.

"Yin Yu!"

A girl in a pink hanfu dress came running towards Yin Yu. But, just before she reaches him, the two guards guarding the portal of heaven and earth stepped forward to stand in her way.

Yin Yu only took a glance at her before turning towards the portal again. Without another second to waste, he stepped forward and his figure vanished instantly.

Yin Mei Xing's eyes widened. "Yin Yu! You heartless bastard! Left without saying any goodbyes!"

"Mei Xing."

Yin Mei Xing turned back and saw Lai Lanfen. She ran straight into Lai Lanfen's embrace and hugged Lai Lanfen as she complained. "Mother! Yin Yu is too much! How could he treat me so coldly? Aren't we cousins?"

Lai Lanfen patted her own daughter's back. "How many times have I told you to not associate with Yin Yu? Your father won't be too happy if he knows what you are doing behind his back."

Yin Mei Xing pouted. "So what? I can associate with whoever I want. Besides, Yin Yu has never hurt me before. He even-"

"Mei Xing!" Lai Lanfen interrupted her.

Yin Mei Xing could only close her mouth. But, inside she swore, 'Yin Yu! Just you wait until the next time we meet. I won't be so easy to you by then!'

Meanwhile, Yin Yu was already transported to the mortal realm.

The mortal realm is way different than in heaven. Even in such a foreign environment, he is still able to maintain his calm.

Currently, he has been transported to an empty alleyway. Except, it isn't entirely empty.

In front of him is a corpse that seems to be one that has been murdered not just too long ago. On the chest of the corpse is a dagger. Not only that, the clothes look disheveled as if the culprit was searching for something.

"Robbed and then killed." Yin Yu's mouth curved into a slight smile.

"Seriously, why is the meeting place in such a desolate alleyway?"

Hearing that that person is getting closer and closer to where he was at, Yin Yu quietly walked to a dark corner where nobody could see him and hid there.

A moment later, a man in ragged clothes and in his early twenties came over. When he saw the corpse on the ground in front of him, he was horrified. Falling to the ground with widened eyes, he tried to scream but his voice was stuck in his throat.

Just then, a dozen more footsteps could be heard coming his way. Someone shouted, "Jiao Kang! How dare you commit murder in broad daylight!"

Immediately after that, a woman started to sob loudly as she knelt down in front of her dead husband. "Dear! Dear, open your eyes!!! Don't leave me! What will I do without you?"

"Jiao Kang! Explain yourself!"

"You bastard! Why did you kill Lord Si?!"

"N-No! I didn't kill him!"

Jiao Kang was shocked and horrified. He was so scared that he began to tremble. "I really didn't kill him! Trust me!"

"Bullsh*t! Do you think we are blind or what?! Men, take him to court!"

"No. No!!!" Jiao Kang started to struggle. But, with one man against 2 strong men, he just couldn't break free and was dragged away.

Yin Yu watched all of this happen in a corner. He wasn't paying attention to Jiao Kang but instead, the people who came after Jiao Kang. Especially someone amidst one of them.
