Part 4

Part 4- Dungeon

After that incident, the guards became stricter. I was careful about my speed and behavior. I don't plan to go down the same path as that man.

Creak-!

The little kid and I were placed along with five other tributes in the same cell.

Finally, I can bring this kid down. My arms were a little numb from carrying the kid all the way down here.

I didn't make it obvious that my arms were aching.

"Thank you, brother."

The little kid smiled at me shyly. I reciprocated his thanks with a smile.

"No problem. Are your feet fine now?"

"Yes, yes. It doesn't ache anymore."

"Good, good." I ruffled his hair gently, earning a quiet chuckle from him.

While the little kid and I were having a world of our own, the men sharing the same cell as us threw a curious question all of a sudden.

"Is he your little brother?"

Fortunately, I wasn't too absorbed in our little talk.

I turned my head toward the man who had just spoken and smiled politely, ".. no, we're not related to each other."

"I see," the man who seemed to be in 40s nodded in understanding.

"No wonder you look nothing alike at all."

It seems to be a polite reply, so I just responded with a hum. I'm a little relieved that my cellmates are kind and polite to us.

The man didn't pursue the conversation, letting me mind my own business.

I tried to recall the events in the novel which I read 16 years ago.

I could only remember the important details such as the main characters' appearance and first names, but the rest are as hazy as fog.

Damn, who would've thought that my fate as an extra is unchangeable!

Avoiding the protagonists, my ass.. that hopeful thought is just a pure dog fart!

I've grown too lax, thinking that I'm safe from my supposed fate.

Anyway, I should meet the villain's right-hand man soon. According to my bits of knowledge of the novel, Caleon, Lyle's most trusted man, would pick five tributes who'd serve as Lyle's blood servants.

Unfortunately, Lucard was chosen.

Again, unfortunately, Lucard is me.

I'm pretty unfortunate..

Gradually, the sound of footsteps came to be heard. The sound alone makes the tributes turn their heads in anticipation.

Then, the echoes stopped as the source of the sound stopped in front of my cell.

"I'll get that one."

The man pointed his finger at me.

When I met his gaze, I was immediately struck with fear. Those red eyes.. they're pretty scary in person, huh?

Knowing that the vampire would feel irked on my audacious behavior, I immediately tore my gaze away, lowering my head.

"Hey you on the corner, get out."

"Yes, milord."

I gave one last look at the little kid who I didn't even get to ask his name, then went out of the cell.

Wow, although I don't remember the exact lines anymore, I somehow feel that I'm recreating the same exact scene, saying the same exact words.

Caleon's gaze felt painfully sharp. I'm not sure if it's a look of contempt, disgust or just simply his normal look.

From what I remember, Caleon is very loyal to Lyle. He is submissive, yet feisty in a certain sense. His good intuition and skills are some of the reasons that secured his standing in the Kaitzen household.

As for further details, I have no idea.

I quietly followed Caleon, who's looking for two more picks.

After he sufficed the spots, we proceeded to the warden's office where Caleon settled the payments.

"They're all a little plump. You have a good eye, milord."

The warden attempted to start a casual conversation with Caleon, but the other person doesn't seem to be happy with his approach.

'Is this Caleon's personality?'

The warden felt a little embarrassed upon the silent response. He cleared his voice, "Well, you're all set, milord."

"Thank you for your service."

Caleon nodded lightly, then immediately turned away, not wasting any more time.

We followed him until we reached the main entrance of the building. The scent of iron bars lingered on my nose again. Moreover, it's already dawn.

"Get moving."

Caleon ordered as he noticed that the sun was threatening to appear. Sunlight is vampires' natural enemy.

Upon his order, we climbed onto the ordinary carriage. Ah, I thought I'm going to have a terrible ride again.
