Chapter 3 - Friend

I am now 6 years old.

"Zung! Ching! Ching!" I literally said those words as I wave my fake stick wand.

I am outside our mansion (that is obviously provided by my real father whom until now I still don't know the name of).

My parents think I'm just playing but I'm actually trying to release my inner magic.

Based on my memory of the original story, Valentine has powers just like the other characters in the story. Only commoners doesn't have magic and that's why they're commoners, they don't have the same advantage as people with magic.

Mysteriously,  Pokey doesn't have one as well, so she was bullied for that as a kid.

Although towards the end of the story Pokey soon unlocked her magic powers and discovered that she's actually a very strong being... duh she's the main character so I'm not surprised.

I want to unlock my skills at an early age. The earlier, the better. Because life is short. What is being reincarnated in a fantasy world for if you don't get to experience some magic stuff.

But no matter how much I swing my wand and say 'Swish, Swoosh, Ching'. Nothing is happening.

Sadly, I went back inside the house.

"Are you done playing?" Father asked as he wipes my sweaty forehead using a soft piece of white cloth.

By the way, I call Elijah and Lara, Father and Mother now. I'm such a nice kid eh?

"Yes!" I replied.

"Breakfast is ready!" Mother called.

To be honest with you, there are no clocks in this world, only hourglass, so I am still confused as to how they tell what time it is.

Sometimes mother and father would teach me something like, "when the something something is blooming, it means it's this time. And when the birds are singing or something it's this time."

Of course they didn't actually say 'something something'. It's just that I honestly don't remember anything they taught me.

I dashed to the living room to eat breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!

"Someone's excited." says father smiling as he takes his seat.

In my past life I don't have a complete family and Auntie is always at work yet this setting feels so nostalgic.

These years are good. I'm always happy to eat with my family. I guess I shouldn't worry about avoiding a boring life after all. If I could be this happy and contented.

Im back at practicing my magic.

I've been ching zhung schwinging since earlier....

Suddenly. I saw a figure behind the bush. "Is my real father secretly watching over me all these time? That's sweet!" I thought to myself.

I waved at the tall silhouette and decided to go towards it. By the time my short legs took me across the bush, the silhouette was gone.

Maybe it wasn't him. I've read too much Isekai in my past life that I'm hoping father will be sweet enough to visit me....

Gosh, I thought I'm in a fantasy world, not a horror story....

I was about to head back when I saw a little girl about to slip on the concrete she's standing on.

"Ahhh!!" she screamed and fell in the bush.

I didn't move because she was too far. Sorry but I'm slow at reacting on things.

I rushed over to her. "Are you okay?" I asked.

"Ow! ow! ow!" she cried as she looks at her thumb that has a splinter stuck on it.

Sssss ooooh.... that looks painful.

"Let me help you." I say as I help her walk out from the bush.

"On the count of three I'll pull it out okay?"

"Oka— *I pulled it out* Owww!!!"

"Sorry..." I say.

She opened her eyes. "It's gone!"

'No it's just invisible.' is what I'm gonna say but now is not the time to joke.

"Thank you..." says the girl.

"No probs" I say as I stood up and began to leave.

"Wait! What's your name?"

"Valentine Thorn...." I say. I don't know why my adoptive parents have such a villain surname. In the book, Valentine's last name is also Thorn, but her adoptive parents was never mentioned in the original story now that I think about it. "What about you?" I asked her.

"Penelope Clover....my friends and family calls me Pokey."
