"I apologize for my late appearance but I only just arrived at the castle. I do hope provisions were made for me to have a meal at the table," Lord Seraphino judiciously announced as he walked in.
Vae walked close to him. She looked exhausted but somehow she was keeping up with the vampire and Mauve knew it was because if Vae didn't Seraphino would pull on the rope.
Vae was still dressed in the same clothes she had walked through the front doors of the castle. Seraphino seemed to have changed.
The marks the rope left around her neck were bright red and Mauve was sure they were sore and needed treatment.
She bit the inside of her cheeks to stop herself from saying anything. She was amid vampires, it wasn't hard to forget that.
If she did anything in an attempt to alleviate Vae's situation, she knew she was likely to make it worse.
