1 1. Night Changing

Tonight is the last night I live as an ordinary human. How could I not all these times I thought my life was like other women, but I am not. Behind all that, millions of lies have been–hidden by my parents.

Out of nowhere, my mother said I was the last vampire in this world. The vampires that I thought existed in stories or movies only. The truth is I will be one of them, a vampire. Because of that, all the time, we have lived in the forest far from our neighbors, not afraid of wild animals and demons roaming around. But why tonight? My 21st birthday night is special to me.

"Honey, why are you stunned?" asked Mother, standing beside me.

"Mother! Why did you not knock on the door first? If you like this, I will have a heart attack."

"Hahaha, honey, do not worry--this is the last time I come into your room. Oh yes! Happy birthday my dearest daughter Selene-- I love you so much," Mom hugged me.

"Thank you, Mother. Where is the present?"

"The present will be later," Mom looked at me with a meaningful gaze, one that I will never see again.

As if she knew I was not ready to accept all of this then, she said, "Ele, I know this is hard for you, but I have no other choice."

"But why tonight, Mom?"

"Because tonight is the night. Honey, you have to know that life is full of ups and downs, and the most important thing is that whatever happens in the future, you should never stop learning and gaining experience.

"You should be able to develop yourself at this–important age from your 21st birthday. You should concentrate on enjoying being an adult now rather than an adult in the future. Remember, Ele, you are no longer a child and have control of your life. None will make decisions for you!

"Honey, just be happy because you have the key to maturity and maturity in life. You will start a new journey in your life. You have to start changing your life habits and the decisions that you will make from now on.

"Enjoy your adulthood, and do not stress about the responsibilities you will have in the future. This is something that will make you a more mature and responsible person. Honey, please do not be insecure about who you will be. Just be yourself and hang out with your friends like ordinary human beings. I believe you can face the challenge that will be in your life. Because you are the strongest-- daughter I ever have," said Mother as she stroked my hair.

"Is it true that I am your only child, none else?"

"Only you and none else," said my mother.

"How long have you lived in this world?" I asked curiously.

"Long time, hundreds, maybe thousands of years. I did not count how long I lived in this world. But what is certain is that you are my only child and none else," Mom convinced me.

"Yes, I believe it is just me, none else. So, my ancestor was not a sailor but a vampire? Then where are they, Mom? I have never met them, and now you are about to leave me alone– in this world. Without letting me know where you want to go. Later if I miss you, where should I go to look for you, Mother?"

"Ele, my dear, if you miss me, look at the moon. Now, you might turn into a vampire in one night. But you also must know I cannot explain–everything– in one night. Trust me, as you go along, you will find out yourself. You will discover everything and know what you are supposed to know."

"Look at the moon? Do you want to move to the moon? Oh! I know the vampire clan is on the moon, right Mother?" I am joking.

"Honey, please be serious," my mother pleaded.

"Okay, Mom, I am serious. I will accept all of this and let me find out for myself. Mother, I still cannot believe that I will become a devil. Surely everyone will hate me."

"Darling, vampires are not demons. You must know that vampires are sentient beings that eat humans, while demons are spiritual beings that feed on negative energy.

"Both vampires and demons are immortal, but Vampires–are created when humans– are bitten, whereas– Demons–are created when humans– are infused with negative energy.

"Devils are supernatural beings controlled by their masters, while vampires are supernatural beings controlled by their thirst for human blood. Many demons have the same strengths as vampires, such as flying and shapeshifting, and the same weaknesses, such as sunlight and holy water, and can even be considered a type of vampire.

"However, there is another difference between vampires and demons, namely that demons--usually possess a person, while vampires are physical beings who cannot possess a person. Demons usually only travel through shadows or darkness. Meanwhile, vampires can travel at any time. Whether in the morning, afternoon, evening, or night.

"If it is a matter of being hated or liked by people, it all depends on you. Which way of life do you choose, the dark side or the brightside?

"Darkside means you will continue to kill humans for eternal life. Meanwhile, on the brightside, you try to control yourself so you do not kill humans and look for other sources of blood--such as animal blood. But for every full moon, you need human blood to survive on this--Earth. Well, you still need human blood.

"Honey, use your power wisely. Do not carelessly–fly here and there and change as you want, please, because it will use lots of energy. Meanwhile, you only need blood to consume. Also, you must be able–to control your emotions, especially in front of humans. Because when your emotions explode in front of them, they will see who you are. Therefore, you will be the one who will die, or they will die. Just be careful of yourself," Mom tried to explain it to me.

"Yes, Mother, I understand now."

"It is good that you understand."

"Wow, wow, wow! Do not rush, my dear mother. It is only 23.30 at night time, not midnight yet. There is still half an hour left–let me relax first, please," I begged Mother because she wanted to bite me.

"Okay, I will give you some time. But Ele, please, when you become a vampire, you must be brave and not afraid. Where are the crummy vampires, do not embarrass and disappoint me," Mom said while holding back her lust and inserting her fangs again.

While I sit still pensively worrying about tomorrow and so on. The day I will pass alone without Mother and Father–this is the destiny to be the offspring of a vampire and a human. DISTURBED! Especially when I saw Mother, who did not have empathy when she wanted to bite someone, I felt like she was CRUEL.

"Ok! Unfortunately, the time is up. Do not worry everything–will be fine. Are you ready?" Mom asked me.

"It is not fair half an hour so fast–30 minutes feel like thirty seconds. You must have sped up the clock. Reverse the time, please!" I told Mother to reverse the clock hanging on the wall in my room.

"It is a shame that the clock turns itself. I did not do anything to the clock. If you want to complain, complain to the battery. Just because I am Vampire keeps getting blamed. Quickly get ready, please!" Mother told me to prepare myself.

"Wait, Mom, give me a little more time so I can repent first. Lord, I beg your pardon," I am trying to buy time.

"Have you repented yet? What nonsense are you?" Mom shook her head.

"While I remember repenting, later, when I become-- a vampire, I did not have time to repent. Mother, have you seen the vampire repent? If you haven't, you will see the vampire repent now," I was laughing.

Because I saw my mom, who was super serious, I am serious too. Then while closing my eyes, I said, "I am ready, Mom," ready to receive a bite from Mother.

"Very good take a deep breath, honey!" Mother said as she approached and raised my hand.

"Aaaaaa!" I screamed because of the pain. I felt my wrist was being cut off–by a sharp knife. Instantly the sound of my screams disappeared into the silence of the night. Then, I heard my mother's last voice. She said, "Mommy is always here with you."

I lay weakly on the bed and slowly closed my eyes. After that, everything was dark except for the sound of owls and crickets.
