Chapter 11 - Acknowledging Emotions

"What were you about to do?" Zura asked aloud. Mostly, in order to confirm that his vocal cords were functioning despite the sudden pressure to which they had just been exposed.

"Wait."

It was only then that Zura realized that he had not said a single world aloud since he had come to that world, except for two; shit and fuck. In that moment, Zura could not help but to think back to his home. He never quite went out of his way to interact with anyone outside of them, not because he was asocial or had some sort of social anxiety. It was simply because unless he had something to gain or accomplish, he had never really seen the point. Except, for his parents.

He thought back to the times that he had spent sitting with them. Talking about everything and nothing, as they just listened to him spout whatever thoughts entered his mind as a child, before giving him some form of practical advise and then he would be off, chasing some idea or another.

He thought back to how, when he learned that there was a possibility of him needing to become a sacrifice, to how his thoughts veered more in the direction of seizing opportunity from the danger on the other side of the portal, than 'I hope my parents will be okay'.

He realized, as he laid there embracing pain both physically and emotionally in that moment of loneliness, that he had taken much of their interactions for granted. He simply thought of them as passing moments at the time. Passing moments until he figured out what subject he'd like to explore next. He realized, he missed them far more than he had originally given himself credit for.

"I thought I could move on without looking back once I left for good, but it seems my ability to comprehend my emotions, ha, may be lacking, haha." Zura laughed to himself as he looked far above to the ceiling.

His bat hands formed into fists.

'This venture will not be the end of my family.'

A light passed through the black eyes of that little bat in that moment, and if anyone had looked closely, they would have noticed a red the color of blood swimming within.

'They are mine.'
