Chapter 20: Up From Below
Mossie leads me to the back of the ship or the stern as she calls it. We wind our way behind the bridge, a command center where the captain waves at us cheerily from the front window. There’s a small open elevator over the side of the ship and Mossie beckons me after confidently stepping onto the platform.
With rubbery legs, I follow, gripping for dear life as the platform sways over the choppy sea. Mossie gives me an excited smile, raising her eyebrows in anticipation. Her mischievous expression does nothing to increase my confidence. We reach sea level, cold salty water washing over the platform and Mossie puts the lever back in place and claps her hands, turning to me as she removes her rings.
“Hold these for me, will you? And hey, nothing untoward is going on, I assure you but I’m going to have to get naked.” Mossie explains all this lightly as she slips off her espadrilles and unties her robe.
