Jared entered his throne room with heavy steps, his shoulders slumped and his face contorted with frustration and anger. Even though she could not speak, Abby portrayed her true feelings without hesitation. She had rejected him for Gregory, a lowly, inexperienced doctor.
Jared didn't understand any of it. Why were women rejecting him? He had the influence and the money. What more did they want? Jared was still reeling from the blow to his ego.
As he took his seat on his throne, he was greeted by the sound of laughter. Jackson was standing by the fireplace, holding a goblet of wine and chuckling to himself. He assumed that someone got the better of Jared again based on how he entered the room.
"What's so funny?" Jared snapped, his irritation evident in his voice.
"Looks like the great Lord has been rejected," Jackson said, his tone mocking. "Tell me, Your Majesty, how does it feel to be bested again and again?"
