1.5 : ENCOUNTER?

ESPERS!

People that are gifted with extrasensory perception. Meaning, unlike how normal people rely upon their senses such as sight, touch, and feel to gather and process information through the medium of physical contract, these people rely on their mind. To go further in-depth, these are people who have psychic abilities such as intuition, telepathy, psychometry, clairvoyance, and their trans-temporal operation as precognition or retrocognition.

In simple terms, they can see a fragment of the future and change the course of it, if humanly possible. I think that should be clear. So, why did this person refer to me as an esper? I'd rather not talk about it as I have no obligation to do so.

"I'm sorry, I think you got the wrong person."; If this person decided to have a chat with me based on the word that was going on about me in the streets, then they had mistaken me by a huge margin and just wasted their precious time on me.

"This weather, doesn't it seem a bit familiar to you?"; What a strange question to ask. I was certain that the person in question would have lost interest in me but on the contrary, we were having a conversation now. From what I've heard, it sounded like the voice of a woman but was she the only one here, or was there anyone else accompanying her? Because I was startled by her sudden appearance that I just moved away, and so, with my back was facing her, I couldn't see what she looked like and figure out who she was.

"Well, I don't keep track of the weather so I don't think I can go along with your attempt to just have a friendlier conversation. And on that note, how about we just get straight to business, you were the one who invited me, aren't you, Miss..."; as soon as I turned around, I saw the person in question. And to say that I was put off-guard is an understatement. Things couldn't have gotten out of hand than they already had, was what I assumed until this very moment. But that wasn't the case anymore because this person had changed the dynamic of the whole situation.

Scarlett, Violet, no Anna, maybe Elizabeth...Gosh, I'm bad with remembering people's names.

"Emily?"

"Wow! I'm surprised that you know my name. I feel honored now."; I could sense the pain by the way she had phrased her words. Look, I get it, even I'm not thrilled having this meeting. Plus, I don't think I'd be thrilled if I were to schedule a meeting to meet myself. The feeling's mutual.

"Well, isn't that a given? You are the most prominent and well-sought-out person on this entire campus and not knowing you and acknowledging your presence would only make my troublesome life even more wretched than it already is."; By the way, I wasn't sugarcoating stuff. This was the honest truth.

"Well, I did try to figure out what kind of person you might be but I have to say, you blew away all my expectations. I'm rather starting to think about how to approach this situation now. This is quite the dilemma."; Bold words coming from the likes of you. I mean, in all honesty, she's the one who set up this scenario and then for some strange reason had an idea of what kind of person I would be, only to be taken aback and now has no idea how to deal with it. This woman...

"It's quite something to hear those kinds of words from your sweet lips. I'm flattered. But in all honestly, just so that I don't give you the wrong idea, I'm just a bland, frivolous and sentimental person. Nothing more than that."; I didn't want to spend much more time than I already have. Because, from what I can sense, she had ulterior motives.

"You are quite the flirt. Even under these excruciating circumstances, you don't shy away from acting how you feel like. You are quite the anomaly."; I see. Thank you for your honesty. Though, it is with deep regret that I must inform you that I am well aware of that fact.

"So, Miss Emily, what do I owe the pleasure for meeting you here?"

"You tell me."

"Beg your pardon?"

"You heard me right. I am quite tired of this facade at this point, so why don't we get straight to the point?"

"Be my guest."

"What's with that turtleneck of yours?"

"Turtleneck? Ah, you mean this? I'm sorry but does this somehow offend you by any means?"

"Well, it doesn't concern me with what type of clothing you wear. What concerns me is why the sudden shift. It seems like you're hiding something."

This girl had a pretty sharp insight. The fact that we both were from the same department meant that we both could understand each other well. From a psychological perspective, the fact that I wore a turtle neck on such a day had just given her even more reason to suspect me. The fact that she passed me yesterday had enough leeway to question me.

"I don't think I'd have to explain each and everything to someone I barely know. If you'll excuse me now, I'll be on my way." I replied curtly and walked past her and reached the handle of the door when...

"The alleyway was pretty interesting, wasn't it?"

My hand suddenly slipped away from the handle when I heard those words.

"What are you referring to?"; I didn't dare to look back at her. I just wanted to keep this conversation short and simple.

"You are a very strange person. Even after all this, you still try to play dumb. I think I've given you too much credit. Fine, let's have it your way."; I turned her to catch her toss her hair back and let it loose. That sight burned into my eyes and I couldn't take them away for even a split second...

All of a sudden, the atmosphere around us began to change drastically. I could barely see anything. The strong wind that surrounded us brought upon a hazy mist on the rooftop we were at. At that very instance, I lost sight of Emily. I couldn't see her or sense her anymore.

I felt a sudden embrace from behind me. I couldn't move, or rather, I was being controlled. I could sense the movement of arms around my body from my chest to my face. And then, they were slowly moving around. I could hear the faint breathing amongst this. A sinister and yet calm smile filled up the silence in the air...

NOW, WILL YOU TALK TO ME?
