The silence hung in the room after Daniel mentioned the word "wife."
"Wife?" Anastasia, who had been staring at Daniel, lowered her gaze and nodded slightly. "I'll act like your wife as you requested, in front of your parents. Don't worry. But, Mr. Daniel, we didn't agree to act like a married couple when it's just the two of us."
Daniel sighed. "I'm sorry…" He bent slightly to make eye contact with Anastasia, hoping she could see his sincerity. "I really didn't mean to start our relationship on the wrong foot."
"Well, if we're starting on the wrong foot, I guess we don't have to stumble our way through," Anastasia replied, her tone carrying a mix of annoyance and sarcasm.
The comment made Daniel chuckle. He found it amusing but tried his best to hold back his laughter. "Nope, we don't need to stumble our way through," he paused, still smiling, "How about I carry you all the way—"
