Chapter 39 - Finding Its Weakness

"Mi Young…" Se Heon starts to say.

Mi Young didn't need to hear what the boy was trying to say because the next6 seconds, they were already running as fast as they could and away from the huge spider that was already running after them.

"Why is there a giant spider here?!" Mi Young hears Se Heon shouting beside him as they run towards the path beyond the rocky mountain.

"I don't know why but it looks like it's hungry!" Mi Young answers.

As they continued running down the path beyond the mountain, with the giant spider right behind them, Mi Young noticed that several trees were starting to appear around them.

"Se Heon, we're inside the forest again which means…" Mi Young starts to say.

"Which means what!?"

"Which means we're nearing the place where the giants are sleeping!"

"Great! Another threat!" Se Heon sarcastically shouts back.

"No, idiot! We can lure the—"

Mi Young wasn't able to finish what she was about to say because the spider suddenly shrieks behind them.

Both students glance back at the gigantic beast and their eyes widen when it suddenly starts shooting its web everywhere.

First it shoots at Mi Young and Se Heon's front, then both sides of the young teens and then practically all around them.

Both students had nowhere to go since the webs are practically everywhere so they stopped and observed their surroundings.

Suddenly, the huge spider was nowhere to be seen.

"It's gone?" Se Heon whispers.

Mi Young had enough experience with savage beasts that she was already getting used to the fact that each beast has its own characteristics. This time, she thinks that the spider has something up its sleeve the moment it started spreading its web everywhere.

"Be careful." Mi Young whispers as she eyes their environment. "It might appear behind us all of a sudden."

Se Heon nods at Mi Young.

Slowly, they start facing the opposite of each other and walk back until both their backs are touching against one another.

There was no movement around them except for their deep breathing.

Mi Young was looking straight ahead of them when she noticed some parts of the web around them was moving when there were no clear signs of wind. She looked closely at it once more and that's when she noticed the shadow of the spider.

"Se Heon! It can become invisible!" Mi Young shouts to warn her friend.

"So that's why!" The other party shouts. "Where is it?"

"It was in front of me earlier but I think it's gone again!"

Mi Young hears something move from her right and she dodges when the giant spider suddenly appears in front of her with its mouth wide open. Unlike the usual spiders, this giant spider has a huge circle shaped mouth that is filled with two rows for razor sharp teeth, and for some reason, they look ten times scarier for Mi Young.

Se Heon, who was carefully observing the place, immediately throws a huge punch towards the unsuspecting creature using a rock fist he made. The spider was thrown off a few feet away from Mi Young.

It went upside down and was unable to move immediately so it started shrieking in hopes to be able to get back on its legs. Mi Young used this chance to execute the Fire Ball technique. When she was done, she immediately fired a fireball towards the spider but the fire instantly vanished when it touched the spider's body.

"It doesn't have any effect on it?" Mi Young asks herself.

Se Heon seems to hear her words because he tried to shoot a fireball as well, "I think it's immune to fire. But that's weird…"

The boy didn't finish his sentence because the spider was able to get back to its feet once more. The moment it was able to stand upright, it immediately vanished, making Mi Young and Se Heon alert once more.

"Now it's gone again…" Se Heon says in an unbelieving tone.

They started facing each other's backs once more so they could watch out from both sides in case the spider attacks.

"Sh*t. Its web is so sticky! Yuck!" Se Heon announces while trying to get rid of a few webs who have now stuck to his shoes.

While Se Heon was distracted, the spider suddenly appeared on his right so Mi Young immediately pushed the boy away so he wouldn't get hurt. The spider was able to scratch Mi Young's arm which she used as a shield.

"Mi Young!" Se Heon shouts when he sees the blood gushing out from Mi Young's scratched arm. "Why the hell did you do that?!"

"Enough scolding! Let's talk about it later for now we have to eliminate this f*cking bastard!" Mi Young says while she scans their surroundings.

Se Heon was about to argue but he nodded grimly before he stood up and roamed his eyes around them.

"How the hell is it able to go invisible for so long?" Mi Young hears Se Heon whisper behind her.

She was about to retort something when the spider appeared in front of her once more. "Quick! Dodge!"

Both students crouched down in order to avoid the spider's sharp teeth. It lost its balance upon having nothing to bite and it stumbled forward, almost squashing Se Heon if not for Mi Young who managed to pull him.

The spider once again started shrieking in rage. Mi Young had no choice but to fire a fireball in order to scare it away while Se Heon was trying to get back on his feet. The fire that Mi Young threw didn't do any damage to the beast at all. However, she did not stop firing fireballs one after another until the spider shrieks and runs away to vanish once more.

"It's really weird…" Se Heon says once more.

"What's weird?" Mi Young asks.

"All spiders are afraid of fire, so why is it immune to fire?"

"Are you sure that that includes ALL spiders?"

Se Heon nodded seriously. "Yes. My mother grew up in the deepest parts of the South. Before she married our father, her job was to scout the borders of the kingdom. She encountered many beasts and she always said that spiders are the most fun to deal with for a Pyro Mage since they are scared of fire."

"Well, does that apply to spiders as big as this one?"

"I don't know but there's a reason why the Jeon's family crest has a spider getting burned through a fire. I'm sure of it…we just have to find its weakness." Se Heon explains.

Upon hearing the word "weakness" something flashes inside Mi Young's mind.

She remembered the incident earlier where the spider went upside down and Mi Young attacked it nonstop. The spider didn't do anything but it covered its belly like it didn't care if the other parts of its body got burned except for its belly.

Mi Young remembered it happened a couple of times as well every time the spider falls on its back.

"Could it be…" Just as Mi Young was about to tell Se Heon her observations, a loud shriek echoed all over. They are sure that it was the spider, however its voice sounded angrier and more aggressive.

"Mi Young, be careful! I think it's up to something!" Se Heon warns.

"You don't have to tell me, I heard it loud and clear!"

Right that instant, the giant spider appeared in front of them both. Its gleaming red eyes looking at both students. Mi Young and Se Heon call out their elements to get ready for its attack.

The spider shouts before it shoots thousands of webs towards them.

Se Heon starts struggling as he tries to block the spider's attack using his rock formations. However, the spider became faster as it shot more webs at them.

Mi Young on the other hand was able to stop a few of the web by firing fireballs at it. When she looked at Se Heon, half of the boy's body was already covered in spider webs. Se Heon was also struggling to form earth formations because he can't use his right foot and hands.

Because of her frustration, Mi Young screams and lets out a huge load of her Pyro mana, causing everything around her to burn.

Se Heon shouts when some of Mi Young's fire crawled towards the web that was covering him. But what amazed him was the fact that it didn't burn him at all. It also vanishes the moment all of the web around him gets burned.

The giant spider stopped its attacks and it tries to hide by making itself invisible once more. But something major caught Mi Young and Se Heon's attention.

The spider who was trying to hide itself wasn't able to fully hide because all of the web around them was gone.

"It can only be invisible if its touching tis web!" Mi Young announces while observing the frantic spider who was trying to run towards the web around them but sadly, each web is burning on fire.

Having found its other weakness, Mi young and Se Heon never felt more fired up upon calling out their mana energy.

"I'll burn all the web it tries to shoot and spread while you try to knock it out on its back. If you manage to get it on its back, call me immediately so I can burn its soft spot." Mi Young instructs while eyeing the spider which was slowly backing away from them.

Se Heon didn't say anything but only nodded as he eyed the spider with pure hatred. Se Heon executed a few movements until the spider was caged around a bunch of tall rocks that the boy had made.

The only way out was to its front which was blocked by the two students.

The spider starts shooting webs again so Mi Young did her job by destroying them all using her Pyro element, while Se Heon was busy attacking the spider using his Geo fist so it can land on its back.

When Se Heon finally managed to knock down the spider, he called for Mi Young who immediately executed a special technique where her hands started blazing hot fire.

Mi Young climbs the spider's huge body while it's on its back, the spider shrieks in rage and fear. "Goodbye."

And with a punch to its weak spot with Mi Young's blazing fist, the spider disintegrated into thin air, leaving nothing but its ashes.

"F*cking finally." Se Heon says as he slumps on the ground.
