Chapter 10

Far, far down the river on the opposite side of the raging water, a baby is crying incessantly at the rivers edge.

The bushes parted so that she could get a better view of what was making the shrilling sound. However, Dora already recognized the sound and slowly approached it.  On seeing her, the baby that was wrapped up began to laugh and smile. Her daughter left the bushes as quickly as she could and ran behind her seeking cover and using her mother as a shield. She got a closer look as she peeped out and she was horrified.

Ewwwww it's hideous! What is it mama? The poor animal is so small and it seems injured! Should we kill it? The baby girl dragon asks her mother

It's a human but his sparkling eyes tells me he is more! she said

A human mama? The same humans who killed our kind? But it doesn't look that strong mama? Fiona said confused from the stories her mother told her.

Fiona have your fill of water quickly let us return to our den before the humans arrive and we are seen. The mama dragon said.

Fiona was gulping water greedily,

And what will we do about the little human mama? Fiona asked excitedly

Can we keep him as a pet mama? Please, please? I can teach him to sit and roll over. Plus when it gets fat enough we can eat it! Fiona said and smiled.

The mother dragon, Dora, was hesitant as she looked at the baby. She did not want to chance jeopardizing her daughter and herself in this matter but she was a mother after all and felt deeply sorry for it.

Fiona sensing that she was considering it, pushed harder to keep it

If we leave him Mama, I'm sure the werewolves will rip him to pieces if the humans don't find him in time! Fiona insisted.

Well if I take him with us you have to take care of him okay. He'll be your pet to care for and look after, she said.

Fiona ran to her mother and hugged her,

Thank you mama! Fiona said.

Let's fly little one! The mother dragon said as she bit the cloth the baby was swaddled in and began flying towards the mountains with Fiona by her side.

Some hours later, the  pack of twenty lycanthropes returned to the cave. Commander Rolo shape-shifted into human form and approached Abraham .

We have searched the entire riverside until it opens out into the huge lake and we have not found either of them Master. Rolo said in a heavy voice.

Are you sure Rolo? Not even Lera as I'm sure the pup did not make it? Abraham asked.

If they survived Alpha,  it would be that they flew from the river banks as we've not gotten any of scents! Rolo said and laughed.

Abraham began laughing hysterically and turned around and looked at the badly beaten, black and blue Cain who was standing in front of the cave.

You did kill both of them after all, my son! I didn't think you had it in you. It seems I have underestimated your skills Cain. Abraham said and laughed

Cain just looked at him and tears began to fall from his eyes. He ran past his father and shape-shifted into a werewolf and began to run into the woods. He ran down the riverbed howling loudly and sorrowfully as he frantically searched for them.

The pack attempted to go after him,

Leave him let him wallow in his sadness. He deserves it! Abraham shouted.

He will be back when he doesn't find them and comes to his senses. He continued and walked into the liar with several of his mates. Abraham was saddened and disappointed that he didn't get to have one of Lera's daughters but at least he still had Freya with her dress and it would have to work until it became uninteresting and then he'd find a new mate.

Cain ran down the river edges and sniffed but did not find any scent of them. He crossed the raging waters and checked the other side but found nothing.

Cain returned to his father and his pack  two days later. He shapeshifted into human form and stood side by side to his father without looking at him.

They are gone! You have succeeded in destroying my family. I hope this confession pleases you! And he walked straight into the cave where Lera had given birth to his son and he cried until he fell asleep.

Lera was hundreds and hundreds of miles away deep within the dark forest learning about her mother's magical powers.  She was a quick learner and excelled quickly in most spells Isabel taught her. Her only weakness was that Lera could not completely let go of her hatred for Abraham and because of that she could never reach her true potential. Today Isabel taught her to transform herself into shiny, glittering particles of dusts as she demonstrated how it was done. As soon as  Lera saw what Isabel had turned herself into she remembered the dream with her baby shimmering skin.

Her heart was broken but her gut told her that her son was still alive. And she knew until she was reunited with her family, she was going to learn as much as she could because she would have to defeat Abraham and his pack in order to live safely and happily. Lera said the incantation that Isabel taught her and burst into hundreds of shimmering particles and Isabel smiled broadly.

That's right Lera! You were born to be a witch as I've never seen a newbie adapt to our way of life so quickly. I'm proud of you honey. Isabel said as the shimmering particles floated around her.
