Chapter 86 Frozen, Not Animated.
The person in charge of the scene was the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. When Fury personally arrived, he assumed the role of the highest authority.
Leon observed Fury wearing a thick padded jacket and a large hat that concealed his entire appearance. In contrast, Leon, who trailed behind, remained dressed casually in shorts and a t-shirt, with sneakers and no hat, hands tucked in his pockets.
Onlookers exchanged puzzled glances, all seemingly wondering, "Who is this person? Isn't he bothered by the cold?"
But he wasn't concerned about the cold; the temperature wasn't as extreme as the peak of Mount Everest. Besides, the air at that altitude was thin. Furthermore, it was summer, and Mount Everest's summit was consistently frigid, with temperatures often plunging below minus 50 degrees Celsius, whereas the Arctic's harshest cold struck in winter.
Let's not even delve into the temperature extremes...
Leon approached the frozen plane, which had come to rest at the glacier's base. Evidently, it had initially crashed into the water, slowly freezing, and subsequently, as the glacier expanded, it ascended from the sea.
"What do you think? Can we dig it out easily?" Fury inquired of Leon.
Leon replied, "Dude, when you came to get me, did you doubt my abilities?" In truth, the excavation work was already underway, but Fury recognized Leon's extraordinary superhuman capabilities, owing to his extraterrestrial origin. He considered leveraging Leon's powers.
Without hesitation, Leon's eyes gleamed as he emitted two golden beams of heat.
"MotherFu-," Fury muttered.
The ice rapidly melted, forming a gaping hole, as Leon's heat rays circled the plane, effectively cutting through the glacier, as if it were a laser.
Leon signaled for those nearby to step back. Fury promptly relayed the message, prompting everyone to retreat a short distance.
Once again, Leon raised his right hand and grasped a section of the ice block. He then spread his influence throughout the ice cube, a technique peculiar to the Superman lineage, ensuring that he could lift the ice cube in its entirety.
This method was vital to prevent any potential structural damage that might result from forcibly lifting only one corner of the block.
"Let's go, Baby," Leon muttered softly, and with a firm grip, he lifted the frozen part of the plane, accompanied by a satisfying 'click, click.'
Fury watched in relief as the plane emerged intact. He had sought Leon's help, hoping that the plane could be excavated without harm, fearing that conventional methods might compromise the plane's internal structure.
After all, Captain America, who had been injected with the super-soldier serum, was no ordinary person. There was the remote possibility he might still be alive.
Leon continued to use his heat rays to quickly remove large chunks of ice, allowing the surface of the plane to thaw.
Ultimately, he bored a sizable hole in the cabin to reveal its interior. It turned out to be a bomber, housing a substantial quantity of explosives.
The discovery startled everyone, but Leon casually walked inside. Fury followed, aware that these explosives, frozen for so long and submerged in the sea, were no longer a threat.
Both men then shifted their attention towards the cockpit. There, they spotted a round shield that had fallen into the aisle, igniting Fury's eyes with excitement as he hurried over.
"It's it, it's it, this is Captain America's shield," Fury exclaimed as he picked up the shield, his heart racing with the realization that they had indeed found the right plane. This was the aircraft from which Captain America had taken off.
Right then, Leon approached the cockpit from the other side and spotted a person encased in a thick layer of ice. It seemed that he had lost his breath, but Leon knew that his cells and physical state had been frozen at that fateful moment seventy years ago. The incredible truth was that Captain America was still alive.
"It's Captain America," Fury confirmed, calling out his name.
Indeed, the frozen figure was none other than Captain America, Steve Rogers.
"Okay, my mission is complete, it's up to you how to unfreeze him next. By the way, he's still alive," Leon pointed out that Captain America was still breathing.
Fury took a deep breath, the icy surroundings making him shiver, but now he could finally calm down. It went without saying that no one knew Captain America better than S.H.I.E.L.D.
After all, many of the founders of S.H.I.E.L.D had close ties with Captain America. Agent Carter was Captain America's love interest, and their relationship was no secret. Howard was an admirer and friend of Captain America. Moreover, Captain America's story was widely known, and many considered him an idol, including Fury.
Fury promptly arranged for a team to retrieve Captain America and had a plane prepared to transport him back to their nation. Experts were also on standby to ensure Captain America's safe thawing and revival.
"Thank you," Fury sincerely expressed his gratitude to Leon.
Leon waved his hand dismissively, saying, "Consider it my fee for services rendered. Don't worry about it."
In fact, Leon had not been bothered by any interference from the FBI or CIA, thanks to S.H.I.E.L.D.'s efforts. It was evident that there were influential figures protecting Leon and keeping him out of trouble.
Fury smiled with satisfaction, hoping that Leon understood the significance of their assistance.
"Also, for the time being, please keep this a secret," Fury requested once more.
Leon assured him that he wasn't one to gossip and would maintain discretion.
"Alright, since everything is in order, I'll be on my way," Leon stated. He drew circles in the air, opening a portal before Fury's eyes, with a golden circle at one end and his home at the other.
Fury was left amazed at the convenience of it all. Why bother with regular travel when Leon had this capability?
However, Leon had already disappeared through the portal, so Fury shrugged and boarded the plane to personally escort Captain America back to their nation.
Initially, the matter seemed to be settled, and Leon put it behind him. But more than ten days later, Fury delivered the thawed Captain America to Leon's doorstep and introduced them to each other. Leon was taken aback to learn that the house Fury had provided was no ordinary residence. That scoundrel had let Captain America into his life.
Leon mentioned that it had cost him five million.
Fury confidently responded, "Well, didn't I practically gift you the house? Think of it as the captain's rent."
As Leon looked at the somewhat reserved Captain America in front of him, he could only sigh and wonder, "By the way, why didn't you just parachute off the plane in the first place?"
