Chapter 84 Absolute Success
Starting the next day, news about Stark Group's mobile phone began to spread.
The reach of this news extended globally, as it was globally broadcasted from the outset. Initially, people were discussing the high price of the mobile phone. After all, for high school students in most nations, their first used car typically costs around $1,000.
When compared to a mobile phone, the choice seemed obvious.
However, as people began to access the official website and gather comprehensive information about the mobile phone, they started to marvel at its overall performance and appearance. Not only were its functions outstanding, but the technology far surpassed anything currently available in the world.
Even major mobile phone manufacturers were left scratching their heads, unable to fathom how this was achieved.
Aesthetically, things were changing too. The new phone was incredibly sleek, featuring a full-screen design. The introduction of full-screen technology alone was enough to justify the high price.
What's more, the phone's capabilities far surpassed those of existing mobile phones. As Pepper Potts mentioned, once this phone hit the market, all other phones became obsolete. The only downside was its high cost, making it unaffordable for children and discouraging many families.
Luckily, Leon had a solution in place: interest-free installment payments. For instance, the $1,300 price tag could be spread over a year and 24 months, requiring payments of just over $100 per month, all without any interest.
Some telecommunications providers even approached to propose cooperation. For example, by committing to a minimum monthly expenditure, customers could enjoy a substantial discount on the phone's price, among other benefits.
These forward-thinking sales strategies, which would only become prevalent in the years to come, were being introduced one by one. Thanks to the concept of installment payments being introduced early on, financial worries were alleviated.
Customers could even sign up for up to 24 interest-free installments through the bank, with an option to extend to 36 installments for a three-year repayment plan. Anything beyond 24 installments would no longer be interest-free.
However, some countries raised concerns about security, particularly regarding personal information and the possibility of this phone aiding in global surveillance.
Leon had anticipated this and presented documents to all countries, assuring them that the mobile phone's backend would be open to local authorities, who would handle uniform supervision.
One nation, in particular, expressed discontent and sought an explanation from Tony Stark. In response, Tony inquired about Hammer Industries' intentions. This left everyone speechless.
Whether it was the FAI or the CBA, they were defeated immediately. It became evident that Hammer Industries had been opposing Stark Group, refusing to share battle suit technology.
But no one expected Tony and Stark Group to take such bold steps. Essentially, they were saying, "You want to challenge us? Fine, we're changing the game." If you don't trust Hammer Industries, we'll continue leading the way.
The entire mobile phone industry felt the impact, especially on November 1st, which was Halloween. Stark Group, by voluntarily sharing documentation and oversight with countries worldwide, was able to launch its mobile phones simultaneously around the globe.
The entire world went into a frenzy, and every mobile phone sales point was teeming with people. What's most commendable about Stark Group is that, apart from price adjustments due to varying tariffs in different countries, the prices remained identical to the local rates.
In essence, after factoring out tariffs, the mobile phone price in each region was set at $1,300, which was neither exorbitant nor too low. This brought immense satisfaction to customers, as Stark Group refrained from exploiting price disparities to gain more profits.
In this way, everyone was eager to explore the new era of mobile phones. Especially in one nation, owing to Halloween, and Potts Pepper's remarks at the press conference, many children decided to forego trick-or-treating for candy and instead badgered their parents relentlessly for these phones.
Who needs candies and sweets when there's a new phone to covet? Some parents claimed financial hardship, but the option to pay over 24 interest-free installments at $50 a month made it appear incredibly affordable.
Consequently, on this very day, Stark Group, previously thought to be on the brink of collapse, suddenly began to soar. With a mobile phone price of $1,300 and total research and development costs plus manufacturing costs of less than $500 per unit (since they could be reproduced using Leon's reality warping), the net profit for each mobile phone skyrocketed to $800.
The profitability of this venture was astonishing, particularly since it was sold globally in unison. Who would have guessed that a mobile phone could yield such lucrative returns?
The stock market experienced unexpected fluctuations. On the day of the press conference, it almost hit rock bottom multiple times. Yet, within an hour of the mobile phone release, the stock surged to unprecedented levels. It quickly locked, making it impossible for further trading. Want to buy? How about tomorrow? By the next day, the stock price had climbed even higher. In under forty minutes, it locked again.
On the third day, it took less than half an hour. The fourth day was the most astounding, with the market locking after just ten minutes of opening. Everyone was left bewildered. However, this development fell within Leon and Tony's calculations. They knew that the extremity of this situation was due to a massive influx of capital from around the world, involving numerous shareholders.
Thankfully, Leon and Tony had already purchased countless shares before this. At least, they didn't have to fret over changing stock ownership. Many people, though, were regretful, observing Stark Group's stock skyrocketing daily and deeply lamenting their missed opportunities.
Especially on November 11th, Pepper Potts announced that on this day, singles could enjoy a headset and an $11 discount. This was in honor of Singles Day. The promotion boosted mobile phone sales even further, with some individuals falsely claiming single status, even those who were already married. Leon and the team didn't mind; it was all part of stimulating consumption.
With Double Twelve approaching, there was more to look forward to. The more they sold, the more they earned, and the discounts made it an appealing offer. Stark Group had truly executed a remarkable turnaround.
That evening, Leon, Tony, and Pepper celebrated on the top floor of the Stark Building. However, an uninvited guest interrupted their festivities: Nick Fury.
"Leon, we need your help," he said.
