Chapter 76 Gentlemen's in Capitol Hill
...
Two very cheeky individuals found themselves in the bar late at night.
Happy could only sacrifice his night to accompany both the 'gentlemen'. However, Happy couldn't keep up with the two when it came to drinking, and he quickly lost consciousness.
He didn't even realize when and where the two guys left in the middle of the night, or how he was in this hotel bed.
The next day when they reunited, only Happy seemed puzzled and hangover, while the other two were full of energy. Happy caught a whiff of an intriguing scent from the two, but he wisely refrained from asking any questions.
After a quick breakfast, they headed to today's meeting, primarily for Tony. Tony had previously 'fought' with Leon for the Iron Man battle armor, and today's meeting had one sole purpose: the Ministry of Defense aimed to extract the core secrets of the Iron Man from Tony. Tony, however, was unflinchingly confident and appeared well-prepared.
Leon remained silent throughout the journey. When others inquired about his identity, he simply claimed to be Tony's bodyguard. Tony gazed at Leon in bewilderment; it appeared that Leon had no intention of involving himself in today's proceedings.
Leon shrugged, realizing that, as an alien, engaging in hostilities with a nation was not a straightforward matter. He dreaded the thought of having to deal with the shameless antics of a human beings.
Meanwhile, S.H.I.E.L.D. was prepared to intervene if necessary. Leon recognized that despite his invincible strength, he was a part of the human race before, well aware of humanity's penchant for self-destruction.
Unless he truly intended to annihilate Earth, it was best to avoid escalating matters, or the entire world might turn against him. Contemplating this brought on a headache. When a group of ants provoked an elephant without truly comprehending the elephant's might, who could predict the elephant's reaction? It might choose to crush them with a single step, but Leon wasn't an elephant. He, too, had once been human, an Earthling.
By the way, elephants are known to be highly intelligent creatures and, perhaps, quite vengeful. So, it's wise not to provoke an elephant.
Capitol Hill earned its name because it was situated on elevated terrain, standing 83 feet above sea level. While Washington, D.C., was already known for its hills, this particular elevation was treated like a mountain, hence the moniker "Capitol Hill." Furthermore, it served as the site of a country's legislative building.
The importance of the Capitol Building required no explanation. The north and south wings on either side of the grand dome housed the House of Representatives and the Senate.
They were in a lobby typically reserved for Senate or House of Representatives meetings. The room was brimming with people, including journalists from across the globe, representatives from various sectors, and even affluent business tycoons. Among them, arms dealers were particularly prominent, indicating the high level of interest in today's news.
This was unsurprising considering Tony was currently the sole superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, at least within Earth's confines. Even though Captain America boasted the earliest history, his identity didn't strictly align with that of a superhero; he was simply a soldier. If one were to reluctantly label him as a superhero, he'd be more like a superhero of a single country, potentially viewed as an executioner by hostile nations. It was a wonder how he dared to visit Berlin.
As for Captain Marvel, she initially maintained a low profile and didn't disclose her identity to the public. Few knew of the alien invasion in the 1990s. Although the Hulk made an early appearance in the movie universe, General Ross had consistently portrayed him as a dangerous monster rather than a hero.
Only Tony Stark, particularly in the cinematic universe, was the first superhero acknowledged by the world. He had never announced collaboration with any country's military, nor did he join any nation's military for global interventions. Even now, he had never sold his battle suit to any country as a commodity.
Finally, now the nation couldn't wait any longer. They were in a rush and sent a summons to Tony, leading to today's meeting.
Everyone was well aware of the nation's intentions, so many people glanced at the current Minister of Defense, seated high above, and silently scoffed.
The nation, in truth, was far from the epitome of freedom. Anyone who truly believed in its freedom was utterly naive.
Regardless of the thoughts of all the attendees, Leon followed Tony to the seats directly opposite the Minister of Defense. Since it wasn't an interrogation or a court trial, their choice of seating seemed perfectly ordinary. They were the only two who entered, while Happy remained outside.
Given Leon's role as a bodyguard, should anyone attempt to stop him, he'd swiftly resolve the issue with a single glance.
Once the two settled in the front row, they continued to exchange whispers, sporting amused smiles even in the presence of the Minister of Defense.
...
"Tony, You remember the girls from last night, Uff!!!. I had an incredible night, thanks for being with pepper, I had a incredible night with those two. Ah, it is nice to be a bachelor, oh, let me rephrase that, A Handsome Bachelor."
"*Sigh* Yeah! Yeah! Now quit boasting about it. If I wasn't with pepper, you wouldn't have gotten even one. Anyway tell me, do I look stunning. wait don't tell me, I already know, don't I?"
In reality, there were others around them, and people behind them were wearing shocked expressions. This was Capitol Hill, after all—how could such remarks be made in such a revered place?
Dang...dang...dang.
Perhaps the Minister couldn't bear it any longer, so he picked up the gavel and struck it twice, sternly declaring, "Silence."
Leon glanced at the corpulent figure above and deliberately said, loud enough for those nearby to hear, "Hey, what is it with his mood? does he think like I had an affair with his wife and side chick yesterday or something?"
Puff.
Cough, cough, cough.
Laughter and uncontrollable commotion erupted around.
The Minister's face alternated between shades of blue and white as he continued banging the gavel, shouting, "Silence, silence, silence."
Meanwhile, Tony sitting beside him couldn't help but smile. He knew Leon was just trying to have some fun and toying with this people's minds. What Tony didn't know, though, was that his's statement was, in fact, true...
As for Leon, he couldn't care less. He was here to have fun; why worry about it? He wasn't about to settle down with anyone. If anyone should be concerned, it would be the rotund gentleman, right?
Furthermore, what era was this? Why be so conservative? And where were they? In a nation, nonetheless.
Let's not dwell on it too much.
It took the Minister some time to regain control of the situation.
Just then, a man rushed in and took the empty seat next to Tony. He insincerely stated, without an apology, "I apologize for my tardiness."
Tony glanced at Leon and silently muttered, "Hammer."
Leon shrugged, "Who's Hammer?"
What? Thor's hammer already came. Did I cause butterfly effect even in Asgard??? Honestly, he had no idea.
On the other side, Justin Hammer chuckled awkwardly. He hailed from a wealthy background, similar to Tony's, and was even an arms dealer on the same level.
Yet, Leon doesn't know about him.
Below, Tony discreetly gave Leon a thumbs-up, appreciating his sense of humor. Nice job.
