Chapter 54 Ancient One
It could be said that Leon has an impressive appearance, as he was personally greeted by the Ancient One.
Kamar-Taj is like a massive courtyard. When you enter from outside, you pass through a small door that appears like an ordinary door on the street.
However, it was only when stepped inside that other realized there was a whole massive place within.
Even the yard of Kamar-Taj sits on a cliff, not to mention its immense size.
After the Ancient One took Leon off Mount Everest, She led him to an antique wooden building.
"So, you had alredy anticipated my arrival," Leon knew that the Ancient One must have been aware of his coming.
The Ancient One smiled and didn't rush to respond to Leon's words. Instead, She beckoned someone from their side, who brought two cups of tea for both the Ancient One and Leon.
Leon wasn't afraid of the tea being hot, so he took a sip from his cup.
Not only was he unafraid of the heat, he didn't even fear the possibility of the Ancient One adding something else to the tea.
Of course, the Ancient One would never do such a thing.
Then, the Ancient One nodded, signaling the others to leave the room.
Once only the Ancient One and Leon remained, the Ancient One's expression suddenly changed. She looked at Leon with great seriousness and said, "You are not from this universe, are you?."
Leon paused, not immediately answering, and asked, "Why do you say that?"
The Ancient One snorted softly. "What do you think I have been battling against for so many years? I can naturally sense that you come from another world/universe through the energy you have and also your energy don't match with our universe's energy. Fortunately, you are not from the dark dimension; otherwise, we wouldn't be sitting here enjoying tea."
The Ancient One has been fighting against the invasion of Dormammu, the lord of the dark dimension, a realm resembling the spiritual realm but entirely different from the material world.
Moreover, having served as the Sorcerer Supreme for so many years, the Ancient One naturally observed and discerned something from Leon's being.
For instance, that he is from another world.
Leon couldn't help but admire the Ancient One's insight. Only the Ancient One had realized that he hailed from a different universe.
Indeed, he was from the DC Universe.
Although he initially traversed from the real world to the DC universe, he inexplicably found himself in the Marvel universe.
However, he couldn't disclose these details. While he had no fear, explaining it all would be quite troublesome.
"Since you have the Time Gem, you can naturally see that I'm not your enemy, right?" Leon changed the subject and mentioned the Time Gem directly.
The Ancient One was taken aback and let out a soft sigh. It seemed that she couldn't pursue Leon's origins any further.
The Ancient One also picked up their teacup and took a sip.
The two fell silent for a moment.
After a brief pause, when the silence became unbearable, Leon was about to speak.
Suddenly, the Ancient One interjected, "I will not accept you as my disciple."
Leon raised an eyebrow. "Huh, I didn't say I wanted to be your apprentice."
Although Leon may look like in his early twenties but he is more than 100,000 years. Regardless of the Ancient One's current age, apprenticing under someone who is not even quarter of his age seemed rather unnecessary.
He decided to let go of this topic.
"I just wanted to take a glimpse at your book of magic if it's possible. If it's inconvenient, then forget about it," he didn't insist.
"And about the Time Gem, would you mind showing it to me?" Leon mentioned the Time Gem again, as it was another reason for his visit.
Leon is filled with curiosity about the Infinity Stones because of their incredibly exaggerated abilities.
A mere snap of the fingers can eradicate half of the universe's life, and another snap can resurrect the dead. It's truly god-like power.
Among these gems, each possesses unique abilities that may even tap into the origin of the universe.
The concept of the origin of power may sound familiar if you're acquainted with the DC Comics . The source power is vast and intricate. For example, Darkseid's father, Yuga Khan, drew power from the source and even used it to elevate the New God to their current position.
Yuga Khan's power is unquestionable. He is the true master and ruler of Apokolips. Even Darkseid, upon encountering his own father, would turn and flee, lacking the courage to resist.
Despite his immense power, Yuga Khan's connection to the source was incomplete. He sought to obtain a stronger and more complete source power by venturing to the Source Wall.
However, he found himself stuck atop the wall and unable to break free…
Anyone without source power who approaches the Source Wall becomes bound to it. Only those who have reached a certain level of power are qualified to cling to it, unless they receive shelter from a powerful being outside the Source Wall, such as the Superman of the main universe.
The Source Wall and the source power are undeniably formidable.
Moreover, there isn't just one source power. Take, for instance, the seven-color power ring valued and relied upon by Oa's Lantern Corps (in truth, there are nine colors and over ten rings in total). The emotional spectrum embodied by those rings is also a form/aspect of source power. The black light represents death, the white light represents life, and so on. They possess tremendous power.
This is precisely why Leon intends to observe the Infinity Stones. Even if the laws differ between the two universes, there might be something he can learn from them. Anything related to the source/origin is awe-inspiring.
For instance, in the Marvel universe, the five cosmic entities originated from a similar force of will at the dawn of the universe. These entities are Death, Eternity, Annihilation, Infinity, and the Devourer of Worlds.
Overall, the five cosmic entities hold immense power.
Now, returning to the wooden building...
The Ancient One is examining Leon.
As Leon mentioned, the fact that she accurately arrived at Mount Everest to meet him demonstrates that she foresaw his arrival through the Time Gem. Perhaps she even knew his purpose.
"But I cannot see the distant future. For some reason, ever since I learned of your arrival, I haven't been able to grasp the future's events," concern flickered in the Ancient One's eyes.
In truth, she had always maintained a detached demeanor until this very moment.
Leon was taken aback. "Couldn't it be because the future is unpredictable and ever-changing?"
The Ancient One shook their head. "Originally, I could see the distant future, including the imminent alien invasion and the Battle of New York. I even saw my own death. But after glimpsing at you or your future, my ability to perceive the future faded away. The future became obscured, and the visions I once had never included you. Who are you, really?"
Leon lowered his head and remained silent, contemplating the Ancient One's question.
He also began to understand what the Ancient One meant.
Leon knows the unfolding plot and, like the Ancient One, is aware of what the future holds.
However, unlike the Ancient One, who chooses not to alter the future and faces their own death with equanimity, Leon has the power to change the course of events. Much has already changed.
That's why the Ancient One stated that since encountering Leon, the future has become unpredictable.
