Chapter 43 Leon, The Businessman
I must say, Tony has a big heart. He's a person who remembers old emotions and knows how to show gratitude.
Few people are aware that Tony reciprocates. That's why he created a battle suit for Leon, even though he knew Leon didn't actually need it. It was the thought that counted.
The battle suit was designed to resemble Leon's Superman battle suit, almost identical except for the absence of a cape. It was dyed dark blue with two large red Ss on the chest and back, outlined in gold. The only difference was the absence of a helmet.
"I thought you're not a fan of helmets," Tony observed keenly. He figured Leon wouldn't mind sacrificing the cover status or the need for helmet protection, so he left it out.
Leon nodded in agreement. He truly didn't require a helmet, as he had nothing to fear.
"Speaking of which, it doesn't really make sense for you to give me this thing. Why don't you give me half of your fancy cars instead? You won't be able to drive them all anyway," Leon turned around, examining the battle suit, and suddenly glanced at the few luxurious cars parked in the nearby garage.
Tony rolled his eyes, thinking he was quite greedy. But he didn't say anything and simply responded with a question, "Let's discuss it when you get your driver's license."
Damn, how could Leon even have a driver's license?
"By the way, why did you suddenly decide to give me something?" Leon changed the subject, looking at Tony without much meaning behind his gaze and half-smiling. "You are not one to be polite, you're either a Imposter or wants something."
Tony's intentions were truly unsightly, but he did have something to confess. "Actually, I've been contemplating it, and you're right. As a weapons dealer, I've developed a massive number of weapons. Even if I wasn't the one directly responsible for killing those people, they died because of the weapons I created. I want to change the company's direction."
Leon understood his point.
"So, what do you want from me this time?" Leon sat beside him and asked Tony, curious about what he wanted now.
Tony didn't know what Leon possessed or what he was willing to contribute, so he could only tentatively suggest, "Why don't you help me brainstorm ways to develop the company? After all, it's your company too."
It's worth noting that Tony didn't offer his shares for nothing. He wanted to bind Leon not only to himself but also to the company. That way, Leon would be compelled to aid in the company's growth.
Leon didn't feel like he was being manipulated. The reason was simple: the current Stark Group was also his company, and he was one of the major shareholders.
It was no longer just about assisting Tony; it was about helping his own company thrive.
Well, Tony succeeded in trapping him.
"Let's think about it," Leon crossed his arms and genuinely began to contemplate.
Tony's eyes lit up, and he took the initiative to go to the refrigerator and open two bottles of beer.
Beer had never been Tony's favorite before; it felt like a downgrade. He loved champagne, whiskey, all sorts of red wine, and even sake and sometime white wine (as far as I can tell).
But things had changed since Leon arrived. Leon drank all of his good wines, and Tony didn't mind spending the money (though he did feel a bit of regret), but it was a waste to drink them with Leon.
Leon seemed nearly immune to intoxication, as if he had evolved a unique tolerance for it. We all know that drunkenness is essentially a form of ethanol poisoning, commonly known as alcohol poisoning, though the severity varies. Ordinary drunkenness is harmless; just sleep it off and drink plenty of water.
However, it's still considered a form of poisoning, and Leon seemed to have developed an immunity to it. He could still appreciate the taste of alcohol, but he was the only one who never got drunk.
I must admit, Doomsday is truly impressive.
The damage that Leon has experienced once will not harm him again, and he possesses the ability to adapt to the surrounding environment.
For instance, in extreme cold, given enough time, Leon can endure freezing temperatures that could freeze the world.
Similarly, extreme heat, even temperatures reaching hundreds of millions of degrees Celsius, can be gradually adapted to by Leon.
He is simply invincible.
Initially, he had a weakness in the form of kryptonite, which could potentially kill him.
However, one of the first things he did after his resurrection as doomsday was to stab himself with kryptonite, rendering him immune to its effects.
It's nearly impossible to fathom any other way to kill him.
Moving on.
Leon grabbed both the beer and quickly finished the bottle with a single gulp.
Tony, feeling helpless, went to fetch another one. As Leon took a sip, he snapped his fingers and exclaimed, "I remember!"
Tony, eager to know, set his drink aside and looked at Leon expectantly. "What is it? Tell me!"
"Smartphone," Leon said, sporting a mysterious expression regarding his recent idea.
Tony's excitement faded away. Whatever he was thinking, the smartphone had already been invented.
A smartphone refers to a device with an independent system, memory, and operating capabilities. We don't need to delve into the specifics.
In short, the keypad phones used in this era are essentially smartphones. Although they don't have touch screens like the ones we're familiar with, it's still the initial era of touch screens.
However, the current network is not as developed and advanced as the post-4G or 5G era. Even the fourth-generation Apple Phone won't be released until June 8, 2010.
And now, it's early June 2008.
June, summertime, pleasant weather.
The more Leon thought about it, the more excited he became. He suddenly slapped Tony shoulder, startling him.
But Tony quickly noticed that something new was materializing in Leon's palm.
It was a small, thin, and lightweight device with a full-screen display, resembling a modern day mobile phone.
Leon, possessing fifth-dimensional powers to warp reality, created the most advanced smartphone he had ever seen based on his own memories.
The phone had a full-screen design with a glass back cover. Even Tony handled it with care, as it felt like a work of art in his hands.
Leon explained the control methods to Tony and outlined the benefits of smartphones one by one.
Unfortunately, the network wasn't fully developed yet, and wireless signals weren't widely available.
Furthermore, the era of mobile applications (apps) hadn't arrived, so it could only connect to the internet through J.A.R.V.I.S., limiting its comprehensive functionality.
Even so, Tony was left in awe.
"Once this device is introduced, Stark Industries will lead the world into a new era. And Tony, mobile phone sales are just the tip of the iceberg. Don't forget, the real money is in communication fees. We need to grab a share of the network."
"What will be profitable in this new era? Weapons? Guns and ammunition?"
"NO, NO, NO! Data traffic is king. Tony, let's open an online store together."
