CHAPTER Forty-Nine

  Ryland

It has been a few weeks since we had the police out to report the bastard next door. The protective order was in place: if he came anywhere near Gracie, me, my mom, or the house, then he would be arrested. Currently, it is temporary. It will become permanent after a court hearing, but that was months away. And hopefully, Gracie wouldn’t need to attend it, but we will have to wait and see.

Gracie wasn’t letting any of that drag her down, though. She had been getting on with her life. And she has gotten herself a job, which also helped keep her mind off things. I was hoping after today I would have one too since I will be having an interview later on. We will see how it goes. I am terrible at interviews, hence why I didn’t get any of the other jobs. However, I felt hopeful this time, especially after Gracie spent hours practicing with me last night.
