Eleonore’s POV
I told Amanda to go ahead of me, to rush inside and find the twins before it was too late.
I could still feel the prickling at the back of my neck, telling me that someone was watching me. I knew the familiar feeling well and let my eyes dart all around the garden as I tried to find out exactly where she was hiding. How do you find a shadow?
I tried to look in the darkest corners of the garden, where the lamp lights and moonlight couldn’t reach, but I saw nothing. It wasn’t until I felt a harsh kick to my back did I realize that she had snuck up behind me. I felt my body lurch forward as I was pushed onto the ground.
A maniacal laughter escaped her as I stared up into my own face—she was here. I didn’t bother to think about how she had managed to escape the Void or even find me. That didn’t matter right now, what did matter was the fact that I had to get out of here.
