The Transmigrator's Vacation

A new product in the system store was finally available to me: a one-use item that allowed me to regress to before my original death. But all I saw was one word in bold pasted on the product: VACATION. So, here I am, back in high school, trying to live my life as inconspicuous as possible. I will enjoy my salted fish life!

1 - Vacation Product

I am a transmigrator. At least, I used to be.

A long time ago (in my perspective), I was hit mercilessly by a truck and died quickly because of severe blood loss.

Instead of being sent to Heaven as normal creatures do, I was bound to a system. In each world I was sent to, the system gave me tasks I had to complete. Each time I met a designated task, I was rewarded points I could use in the system's store. The more points I spent in the store, the more my level increased. And a higher level meant I could purchase more things in the store.

Eventually, after countless worlds, my level reached 99. The highest level. And only one new product became available to me.

Reincarnation. Or, no. A better word for it would be time travel.

I could go back to the time before my original death, just before the truck hit me.

----

Here I was, standing in the middle of a dark void after completing yet another mission. Surrounding me were large, transparent screens, glowing red, showing worlds of data.

Currently, I was in my system's limbo. A place where time and space do not exist. A place above universes.

I walked forward and leisurely sat on the leather spinning chair in front of me. I leaned back and heaved a deep, tired sigh. I pinched my eyes and rubbed my temples frustratedly. "System, open store."

"Processing command… command received… receiving new data from main server… processing new information… opening store…"

I was immediately transported into a different area. The screens surrounding me were replaced with a continuous display that seemed to go on forever.

Directly in front of me was a small orange system notification panel. "Host no. 001, you now have [Lvl. 99 Clearance]. (1) more items are available to you in the system store. You are promoted to [Administrator]. You now have access to the main server. For more information, please check [Lvl. 99 Clearance Transmigrator's Guide]."

My tired eyes widened in response to the announcement in front of me. 99… I thought.

I was a veteran transmigrator. The original one. The first host. I have traveled countless worlds, completed countless tasks, and met countless creatures and situations. It was now near impossible to surprise me. Nearly nothing could make me reel in shock. So you can recognize the severity of the situation right now.

Advancing to the next level of clearance was difficult. It took around 2-3 S+ missions to accumulate enough points to advance from Level 0 to 1. And, the amount of points it took to advance from Level 1 to 2 was much higher than 0 to 1. The amount of points needed became higher and higher.

So the sense of achievement when I finally reached Lvl. 99 Clearance was very high.

But only one more item available to me is… I'd have thought that, as the highest level clearance, there would be more. I eyed the glowing red panel suspiciously, and stepped to the side to browse through the system store.

I lightly skimmed through the products neatly displayed in small, compact square boxes. My hands slid through countless items I had bought, and countless items I still could not afford, before I finally stopped at a glowing red box in the center.

I lightly tapped the small screen covering the item and said, "System, simple briefing."

"Item name: Traveler

Item purpose: Allows the host to go back to their first life (1) time.

Item details: Consumable item; can only be used once. Brings host (Lvl. 99) back one day before their death.

Item limitations: Host (Lvl. 99) cannot disturb the world's balance in any particular way. System will warn the host if the world's original timeline is offsets the timeline too much. Host will be required to fix the abnormality.

*If the host violates this rule, they will be forcefully booted out of the world."

Cannot disturb the world's balance? I was quite bewildered reading the description. Why?

Hosts were required to offset the original timeline in all worlds. The entire point of the mission was to create a new timeline and create a new one according to the main system. So why…?

My eyes widened in realization. It's because it's a high-tier world.

There are three tiers. Low, mid, and high.

Low-tier worlds were like children's storybooks. No creatures had consciousness there. Low-tier worlds were very simply created, so the timeline was set in stone and all things were predetermined. Hosts were never required to transmigrate to a low-tier world because there would never be an aberration or issue in a world where chance did not exist.

Mid-tier worlds were where transmigrators were sent to. Creatures there were sentient, and although there was one set timeline, or 'plotline' as others might say, transmigrators can change it and bend it to their will. However, the plotline only spans over a limited period of time. The 'beginning' and the 'end'. Time is not continuous there.

High-tier worlds were sentient. Not just the creatures. The world has consciousness. The world, unlike mid and low-tier worlds, warps and bends. It shapes itself, and although there is one set timeline it follows, the timeline is extremely difficult to chart because of the worlds' spontaneous persona. Additionally, unlike mid-tier worlds, the creatures residing there do not exist for one character. There is no 'main character' in a high-tier world. Everything had a leading role.

It was a new level.

I began to comprehend the reason why the item "Traveler" was only available to hosts with Lvl. 99 Clearance, and why it cost so many points to buy. Because bending the timeline, and adding another 'leading role' to the plot, was something extraordinary.

I felt the faintest sense of longing pulling me towards the red item box in front of me. I want it. It's been a long time since I had wanted something.

Maybe it was time for a vacation.

A break from being a host and world hopping.

A chance to play the leading role for once.

I glanced at the amount of points I needed to buy "Traveler" and winced. This better be worth it.

I lightly tapped the screen of the item box and said, "System, purchase item."

"Host no. 001, you currently have 8,294,201,619 points. Do you wish to continue?"

"Yes."

"Do you want to purchase item [Traveler] for 1,000,000,000 points?"

"Yes."
