14th, Shravana, 1965
Sunday morning, it's a pleasant day on the island inside the tower. But it has nothing to do with Ortson.
Right now Ortson is in front of room no. 502. It is the abode of their residential genius mage Milly.
Ortson has seen Milly carrying a grimoire on various occasions, and she is also a traditional mage who uses spells and master of the mystic script.
Ortson knocks on the door of the room and waits for the response.
"Miss Milly are you there."
"I am Ortson from the 4th floor."
Ortson heard the sound of rustling inside and footsteps coming toward the door.
The doors open inside and Milly greets Ortson.
"It's you Mr. Ortson, what can I do for you?"
"Good morning Miss Milly, I am in need of your assistance, if provided I will compensate you fully for your time."
"Disgusting."
"What!"
That kind of reaction shocked Ortson greatly. Ortson could not comprehend why Milly was disgusted with him, he and Milly have not much interaction with each other.
"Miss Milly, did I offend you somehow? If I did I am willing to amend."
"I am disgusted with your polite attitude, you are just like all those two-faced bastards."
Again Ortson is dumbfounded by Milly's reply, two-faced, he won't deny that he is two-faced.
'Who is not, to live in society one needs to be two-faced, some do it unknowingly and others knowingly.'
And Ortson who has worked and lived inside society once, knows those who live in, not live with the society they all wear masks for various occasions which are influenced due to various circumstances such as position, environment, group, person, etc.
Ortson came to meet Milly for a favor for the first time, they didn't have much interaction with each other prior to this meeting.
They have interacted before once but that was for a moment.
'I am no Sherlock or Moriarty who can profile someone after meeting once.'
But Ortson knows how to adapt.
"Ok, Miss Milly I want your help."
"Better, and we are acquaintances you don't need to be so formal with me and I am tired from the morning run and exercise."
Ortson pulls a new grimoire from his side bag and holds it in front of Milly.
"I want you to edit my grimoire."
"Come inside and take a seat."
The interior is the same as Ortson's room but it is full of books on the bookshelf.
Ortson can see many alchemy circles engraved on the floor and four walls. There are also many plushies arranged on the bed.
"Give me."
Milly opens the first page of the grimoire.
"Grimoire of Numerology."
"What's this?"
Traditionally, a grimoire is written in the format poem, song, essay, or story. That's why traditional mages accustomed to writing grimoires are excellent literary writers.
But Ortson only knows how to write essays, letters, e-mails,s and reports due to his educational background but poems and songs, he does not have much talent in that department he can write one if he tries hard enough.
And he does not have enough command over the Ogloshi script that he can write a grimoire full of it.
That's why when writing the grimoire Ortson referred to how computer programs are written, in short sentences, step by step.
First of all, there is no number system recorded in any of the mystical scripts. There is no concrete explanation for it either.
However, there are many unconfirmed hypotheses, such as mystical scripts that are only needed for emulating and shaping natural phenomena.
The second hypothesis is that- It is confirmed that great old ones, elder gods, and outer gods are the creators of the mystical script.
And these cosmic beings have no need for counting as they are immortals, they have unlimited time at their disposal.
That's why mystical scripts do not have a number system included in them.
Only mortals have a finite time on their hands that's why they have a need to count their days.
Because mystical scripts don't have a number system ortson first has to record basic data of all calculable results between 0-9 of all basic mathematical applications.
After that, he has to right the mystical program for calculation.
"I have read the whole grimoire, and your idea is feasible and I have gained a new understanding of mystical scripts thanks to you."
"I just wanted to reduce my workload, so I thought of writing a grimoire."
"Huh! Why don't you use abacus then?"
Ortson became embarrassed at the query.
"I don't know how to use it."
"So you wrote down a grimoire in a new format combining mystical script and mathematics. Do you hear yourself what you are saying?"
Now that someone said it to his face Ortson came to a realization of what he had done.
"You just created a new format for writing grimoire single-handedly by yourself, just because you want to reduce your workload."
"But calculating numbers all day mentally stresses me. And now I just have to input the number and
voilà it done."
Milly was dumbfounded at the reply.
"Hah! Ha! ha! You are great Ortson, it is really a true necessity is the mother of invention."
"There are some faults in the grimoire I just need to fix those and you are good to go."
Milly takes out her wand and recites a spell.
"Descenus Serpenus"
A uniform indigo stream of light particles converged which started turning the pages of the grimoire at a fast pace and editing the mistakes in a go.
"It's done."
"Let me use it first, I am very excited."
"Ok, Milly you use it first."
Milly inputs mana inside the grimoire a blue colour interface appears on top of it.
The interface looks like a modern-day calculator.
Milly inputs various numbers and presses an equal sign to get the desired result.
calculating single-digit, and double-digit number have no problem but as the number of digit increases, more time increases for calculation.
"Your grimoire is a success but it needs some finishing touches. An auxiliary amplification alchemy circle and an ether stone and you will be done."
"I don't know how to do them."
"I can do it for you for just 800₸"
"Deal."
"Wait for a moment."
Milly takes out various alchemical materials and a pebble size white colour etherstone, needed for engraving the alchemy circle on the hard cover of the grimoire.
Her hands showed amazing dexterity and concentration while engraving the auxiliary alchemy circle of amplification.
"Thank you Milly, and here is the promised sum."
"It's my right for my services."
Ortson leaves Milly's room on a positive note while holding the grimoire tightly in his hand.
