Chapter 17: Your Boyfriend

Mia is always acting tough, I think I like her that way, that's an interesting aspect about her that I find amusing.

It's evident her mother's condition really affects her. I had called my private investigator yesterday but he hasn't given me any feedback till now so I called him again.

'Boss' he answered on the first ring

'I asked you to do something for me. I told it was urgent so I need results' I said

'I was just about to call you boss' he said

'So do you have what I need?' I asked him instead

'Yes sir' he said

'Hector, her mother is in the hospital, I don't know which. I forgot asking you to...'I didn't complete my statement

'I have everything including that boss' he said and i couldn't help but smile

'Good, meet me at my place in 5 minutes' I told him

I just thought of Mia and remembered she sent me her account details. I quickly sent the money she needed attached with Selena's photo and a little bio about her.

Ten minutes later.

'So, what have you got?' I asked Hector

'Her full name is Mia Montoya, she's 22 years old, her dad is Spanish, her mother is American but she lived almost all her life in spain' he said

'I know all of that, tell me something different' I said

'Then why did you send me?' he asked and I glared at him

'Her dad is a famous drug lord in Spain, no one knows his whereabouts for some years now' he said

'Go on' I urged him to continue

'She once had a boyfriend, they broke up recently' he said

'How many boyfriends has she had?' I don't know why I asked but I wanted to know.

'Just one' he said and I nodded.

'Boss…' Hector called

'What?' I asked

'You are smiling' he stretched the sentence

'It's none of your business, that will be all you can leave' I said

'Boss, what about her mother's condition?' he asked me

'I almost forgot, fill me in' I said

'Mia's mom is sick and she needs to undergo a surgery that costs about five million, no money has been deposited yet' he said

'That was why she needed money' my thoughts echoed in the room

'However, Connor intends to deposit half the amount tomorrow' he said again

'Who is Connor?' I asked

'Her mother's boyfriend' he replied

'Ok. Get his contact for me, I need to speak with him' I ordered

'You like her, don't you?' Hector asked me

'Is this why I pay be you?' I teased him

'I'm just happy that you finally met someone and decided to move on' he said

'I didn't meet anyone Hector, and for the records I got over Selena' I defended myself

'Of course you did' he said and left.

After Hector left, I asked my driver to take me to the hospital where Mia's mother was.

I stayed in the car and asked my driver to make inquiries and get Connor for me.

'I'm Logan Adams' I stretched my hands towards Connor when I met him

'I know the name, but what do you want with me?' He said

'I'm Mia's boyfriend' I said

'For real?' He asked a little surprised

'Yeah' I said

'You are lucky to have her, she's a special girl' he told me. I felt so proud of myself for saying that, I felt like a proud boyfriend.

'She is' I said and nodded in agreement

'So why are you here?' He asked me

'Her mother is sick, I know she needs money for her surgery but she doesn't want my money, she's so stubborn. I can't just sit around and do nothing, I need to be there for my woman' I said with a sad face.

'You are such a good man Logan' he said to me

'Thank you sir, take this' I said

'What's that?' He asked me

'Complete money for her mother's surgery' I said

'I can't accept that, I'm very sure she doesn't know you are here and her mother is my woman, I need to pay for this not you' he told me

'What about this, you pay half and I pay half, that way we both get to take care of the women in our lives' I said

Did I just say the women in our lives?

'I can work with that' he said

'I'm guessing you don't want her to know' he said

'Yes sir, just tell her you took care of the bills' I told him

'Ok, thank you Logan' he said

'No, I should be the one thanking you for letting me do this' I will take my leave now' I told him

'Don't you want to see her?' He asked me and I was confused

'Her mother' he clarified my confusion

'I shouldn't' I said

'Come on, she's asleep. She won't even know you were here' he tried to convince me and it worked

'Ok, one look won't hurt. Are you sure it's okay though?' I asked again

'Stop overthinking and follow me' he ordered and I followed like a sheep

Mia's mother was beautiful, she slept peacefully.

'She looks like her daughter, just like and older version of Mia' I said and he chuckled

'Hey babe, who is this?' she suddenly woke up and asked

'Mia's boyfriend, he just wanted to see how you were doing' Connor answered for me

'Yes ma'am that's right' I said completely flustered

'Come here, let me take a look at you' she said while trying to sit up properly

I moved over to her bed

'Youre so handsome' she touched my cheeks and I had to smile

'Your smile is charming' she said

'Thank you ma'am' I smiled

'Treat her nice ok, she's all I have' she said to me and I felt it

'Yes ma'am, I will' I told her

'Promise?' she asked me

'Promise' I laughed

'We'll let you have some rest, I have work in the office' I told her

'Yes, you should work, my daughter should be well taken care of' she joked and I chuckled before leaving the hospital.

Saturday should have been a good day to rest after company work at the Adams enterprise but mom is hospitalised.

We are launching the new product on Monday, I just finished from work so I was rushing to get to the hospital.

My phone buzzed in my hand as I was waiting for a cab.

'Message from Logan' I said out loud.

I opened it and it read.

'Check your account balance, I sent you a pre-payment alongside some photos of Selena so that you know what she looks like. Please don't mess this up for me' I don't know if his last sentence was an order or a plea. I sighed.

'At least he sent me some money' I said to myself

'When do I start?' I sent

'I will tell you' he replied

I shoved my phone into my bag and went over to mum's room.

'Hi baby' she said and smiled and my face lit up immediately

'How are you feeling mum?' I asked her

'I'm fine honey, Connor has been a sweetheart' she smiled

'Thank you' I mouthed to him and he nodded

He got up from where he was seated and bent over to give Mumy a kiss.

'I will just talk to Mia outside' I heard him tell mum

I was glad he said so because I wanted to talk to him as well.

'About mom's hospital bills…..' I was going to tell him that I will deposit part payments but he didn't let me finish

'I took care of it' he said surprising me

'You what?' I asked him in total disbelief

'You heard me' he said

'But I have half the amount with me' I stuttered

He was quiet.

'Thank you, I'm going to pay you back I promise' I said

'In fact you can have some of the money you spent' I said again trying to search my bag for the money I brought with me

'Hey…..' he held my shoulders

'Relax, keep the money. You can use it for something else, besides I paid just for the surgery so you can use this for her medicines and many other things in the future' he coaxed me

'You love her that much? Or are just trying to impress me?' I asked with tears stained cheeks

'Both' he laughed and I joined him

'Thank you so much Connor' I hugged him and I felt him hesitate for a while but he hugged be back.

'You are welcome Mia' he said

We pulled away from the hug and went back inside to see mum.

'You boyfriend was here today to see your me, he's so handsome' Mother said

'Huh, what boyfriend?' I asked

'Yours' he said again

'No I broke up with him, I don't have a boyfriend anymore and you know that, why did he come here?' I told mom

'You broke up with Logan Adams?' Connor asked me

'Logan Adams?' I asked in shock

'Yes, isn't he your new boyfriend. You didn't even tell me honey' mum pouted

'It's not like that mom, we are just taking things slow, I didn't say yes yet' I lied

'Oh I see, but he already considers you his girlfriend. He's so fine baby and he's rich, you hit the jackpot this time from a bully boyfriend to a handsome and billionaire boyfriend' mum said

'Mum you should stop talking and rest' I told mum

'Ok' she said

'But you do agree with me that he's handsome' she said

'Mum' I scolded.

I was quiet and kept wondering why Logan came here without my knowledge.
