Chapter 13:Hi baby

Mia pov

I had prepared myself for work this morning but stopped and started thinking about him again.

I sat on my bed and brought out my old dairy where I wrote down my important contacts and dialled his number.

'Stop trying to get to him' my mother said

'Why, you think he's not coming back?' I asked her

'What if he's dead?' She asked me

'He's not dead, if he was then I would feel it. He is very much alive. He probably doesn't want to get to us because he's trying to keep us safe' I told her

'Trying to keep us safe?, we are always living in fear, don't you want a peace and quiet life sweetheart?' Mum asked me

'Your father brings nothing but trouble all the time, we have been living well since we moved here without him' she said

'How can you say that mum, he loves us immensely. He loves you' I told her

'Love is not always enough. I love your father but I love you more and it is my responsibility as you mother to keep you safe even if it means away from your father' she yelled.

'We have been moving for more than five years, we are always on the road because of him. Now that we have been able to have some quiet here for the last three years, don't you like it?' she asked me

She's right, I know. But dad is a good person, he loves us. He just got caught up in the mafia stuff and can't get out easily. It's a family thing, his father handed it down to him. He had no choice but to accept it.

I was born in Spain, in fact my dad is Spanish but my mom is American.

'Your dad's lifestyle had so much influence on you that it scared the shit out of me' she said

'How do you mean?' I asked my mother

'What do you mean how, look at the way you dress, you started smoking at 18' she lashed out

'Dad has nothing to do with the way I dress or why I started smoking, it was all my choice mum so stop blaming him' I said

'It was his fault whether you accept the facts or not. That is why I needed to leave with you' she said

'What is all this about mother' I asked her again

'There is something you need to know' she said calmly and I didn't like it

'The last time we left your dad to come here, no one threatened us that time. I told him I wanted you to leave and have a normal life just like many normal children' she said

'What !' I exclaimed

'And we talked, I asked him to stay away if he rely loved you' she said

'No you didn't mother, so this is all you?' I cried

'There's more' she said

'Yes, shoot me' I said

'We are separated and he said if I found someone new, I was free to move on' she added

'And you moved on' I said but she kept quiet

'Wait!, you did?' I asked in disbelief

'You are unbelievable, it was just so easy for you to leave dad. You took me away from him without asking my permission and now you are moving on, you are telling me love is not enough, did you even love him?' I asked her before taking my things and leaving the house.

Luckily I made it to work on time after the episode with mum that disrupted my mood.

'Everyone move to the conference room' Kevin, Logan's PA instructed and we all obeyed.

I kept looking if I could spot Logan but there was no sign of him, I hope he doesn't treat me with disdain anymore because we were cool last night.

'Get seated, it's not a company board meeting, this meeting concerns just you guys' he said and when he noticed us standing.

'The Adams enterprise has a task for you all' he said

'You are to group yourselves in pairs of two and come up with the best yet cheapest and most efficient way to advertise our new product in a short period of time' Kevin continued

'We can do that, when do you want us to do this?' Olivia asked with her annoying voice

'Tomorrow when you report to work' he said and whispers could be heard

'Isn't that too soon?' Another student asked

'It's too soon, yes. This is the sole purpose of this exercise,the pair that comes up with the best idea or pitch stands high chances of doing all their internships with us and why not even work with us after graduation' kevin said

This caused a commotion, everyone was excited. I mean who wouldn't want to work for the prestigious Adams Enterprise.

I moved to seat beside Henry.

'Will you be my partner?' I asked him

'You don't need to ask' he smiled

'No work for you today after the lunch break, use your time wisely. If you want to stay in the office premises to do the work, it's fine but if not you can retire home and work' Kevin said

'Did you know you have the highest chances of working here in the future' I asked Henry

'Definitely not' he said

'Yes you can. Your name is Henry and Boss Logan's father's name is Henry too' I laughed

'Oh you….stop teasing me' he laughed

'Should we go home or start thinking here?' I asked Henry

''Let's start here' he said and I nodded

As soon as it clocked time for lunch break, Henry and I started brainstorming for ideas and strategies.

'Why are you guys sitting so close to each other?' I heard a cold voice and shivered.

Henry and I were actually sitting very close to each other, his arm was even placed on my shoulder as we kept writing things down.

'Good afternoon sir' Henry stood and greeted Logan

He didn't respond, he gave Henry a cold stare instead.

'Don't do work in the company sitting like two lovers in the lovers garden' he said and I gasped in disbelief.

'Sorry sir, we have heard you' Henry apologised. He must really hate trouble, he keeps apologising all his life even in situations where he is not at fault.

What's with Logan acting so rude and cold this afternoon?.

When he left, Henry and I got back to work.

'Nothing here seems concrete enough for a competition' I sighed

'Let's keep trying' Henry said

Then i suddenly had an idea.

'Have you ever been to a restaurant?' I asked Henry

'Of course, who hasn't?' he said

'Some people haven't' I replied

'How many restaurants have you been to?' I asked Henry again

'Many, why Mia?' I asked her

'You can't be served in any restaurant if you don't place an order' I told Henry

'Yes we all know that' he said, clearly he doesn't get my point

'What enables you to order for food and drink in such places?' I asked him again

'Money' he said

'Aside money, what else?' I asked but he kept thinking.

'You need the menu' I told him

'Yes true, but what has that got to with his project?' He asked me

'I think we should display our new product on a food menu, this way a wider population will be able to see it. This city is big, with many restaurants' I told him

Henry thought for a while and then nodded his head in agreement

'You are so clever, I could never think of something as such' he said and laughed

'We get to try partnership ideas with the big restaurants. Hundreds of people come to eat at restaurants everyday, so we are targeting both the people coming too eat and the food vendors as well, two birds with one stone' i said

'This is good, I hope the people here see it' he said

'I hope so too' I replied

'We didn't need so much time, all thanks to your intelligent brain' Henry complimented me

'Oh please, we did this together' I said

'And you're being so modest about it too, such a humble girl' he faked a cry, causing me to laugh out loud.

'If this was a real job, you will get me fired today' I said

Logan

A girl with a masculine aura yet she's so soft and unique. I kept thinking about her on my way to work as the events of last night unfolded, Mia is great company.

I was eager to see her at work this morning even though I hadn't decided on how I'll react when I see her.

I got in to the office and I didn't even make it to my office when I spotted her but she was with someone sitting so close in an intimate manner.

I should have gone to my office and let them be. They are just students but something carried my feet to where they were and I scolded them.

I was in a bad mood now.

My phone rang in the pocket of my trousers, so I reached for it, the caller wasn't registered on my phone but I picked the calls anyways.

'Hello' I answered

'Hi baby, did you miss your cupcake?'
