Chapter 11: an old friend

I ran out of the supermarket and put the gun in the inside of my jacket. Wouldn't want to scare people off on the street... As I looked around me, I didn't see any other people who could be working for Lena, however I heard sirens approaching. The store owner must've called the cops on me.

I could just stay and explain myself, since I had been the one being threatened with a fucking gun pointed at my back, but Lena had too much influence in this city. It wouldn't surprise me if she had the police wrapped around her finger too. Even if the camera footage could prove I was innocent it would mean nothing. I figured the man had contacted Lena before approaching me, so more people would be here soon.

I scanned the area around the store. Right across the street I saw a dark alleyway. That would be the perfect place to hide for now. As soon as the cashier looked the other way, towards the man I had thrown into the rack, I took my chance to run across the street into the alleyway.

I hid behind two bins and took out Dinah's gadget. I made sure every security camera around this area was disabled. I also made sure to mess with the traffic lights to cause a traffic jam that would slow Lena's men and the police down.

Going back to the base wouldn't be safe for now, but I wasn't planning to go back anyways. I just needed an excuse to go outside, so Dinah wouldn't try to stop me. The last few days I had been contemplating it heavily, but this was my only option, this just confirmed it. I didn't tell anyone, since they'd never approve, but this was the only way.

I took out my phone to track the best route around possibly dangerous areas. I didn't want to come across any of Lena's men or police. I had to get out of here as quickly as possible, but Dinah's gadget took a bit longer than normal. Maybe it just seemed like that cause I was anxious, but I had to have patience since something could go wrong if I changed my location right now.

I glanced over the bins from time to time. The police hadn't arrived yet, but it worried me how the cashier was glancing over this way several times. The last time I looked there was a man talking to them.

Suddenly a dark van stopped in front of the alleyway. I took a nervous glance at the gadget and then back towards the van. For a moment it seemed like no one was getting out.

"There she is, behind the bins" I heard someone comment as the car doors opened slightly.

Suddenly they swung open, revealing Lena, Kara and a handful of guards. Luckily Kara was unable to use her powers in close proximity to me. At this point Lena scared me the most. She'd probably have some tricks up her sleeve.

"Y/n don't move!" Lena spoke. "We don't want to hurt you! As long as you stay where you are, nothing bad will happen to you."

She ordered the rest of her men to stay where they were, and slowly approached me. Shit, it didn't load quick enough. One wrong calculation could screw me over, so I had to buy myself some time.

"Stay back Lena! I don't know what you want, but I don't want anything to do with CADMUS anymore. Leave me alone."

"I am not my mother y/n, please wait."

I took a quick glance at my gadget while moving back at a pace that matched Lena's. Slow enough not to disrupt the calculation. I pushed the activate button and quickly sent a signal towards Dinah. She would know what I was doing, but I could imagine she wasn't too happy right now.

As soon as I saw y/n had sent me her location I knew something was wrong. I quickly opened the map and took a glance at her route. The Nightzone? She wouldn't try it would she? I already told her it was a ridiculous idea. Her dot showed up close to the supermarket, but for a few moments it stayed there. She could still change her mind.

As soon as her location started to change I panicked. If she went there, there would be no way to trace her anymore. None of us would be safe there, maybe except for her, if didn't cause any problems for y/n tho.... None of us were so stupid to go roam around in the secret underground district of national city. Not even supergirl.

"Holy shit... she's really going to do it. "

I tried to contact her trough the earpiece, but no success. She turned it off. At least we knew where she was, but we couldn't reach her. Lena's men were everywhere and now they knew our faces too. we'd have to wait for her to contact us back.

Knowing y/n, she wouldn't change her mind. I really hoped she wouldn't walk into a trap.

I turned around as fast as I could running towards the enormous fence right in front of me at the other end of the alley. There were multiple garbage bins leaning up against it so when I reached them, I leaped onto the trashcan's and reached for the top of the fence with my hands.

I pushed myself over and swung my legs towards the other side. As I reached the ground I didn't realise the broken bottles on the concrete, so I accidentally cut open my hand as I rolled out of the jump.

Luckily I was quick on my feet, cause a few moments later, Lena leaped over the fence smoothly, as if it was the easiest thing in the world. I didn't expect her to be a fucking parkour athlete...

I ran out onto the street, nearly being hit by a car, and slid over the roof of the car another one. It was strange how easy I could do this. I almost felt like a superhero.

We were running through one of the more rough parts of town, but I had the luck to know my way through it. Every leap, every jump every slide under a fence and every climb, Lena was right behind me. She had trained for things like this. Even though I had a slight advantage on speed, Lena could keep up with her perfect jumps slides.

Right now I had to make a big jump, from the rooftop towards the bridge on the other end. A normal human couldn't possibly do that, but I had so much adrenaline and anxiety rushing through me that I didn't think about it. It had to be possible.

Behind me Lena seemed to be slowing her pace, but I didn't stop. This was how I could shake her off. If I survived it.

"Don't jump y/n! You're going to break your neck! For fucks sake y/n! If you jump you'll die! I will stop following you! Just don't fucking jump!" Lena yelled.

It only made me run faster. I felt a strange sensation throughout my body the closer I ran towards it. As soon as I reached the edge of the building I kicked off and jumped. I felt relief as I landed on the other side. I looked back towards the building in complete shock. How the fuck did I manage to jump this far? It wasn't even a close jump.

I caught a glance of myself in a puddle close to me. My eyes were shining bright gold. However I didn't feel any pain. The only thing that was different was that I was a bit shaky, though it could've been because I was chased by Lena Luthor.

"I'm alive Lena! See you later!" I yelled back. She seemed to be both in shock and angry at herself. Guess she didn't know to which extent CADMUS had altered my abilities either. Before she could find a way to reach me I made my way to the last part of my route.

I walked over to the other side of the bridge, jumped onto another building, and climbed down. Right there was an entrance to the Nightzone, hidden in a pillar of the bridge. Personally I hadn't gone through that way. It wasn't an entrance that was used much, but that was why I chose it. I didn't want too many people seeing me.
